Sony NEX-5n reviews roundup

There are a couple of new NEX-5n news and reviews:
Outbackphoto (Click here) reviewed the NEX-5n: “The NEX-5N was a major surprise for us. Combined with the 18-200mm the NEX-5N is our close to ideal travel camera. We hope to be able to check the NEX-7 and see whether it would be an even better choice.”
Mike Kobal (Click here) tested the camera with the Canon 50mm f/1.8: “I have the Nex 7 on order, the only reason I am not getting the EVF for the 5N. I am very impressed with the sensor on the 5N, Sony has done a great job here and I can’t wait to get my Nex 7! Exciting times!”
Thisstonybrigde (Click here) writes: “So the question has to be asked: could you travel the world and make exhibition quality work with a little camera like this which takes up next to no room? I certainly think so. For me the clip-on viewfinder has made all the difference.”
The german website Photoscala (Click here) tested a couple of M-mount lenses on the NEX-5n.
Meanwhile it looks like the current Stocks of NEX-5n are shipping without the “Clicking” issue. And the new user reviews on Amzon US (Click here) are all extremely positive (all 5 star!). More user reviews are available at Amazon UK, Amazon DE and Amazon FR.

8 months ago |Does the nex 5n have manual exposure in video mode? that’s the one feature that’s missing on my nex 5
Logan
8 months ago |Joost, try adjusting the exposure after you have pressed the record button using the click wheel. This should work as my NEX-3 has exposure control. I believe the 5N can be fully manual like the NEX-7 in video mode.

8 months ago |Such a cool camera… the only thing that makes it better is the NexRemote iPhone app that controls the camera! look that up trust me!

Has anyone tried that already?
PS. Intervalometer too!

8 months ago |Sorry, but that is not a Canon EF 50mm f1.8 that Mike Kobal is using. He says that it is a C-mount (“The imgage below shows my current set up with the Computar c mount 50mm 1.8.”), and it looks like a CCTV lens.

8 months ago |Yup, found an online store that categorizes it as a CCTV lens.

8 months ago |What is the most interesting, is the use of RF lenses on Nex. Sony improved a lot their sensors to increase the quality of images with RF lenses. Let’s check the comparison between Zeiss ZM lenses on Nex-7 on http://thepicturedesk.blogspot.com/.
If you click on the “comments”, you will have access to the Hi-Rez pics. Compare the Sony Zeiss f:1,8/24mm and the Zeiss ZM 25mm. for example. Of course, the 24mm is a custom made lens for the Nex-7. Even if the extrem corners are a little softer on the ZM, ZM lenses remaind better than all the normal Sony lenses currently available for Nex.
Voigtlander lenses, especially best ones, like 21mm, known as a gem, can be a great choice for Nex.

8 months ago |Except for the Sony f:1,8/50mm and Macro f:3,5/30mm which are better (overall) than ZM f:1,5/50mm Sonnar and ZM f:2,8/28mm Biogon, for 1/3 of the price…
The 16mm pancake is really a p.o.c. Sony really needs to provide a real high end very wide angle lens ofr Nex.

8 months ago |Off topic, I know but we somehow managed to get in 5 A65 kits w/18-55 lenses in today, BEFORE the A77s arrived. Unexpected to say the least. Still, we’re down to three all ready and they haven’t been here but two hours. People love them.

8 months ago |Only +/-2/3 bracketing in AEB mode, we have no real idea why Sony did not allow more (e.g. +/- 2EV). The camera would be ideal for HDR because it can shoot at a very high frame rate.
I second that! This problem can easily be solved in firmware. Andrea, it deserves a prominent rank on the list of firmware wishes, if there is such a list
And since I own an old Nex-5, it should be in a 4.01 update as well…

8 months ago |I think my A700 was +/- 2/3 when I first got it, which was mostly useless for HDR. That was fixed with the firmware update so hopefully Sony can do that for this camera too.

8 months ago |“Meanwhile it looks like the current Stocks of NEX-5n are shipping without the Clicking issue”…..Woot x2 is this true?

7 months ago |Unfortunately, it isn`t…
Just received my 5N from Amazon Germany today, and it clicks like hell. The loose element inside the camera that causes the clicking seems to have an especially instable position when the camera is held exactly level, i.e. in 95% of all filming situations. In this position the slightest tilting of the camera will make this element move inside its retainer and produce a click.
Fortunately I am not doing much video work, but anyway I think I will soon send the camera in for repair.
