7 months ago |I’d just like to ask a question about the high ISO performance of the A77. Is it any good?

7 months ago |I think that TT11 is overrating the importance of the mirror in the high ISO performance. And the performance is fine. It is not staggering. You will not get crisp, noise-free images at 16.000 ISO. But up to 1600 you will have no problem if you know how to expose and can use Lightroom.
This is 1600 ISO: http://www.flickr.com/photos/adambindslev/6363000573/in/photostream/ – practically unproccessed RAW

7 months ago |exactly what i ment. good but not extraordinary
TT11
7 months ago |if this is a sarcastic question then => n1
if not then => it is good, but due to the mirror you are loosing light and will not be as good as a a D7000 or K5.
Considering that the nex 7 with the same sensor has a similar iso performance as Nex 5n you won’t get the performance fixed with a firmware update. NEVER!

7 months ago |Sorry everyone, I was being sarcastic. This high ISO argument/discussion has been done to death and I was trying to flush out any remaining comments.
I guess ultimately, that’s not my job so apologies.
p.s. I have used my A77 at up to ISO 1600 without any issues. Topaz NR works a treat and the images are usable up to at least 12″ x 18″ printed size. Even my LE test exposures I do for framing/compo done at ISO 12800 are usable at 6″ x 4″ printed size.

really looking forward to try out mfnr with hand held night panorama.

7 months ago |Alpha-numerique has shown that Dpreview noise tests contain big errors! DxO Labs have completely different results concerning noise of A77 and A55 then Dpreview. Any comments on that?

7 months ago |Just want to link to another gallery (not mine) – a football game shot at ISO 3200 and 5000 (!) – first part of the gallery (first 5 pages) shot with a A77 – second part shot with A900
The comparison is interesting – bust most of all it shows that the A77 can produce usable results at ISO 5000 …
Can we let it rest now: http://www.kevinlwilliams.net/Sports/Terry-vs-Forest-Hill-2011/19677505_Zj6HrK#1543797241_c5K2zVv

7 months ago |And if you look on techradar, the A77 does better than 7D and D300s on RAW signal to noise ratio and the dynamic range is clearly better, http://www.techradar.com/reviews/cameras-and-camcorders/cameras/digital-slrs-hybrids/sony-alpha-a77-1040798/review?artc_pg=5
The A77 is no high ISO killer, but untill ISO 1600 results are fine and you won’t see any difference with the ‘best in class’ D7000/A580.
Remember that 100% crops from 24MP are bigger (more zoomed in) than that of 16MP. So yes, in 100% view there is more noise. But if you compare equally sized images, you won’t see more noise.

7 months ago |BIt late to the pary here but that alphanumerique article is extremely interesting.
It basically shows that the DPreview interpretation falls into a very simple trap
of pixel peeping, but comparing whole images or equal sections of images,
as one should, the 24 MP and 16 MP sensors have identical low light performance.
All this “a55/D7000/K5 is better than A77″ is a fallacy based on a very simple
misunderstanding of how to interpret test results.
At least thats what I understood from the article.
shame on DPreview and several others
