Sony Amazon rankings (Sony NEX and A55 doing pretty well!)
Amazon just did a small “revolution” for their Bestseller rankings. They added a new category for digital cameras: “Compact System Cameras”. Let’s take a look on it. Sony NEX cameras are selling extremely well in Germany and UK (where they are on the very top). They are not doing really well in US but at least much better than Samsung cameras.
Check out the current rankings for yourself:
- Mirrorless camera ranking at Amazon US (Click here). Amazon makes a big mistake here and calls the section “Micro Four Thirds Digital Cameras“!
- Mirrorless camera ranking at Amazon Deutschland (Click here)

And what about the new Sony A33 and A55 cameras? How well are sales going at Amazon?
The Sony A55 is currently climbing the rankings and made it into the top 20 in US and France. Where the camera is selling extremely well is in Germany. Here you can find the translucent camera on the very top. In UK old Sony cameras are selling much better than the new ones.

Note: Amazon Japan and Amazon Canada
are mixing all type of cameras in their rankings. And you can’t find any Sony camera on top of their rankings.
Now Sony, after doing well with the NEX and SLT cameras please hurry up with the new semipro and pro camera release! Thanks

2 years ago |WRONG! WRONG! WRONG!
The amazon ranking is calculated automatically by a computer. That is, if the camera is not in the right category, it will never show in the ranking. Since most of Nex cameras are NOT listed in M4/3 category (on the US amazon), they will never show up on amazon M4/3 ranking.
Difference kits/colors of Nex are placed all over in different categorie on amazon.
Amazon ranking (at least the US amazon with Nex) is a joke.

It’s already been proven that it’s the SSS that’s causing the heat, and if you turn it off, you get as much video time as the comparable Canon or Nikons.
Now the heat with stills….is always going to be a problem with liveview cameras. The larger the sensor the more heat. Heck even the 1DMk3 had a notice that it will shut the camera down if the sensor gets too hot; the only difference is that most people weren’t using liveview that much as it has to stop live view to drop the mirror in order to autofocus…..

2 years ago |the problem is, that even with sss of , my sony a55, in low temperatures around 20 Celcius) still overheats in 4-6 minutes… thats unacceptable.

2 years ago |I believe they are making some serious money with these cameras. The NEX 3 & 5 & the A55, taken together, had 17.9% of the entire Japanese system camera narket in September. I don’t know what share the A33 had–it was below #10, which had a 3.6%. I would estimate conservatively, however, that it had 2.5% of the market, and that all of the other Sony system cameras taken together had 2.5%, which puts Sony’s September market share in Japan at 23.9%, conservatively. That’s four times Sony’s 2009 market share in Japan, which was its weakest market. Unless the D3100 & the D7000 sell like gangbusters, Sony may already be on the verge of overtaking Nikon in Japan. Canon, however, has surged ahead on the wings of the T2i.
I agree with ET that there is little or no validity to Amazon ratings.
