Wait — I can’t use Minolta / alpha lenses on the Nex#? If true, that makes it useless for me. No way would I go buy a bunch of new lenses. Could have been super cool.

You are right, but making proprietary adapters will definitely increase the cost and minimize the availability of third-party accessories, you have to get the overpriced accessories only from Sony if you really need it. (Panasonic is also making a stupid move by adding “battery check” function to their cameras to force you to buy the original Panasonic batteries, which are far more expensive than any third-party batteries that are really safe to use.)
