Finally Sony Taiwan (Click here) announced that a new A77 and A65 firmware will come in mid-October! The firmware will bring the following improvements:
1.support of HVL-MT24AM twin flash controls.

Buy another camera that fits your needs better if the a77 cannot satisfy your needs

8 months ago |Hmmmmm interesting to say the least. So A65 must be having the same issues? Last thing we all need is another immature beta release. I say: Sony take your time and do it as it should be done. As far as I am concerned, noise level is just fine. I always stay below 800. I don’t really get all the “noise” mantra.

even though there’s plenty of dealers offering A77/Nex7 to preorder in Finland, Pixmania is definitely not one. There’s never seen those on their pages

8 months ago |Eagerly waiting for the FW update and hopefully some fair previews after that. The latest example images seem excellent to me, also in high ISOs (no matter if A77 is winning or losing some one or half an ISO in comparisons…). And the whole package of properties is extremely attractive.

8 months ago |I spoke with the representative of Sony Benelux and according to him this news is about version 1.02 of the firmware, not 1.03. It would update the firmware the sold A77′s and A65′s from an earlier firmware version to 1.02.
I’m currently testing a sample for the Dutch market and on that one is also 1.02. Switching from lcd to evf is still sluggish. This is already the second sample, the first died on me…(that one was also 1.02).
monkeyfacemcbride

8 months ago |There are someone say that you can try this to ‘unlock’ your A77:
turn off camera, then hold down Menu+Movie+Playback buttons and turn on camera.
The symptom of ‘lock up’ is that: shoulder LCD displays F—, EFF blackout, no focus points, no level, LCD halt with some basic infos, unable to bring up menus, LCD keeps lit up even turn off camera.

If you want 12MP ISO performance go buy a 12MP camera. Otherwise learn some physics and be quiet.

Thank You dave,
I’m not happy about everything Sony has done with this product but I believe the following, and you might add this for the other whiners
1.If you can’t afford it buy something else that you can afford
2.If you want an OVF buy a camera that has one, many other cameras still do have them.
3.If you need better ISO noise performance try the Nikon D3s, its $5,200 USD and it’s a nice camera and some say that it has better ISO performance.
4.If your computer can’t handle the big file sizes generated by a 24mp camera change the settings on the camera to a lower resolution or buy a better computer and or a bigger hard drive is sounds like you need one.

8 months ago |u are a such stupid fanboy like dave.
I only say sony promised a new firmware for the new bionz sensor …. And there are not news about it.
I have to shut up on it just because you 2 are in love with sony?
If you need 24 mpx you should be better buy a full frame if sony can not handle a 24 mpx apsc sensor.
Cameras are made to take good photos….. If they produce worse photos for me it’s pointless.
But u prefer to pay sony just to be able to tell to your friends in a pub that your camera is bigger( but worse) than theirs
i like sony a77 alot but sony have to find a way to improove its performances
Dave Cox
8 months ago |Albert, I’m certainly not a fanboy but I am an ‘evidence reader’. The evidence published thus far completely refutes this high ISO noise claim. The first images were crap due to no ACR support.
Still, you carry on believing what you want and the rest of us will base our buying decision on the facts.
Finally, if you want a well reasoned debate on the issue stop trading petty personal insults.

8 months ago |A new owner in singapore who bought a77 from hk says that his camera comes shipped with firmware v1.03! Mentioned in clubsnap.com that the evf and control dials lag are better.
lhkjacky
8 months ago |Yes, You can update the firmware to V1.03 already in Hong Kong.
But you need to bring the camera to Sony CS HK (MK center)
Then they will update the FW for you.
( wait for about 30mins)
The dial response and the switching time between LCD and EVF has been improved.
But the start up time and shut down time still remain unchanged.

im so torn, should i get the a77 or nex 7. Both great cameras, ugh, what to do.

