Sony A900 discontinued (but no replacement in sight)

Short break from the NEX rumors!
Sony Hong Kong just added the mark “discontinued” to the Sony Alpha 900 camera.
We have no rumors about a possible repleacement.

3 years ago |The whole process of model replacement may become predictable once we see how long it takes for the 7xx to come to the market. So far, it looks like the time frame may be the same as when the 900 prototype was revealed in Jan, then the actual product release coming in Sept. This suggests the clock will start ticking once the prototype of the 9xx is shown.

3 years ago |If there able to out perform most DSLR’s with these small NEX cameras, that doesn’t mean it will replace larger cameras. All this means is if they are able to out perform current DSLR’s with a small interchangeable lens camera, who knows what is posible with a larger camera when they do not need to worry about making it small!! Everyone in this day in age is all about this replacing that, it really is quite funny. But one thing is for sure, I cant wait to see what the a900 replacement will be, would be awesome to use alpha lenses with the nex as well!

3 years ago |Oh come on, off course they do, it’s Sony, no one needs to learn them anything!, discontinued only means one thing, a new giant is on the way, and please don’t compare NEX to these cameras, it’s like comparing a midget to arnold schwarzenegger, just don’t gonna work.

3 years ago |I never would have expected the 900 to be discontinued today. So now that it’s been discontinued in Hong Kong other Sony stores will most likely be next in line to do so. However, the fact that we are left clueless as to when a replacement will be out is quite frustrating although not surprising for Alpha 700 users. We have to spend less time focusing on NEX cameras (I’m sure they’ll be great) and more on the “real” Sony DSLR lineup. I really wish Sony would release a replacement to the 900 by June.

3 years ago |@eerikoo i would love to agree with you (and on your second point i do, you can’t compare the two), but that logic when it comes to new Sony DSLRs simply doesn’t seem to work. Yeah they are quite young in the business, but if you take the only experience of discontinued models that currently exists, chances are there won’t be a replacement for another 2-3 years…

3 years ago |Or maybe it is just that the 900 is not selling well compared to the 850 . . . A firmware update for the 900 would be so nice though. . . Also glad to see that there is at least a mount to convert from A to E if that is route that is taken. . .

3 years ago |The nex 3 will not have AF available, for the a mount lenses via the lens adapter. Sony needs to develop a full frame slr like the nikon d 700 or canon 1d that does much better with noise in low light. Sony also needs to get that zeiss 50 1.4 in their line up in an auto focus that would get some converts right there. Finally as a former sony employee I can tell you first hand sony does not care about their customers or employees only profits.

2 years ago |So, is it wise to buy the A900 right now? or just play the waiting game and wait for the replacement?
I know, Sony announced the A950 at the CES convention in January. I cant find any info on the release dates.

7 months ago |If the a700 was released in 2007 and the replacement was released in 2011. Then the A900 was released in 2008,so that means it should be released next year in late 2012. I reckon they will call it the A99 and I have a strong feeling it will be Translcuent Mirror tech just like the A77. Also I think they might release a NEX-9, guessing it might be a FF mirrorless camera( Just imagine the pictures you’d get out of that!). I also have a feeling they will just make it a DSLR instead of a DSLT maybe it might be called the A950?
