Sony NEX-5 is the third most sold camera in Japan (sales in April)

I am still waiting for the day where Canon and Nikon will give up their top position in favour of Sony. The good news is that at least in Japan the Sony NEX-5 is pretty close to the two big guys. 8,1% of all sold cameras are NEX-5 (Source: BCNranking). But the real surprise is that the mirrorless camera market share is well…going back! After reaching a top of 36,7% of all sold system cameras it’s now dropping down to 31%. So the DSLR vs Mirrorless battle is still continuing. A wonder how it will be in 1 year from now!
P.S.: You can see on Amazon that most cameras in the TOP 20 are compacts:

2 years ago |The fall from 36% to 31% is clear sign of people waiting for the NEX-c3 and NEX-7
Imagine what would sales figures be if Sony had 4 lens, think 5 or even 6

maybe an all time best seller for a DSLR

2 years ago |if SAR is true for nex7 and a77 price and spec. Sony will re-write the history very soon by 2011-2012. that are extremely agressive revolutionary products and selling prices that may attracts a lot of the end users in mid level pool. Yet to include those nex3c…
I am excited about the moment to come!

Nikon barely managed to make top-10 with D7000 (another over-1k $ SLR) – and that’s with all the good word it gets and all the “ohs” and “ahs” from press publishes. Sony doesn’t get this, and won’t as long as current press is made of Canikon users only. So IMO – not a chance for A77 to hit top-10 in Japan or US. Europe or some of other regions might be an other matter, but well… they don’t publish open statistics in a way japan does.

buzz
2 years ago |It isn’t a good result. After adding these ten positions up, the situation on the market is presenting this way:
Canon 22,9%
Nikon 22,6%
Olympus 8,3%
Sony 8,1%
Panasonic 5,5%

2 years ago |So M4/3 has 13,8% market share against 8,1% of NEX.
Looks like it doesn’t sell as good as NEX buyers always mention. And it doesn’t push m4/3 off the market.