8 months ago |Personally I wouldn’t go only for NEX 7 over a77 due to the ergonomics. I would only use NEX 7 as a backup. However, if you are a frequent traveler, NEX 7 would fit better.
If you don’t care about all the fuss people are making, a77 should be good if you are just taking pictures for fun, NEX 7 for an even lighter fun.
Terryfried
8 months ago |The A77 has 2 BIG advantages. you get better kit lens(canon equivalent makes 60D more expensive than A77, Nikon equivalent takes D7000 to approx. 1/3 rd dearer than A77)and other alpha lenses without expensive adaptor. and Much overlooked is possibly best AF in world. All other Sony choices even nex-7 adaptor use old A55 AF. A77 is one of if not the fastest PD AFs available. 7D is similar with more cross sensors but they are optimised for F2.8 or faster lenses So even Canon 70-200/F4 a lens I would be with that camera is not at full AF speed. the Sony system AF and sensor are optimised for up to F5.6 (so 70300G is ok) and is of coarse micro adjustable AF to auto match different lenses.
bshott
8 months ago |3rd advantage. In body stabilization for lenses.
Terryfried
8 months ago |Sorry forgot to mention that, but its an important part of the whole alpha lens thing.
TypeZeiss
8 months ago |@acolyte I would use this for personal work.
@ terryfried I have mostly zeiss lenses and one G (the 70-200), I wouldn’t get body only. Here is the thing that weighs on me. Nex 7 would be a AMAZING street camera, small enough to go slightly unnoticed as opposed to large DSLR stuck up to your face, but then again you can shoot from the hip using the rear lcd for the a77. I am really leaning toward the a77 though because also I would need to get a range of lenses for the nex 7 and I don’t know that I feel like doing all that. BUT then again, the size is pretty ace. I can’t call it right now.

8 months ago |I have this choosing easy as having my old Minolta stuff… but there is several Sigma lenses and now I wonder if they are working with A77. In a brochure is told about Lens compatibility: Sony A-mount lenses, operation with Minolta/Konica Minolta lenses confirmed.
Hmmm… anybody knows more?

8 months ago |How about a last-moment return to rationality by including AF micro-adjustment into the A65 firmware update?
Terryfried
8 months ago |Micro adjustment is part of A77′s unique AF. So only likely to arrive on new FF cameras as I doubt it is a firmware upgradable.
Mike
8 months ago |Do you actually know what you are claiming or is this just speculation?
Terryfried
8 months ago |I said I doubt it. I am not sure as I don’t work for Sony but A77 does have different AF to all other Sony’s (probably all cameras) currently available. If it was just firmware update for micro adjustment I believe it would have happened on other cameras possibly on the A55. As nothing till the new hardware it’s hard to believe it would be possible to add it to every camera they make with a FW update.

8 months ago |Got my a77 for a few days, and here is my take on the bugs and first impression (using firmware 1.02 from HK)
It’s true that the dials are a little bit laggy compared to my a850
It’s true there is a slight lag between LCD and EVF… But if you are really preparing for an action shot, why would you not keep your eye At the EVF?
It’s true the camera freezes, my case was when I was trying to take video when the battery was low on power. No images was showing once the video button was pressed and frozen, needed to switch off the camera. It caused corrupted file which was recovered by a build in file recovery software after I changed the battery.
The image taken with both the 24-70 and 70-200mm looks good to me (not a pro) and AF was very responsive, and accurate. Faster than my A850. Image quality is comparable
EVF needs getting used to but very useful for tele shoots much better than A55 and acceptable to a pro OVF person like me.
I would say it is a good camera to have as an enthusiast, not sure about the pros (because I am not one) but it is definitely a camera I would keep alongside my A850 for tele and video! Definitely a more convincing choice compared to the a55
TypeZeiss
8 months ago |@Takomaki
When you said the EVF takes getting used to, how so? What difference did you notice over the OVF? Is it something that is just a preference issue or do you think one is better than the other? I have not used the a77 yet so im very curious to see what are the differences.
