2 years ago |That’s good news, although I’m probably not going to buy one. Also, that’s just 4 days before the Photokina starts, I expect Sony to show more NEX lenses then.

According to sonystyle preorders.

2 years ago |It is a lens which would be very usefull for travel, so it’s a shame it isn’t available earlier.
That said, I will probably buy the 18-55mm zoom and save for this one later. This is probably a lucrative move for Sony, or it will make people hold out on the system.

2 years ago |I was so excited about the Nex. But the more I think about it the lack of control over video is just ridiculous. The whole point of video with these big sensors is so you can get some really nice shots with dof that are unobtainable with regular video cameras. And Sony just completely negated that ability with this camera. Why? When it comes to video and still cameras there are far better options out there. There was no need for Sony to cripple the video on this camera to this extent. I won’t be getting one of these Nex cameras- there are just too many drawbacks with them. Regrettably, the sensor is far more impressive than 4/3- but they’ve dumbed down this camera too much.

I feel for you, because I feel the same way! They are not interested in making an amazing camera that is good in all areas. They are interested in making the most money from their entire camera range over the next year. So they look at the upcoming nex-7 and the handycam styled video camcorder to draw most of the interest of those most interested in video. As a video professional I would be delighted if they would enable a few manual control features in the nex-5, as it is the perfect size and form factor to go ultra compact and creative. It would make an amazing camera, but their marketing division presumably would not allow it. They are not trying to give the consumer the best camera, but to give the consumer quite a good camera, but with enough limitations and frustrations so that they feel the motivation to upgrade soon. Too good a camera would mean that they would not upgrade. The nex cameras are not professional cameras, but they can be used by professionals!
