Sony London Distribution Centre burned down!
What’s happening in UK is a terrible story. I am not going to tell you what’s going on as I guess you already know everything. But there is one news regarding Sony. The Sony London Distribution Centre burned down: “Eyewitnesses described how they saw a gang of around 20 looters leaving the warehouse, in Solar Way, north-east Enfield, with electrical goods before the fire took hold” (Source: Mirror). The video on top shows the fire.

10 months ago |It’s sad, but that distribution centre is for media – DVDs, CDs and the like. It’s not, as far as I’m aware involved in any of the camera or electronics equipment distribution.

I just feel sorry for people jobs which they were spouse to be working today and now they found their work place have been wreaked by fire and those who lost everything on the burned houses.
These doesn’t look like a manifesto but a destruction of everything on their path.

10 months ago |Yep, agreed. It’s a bit shocking that such a big country cannot get police (or military if that’s what it takes) to calm down large-scale vandalism. Somehow from watching these relations I have an impression that police doesn’t exist there.
And they say that Brits are a calm people.
Don Cox
10 months ago |” I have an impression that police doesn’t exist there.”
They are too busy doing paperwork to patrol the streets.
“And they say that Brits are a calm people.”
The London mob has always been ready for a riot, throughout history. It was a constant threat in the Victorian era.

10 months ago |It’s like in the movie “gang of new-york”. Or better, the fall of Rome, great city, ineffective politicians, poor people with no future, from many races, country and different way of life, fighting for survive inside there tribe, defending their territories, like animals do. I’m not surprised by those events, there is the same few years ago here in France, for the same reason, a young killed while trying to escape from policemans. Politicians just talking on TV, some people arrested and set free few days ago (too young, no evidence, etc…), and life goes on, until the next riot.

10 months ago |The whole rioting & looting which is being carried out not just in London but in several cities and smaller towns in england is worrying & mindless.
DK has posted comments on his website photoclubalpha about the Sony warehouse but he also mentions he was due to attend a Sony press launch in London early next week!!! So has the A77 launch been brought forward???

10 months ago |It’s not everyone, it’s a large number of vandals (now criminals) organising riots through the use of any and all forms of communication.
Police are stretched beyond belief, they are trying to cover everywhere at once, and there may only be two spots in London where there is trouble. The media here is criticising the police, I assume something similar is happening in your country?
Please don’t think we British are like this, all the characteristics displayed by those partaking is totally un-British.
It may seem strange that more aggressive forms of policing have not been undertaken, however it appears from my perspective that the police are “locking” the vandals in areas they believe to be empty, allowing them to cause damage, but prevent the spread of it. This is of course fruitless in the sense that the fires will spread, the lack of discouragement may spur on the vandals to lengthen their “campaign” of looting and defecation of Britain.
It is a very sad time indeed, I for one am sorry for all the pain felt both directly and indirectly by all those affected, but I cannot apologise for the destructive behaviour of others, I trust our police service to bring those responsible to justice, and have the genuine perpetrators apologise to the entire nation and the world which they have stained.

10 months ago |It’s all terrible, and I fear we shall see it get much worse the world over as millions of working people discover that for one reason or another they are not included in prosperity and can’t see a path to the better life.
Jobs a getting even harder to get and governments around the world are broke and the social safety-net designed to help the old and sick is in question or already being dismantled everywhere and many empolyed and hardwork people in the west haven’t seen a rise in their standard of life in a generation.
It’s no excuse for stealing, looting and destroying property and the livelihood of others and it must be stopped and those involved punished, but sadly, I expect to see more of this lawlessness everywhere for many reasons in the years to come.
Now, back to the trivial pursuit of rumors and the discussion of Sony Alpha products.

