Sony NEX-7 and 50mm lens reviews!
Short review at DigitalJournalOfPhotography (Click here): “The NEX-7 is capable of delivering hugely detailed files unmatched by rivals using an APS-C sensor, though the standard kit lens isn’t a particularly strong performer. Sony desperately needs to widen the E-series range adding more high-quality primes such as the superb Sony Zeiss 24mm f/1.8 Sonnar T*.”
Shooting with the NEX-7 and SLR Magic 50 T0.95 Hyperprime and other ramblings…by Steve Huff (Click here).
Photoheadonline (Click here) tested the 50mm f/1.8 lens: “Shooting only a Close Up test on a lens usually doesn’t warrant a decision on whether a lens is worth buying or not, but in this case I feel very comfortable recommending this lens.”
The 50mm f/1.8 lens is still hard to find in USA stores. But easier to find in Europe and Asia. Click these search links to find the lens at Amazon, B&H, Adorama, J&R, eBay.
The NEX-7 search links are here: Amazon, B&H, Adorama, J&R, eBay. It reamins a hotseller in many countries: Amazon US (place 1), Amazon Germany (place 2), Amazon France (place 2) and “desaparecido” at Amazon UK (place ???).

2 years ago |I just got the 50mm lens a couple of days ago and am loving it. I have only had the time to do a quick test with the lens and am very pleased with the results. Some thoughts and sample photos here:

2 years ago |My new SEL50mm is making a strange continues hissing noise on my 7…I can hear this when I looking through the view finder or put the lens next to my ear ( with the camera turn on)..is this normal for this type of lens? All my other NEX lenses ( 16 , 18-55, 18-200 & 24 ) don’t have this problem.
BTW the lens is working fine and very sharp..

.
Was pretty lucky, walked into the store and bought their only one that just came in stock a minute before I walked in.

2 years ago |Steve Huff is a dick. If it isn’t Leica, he doesn’t like it as muchand will pick the flaws in order to have said gear a notch or two down. I take all his babbling as: “this cam is good, but I prefer that fat leica c@#k I polish daily with my summilux doing a smooth manual focus on my face as I finish the job. So, buy this cam if you can’t afford what I am given for free, its almost as good and if I could, i would marry leica if they ever came out of their conservative box of s#@t and really delivered innovation”

2 years ago |I wouldn’t go quite so far. But Steve Huff discredited himself IMHO when he showed this much enthusiasm for the Nikon V1 with a “Portrait” shot which just about any cheap compact camera would have been able to.
Well, he lives from the earnings of his web site.

2 years ago |On my blog site there IS one of those close lens tests, comparing the SEL50F18 with the SEL18-55 kit lens and a number of legacy Canon FD lenses:
http://luxorphotoart.blogspot.de/2012/04/pixel-peepers-delight-lens-test.html
In my opinion, these tests are somewhat helpful determining the strenghts and weaknesses of a lens compared to other “reference” lenses
There is another entry with shots showing the bokeh of the SEL50F18.
There is also a link for downloading a lens correction profile for Adobe Camera Raw (lightroom, Photoshop, PS Elements):
http://luxorphotoart.blogspot.de/2012/03/sony-sel50f18-lens-correction-profile.html
Maybe helpful for some readers here to decide whether this lens is for them.