10 months ago |Perhaps that “safety net” that is provided discourages people from working and stops the economy from growing,
it also teaches the people that they “deserve” instead that they have to “earn” the wealth of others,
finally there is the natural education&economic gap of the immigration, which is going to be the biggest European problem of this century, imho
Carl
10 months ago |Or perhaps not. Unemployment is a fundamental macroeconomic principle within competitive market economies, and during recessions especially, people willing and able to work will be unemployed. 100% employment is only possible in an uncompetitive economy, so if that’s you wish go and argue for it.
Demonising people because they’re poor and disadvantaged is no different from rioting and looting businesses. It’s taking the easy way out by laying blame for the world’s problems, rather than working towards a solution to to them. You’ll achieve nothing, change nothing, improve nothing, and just result in a world that much more bitter.
Frosti7
10 months ago |Carl, i can see your from europe, because instead of seing reality as it is, you would prefer to find a creative solution to the problem that cant have a creative solution, so you’d better stuck your head in the sand because you dont want to “demonish” anyone, so you and your freinds will work to finance the “safety net” so other people wont have to work,
the problem is that once people dont work sometimes they cant afford nice things such IPAD’s, so their way of getting it is looting, but hey, im just a crazy dude on the internet, you can stick your head back into the sand, i wont bother you further…
Carl
10 months ago |I’m not from Europe, actually. Sorry for not fitting your prejudices.
Seeing reality involves understanding the way markets work, not just automatically hating people; which itself is the ultimate act of not seeing reality.
I do wonder if you’d see the world differently if you had lost your job for no other reason than because someone else had acted irresponsibility in charge of an economy. Would you still vilify that dreaded “safety net”? Would you refuse food stamps as a matter of principle and just starve? I’d have a lot more respect for that argument if you’d be willing to put your [lack of] money where your mouth is, rather hide behind a comfortable layer of hypocrisy.
frosti7
10 months ago |im a hypocrit, poor with lack of money and job oh and i forgot, i hate people, anything else you want to add?
now to the point, i didnt say that there shouldnt be any safet net, there should, but not as wide as offered in england today (i guesse its already been lowered in the recent months)
there was an article online from a month or so ago about a UK individual that was vacationing somehwere in the world, he does not work, the money he recives from goverment goes to his ongoing vacation, and thats just one example of the wonders of the “safety net”,
i suggest you to stop hating people with different views then yourself, and stick to cameras, perhaps its your stronger side.
Carl
10 months ago |I’m not hating on anyone.
While I have a stable job now that has weathered the recession rather well, that hasn’t always been so. There have been times where I’ve struggled just putting food on my plate, and I take onus with any suggestion I was in that position because of laziness or lack of motivation. Life has its ups and downs, and having people kick you down rather than help you up when things go afoul is the last thing anyone needs.

10 months ago |Perhaps you don’t know what you are talking about. I just finished school to better my family. Can’t find a job in this great tea party economy. But soon when the company I have worked for closes I should not get unemployment because that would make me lazy? Instead I should go live on the street with my family? Ad our house to the foreclosure list? Not pay taxes? Which one do you think is going to be a bigger drag on the economy? What’s happening in London is tragic, but labeling people whom you know nothing about is a fallacy. Sorry, came on here to hear some A77 news.

Sony Corp said on Tuesday deliveries in Britain of compact discs and DVDs could be affected after its sole warehouse for content products in the country caught fire in north London. The insured three-storey, 20,000 square meter warehouse has been burning since late on Monday or early Tuesday in London’s Enfield neighborhood

What is going on in London and elsewhere in the UK is not riots – it is sheer looting and pillaging. One wonders why there are so many youth in the UK so disaffected that they revel in such vandalism.
David
10 months ago |I am from the UK and want to say that I am thoroughly embarrassed by all of this. It’s shocking that we have such scummy people here. Britain is a fantastic place – it is a free country and you are afforded every opportunity and handout that you could ever want. There is no excuse for this behaviour. Yet there are still shameless people who do not care about society or the consequences of their actions.
The police do appear soft, but we are a country who will not use violence against our own citizens. The calls to tear gas, bring in the army etc.. I understand why people say these things, but they aren’t the right answer. The police are handling this correctly – trying to protect law-abiding people first, then arresting those responsible.

If the rioters wanted to really mess with small, independent artists, they may have wiped many of them out for good!

10 months ago |The UK is going to be in a world of hurt as it comes to grip that for the first time in hundreds of years, it’s become a energy importer – as its North Sea operations decline and England has nothing to offer the rest of the world – plus the fact it’s a consumerist cradle-to-grave nanny-state – there’s bound to be much misery in the coming years. This is just the beginning of the end of the world they know it for England.

10 months ago |I truly am ashamed with and kind of disgusted of you Brits for not being able to deal with those rioters, arsonists and looters. It shows you are soft and weak and that doesn’t help you at all. If you are unable of dealing with pests in your own backyard, what will you do when the real shit hits the fan?
SonyA77
10 months ago |It’s easy for you to be a clueless armchair commentator. How would you have dealt with it?
What you and other commentators here fail to understand is that this is not a “riot” in the usual sense. This isn’t one mob of hundreds of people. If it was, the Police would have dealt with it like any other riot or march that you have never heard about.
These are actually huge numbers of small groups of teenagers hitting random shops, it is LOOTING not RIOTING. You can’t police every shop all the time, some will get damaged.
How do I know? I live there. So keep you misinformed comment to yourself.

10 months ago |If the Spanish could do it without violence, why can’t the rest of the world? This isn’t protesting, or even rioting. It’s pure pillaging and looting like Sahaja said. Scum.
