Sony TidBits…
There are plenty of Sony related news I summed up into this post. I am also going to post a SonyAlphaRumors readers work roundup soon. If you have something good(!) to show drop me a message and link to your work at sonyalpharumors@gmail.com. Thanks!
Matthew Durr tested the Sony 35mm f/1.8 OSS E-mount lens: “The 35mm f/1.8 is a fantastic lens, despite its focusing limitations dependent on CDAF. The only “real” knacks against it—heavy vignetting and noticeable fringing wide-open—can easily be worked around depending on the situation, what settings you shoot at, and how much post-processing you are used to doing.”
Sony DT 55-300mm SAM f/4.5-5.6 Review at Photographic Central: “I do like a good bang for the buck, so an overall 8/10 rating for this lens which is very good considering a 10 would be a perfect performance in every aspect of a lens review. Comparatively the Tamron 70-300mm VC would get a 7.5/10 overall from me- but more on that at a later time perhaps!”
Sony NEX-6 terrain test at Focus Numerique (translation here).

Sony 10-18mm F4 OSS Wide Angle Lens (ThePhoBlographer).
Sony A99 review: Feature-packed, fast-shooting, full-frame DSLR proves it’s ready for the pros (Imaging Resource).
Sony A99, with Zeiss 24-70mm/2.8 and Sony G 35mm/f1.4 at Milleica.
HyperPrime CINE 35mm T0.95 at Domisljije.

4 months ago |Darn, this Sisson guy is boring. I just skipped through the last part to see what the giveaway consist of.
At least Kai tries to make a show out of it, even if one doesn’t agree with his opinions, he doesn’t need to give something away to get a few thousand likes. I like Kai’s work, I watch it to pass the time, even if I’m not interested in the gear; but this Sisson guy just puts one to sleep. Yawn!
Don’t get me wrong, it’s nice of him to offer a camera but in the end all he wants is some attention, “like this, like that…”, give me a break! Hope he doesn’t quit his day job.

4 months ago |Aw c’mon, give the guy a break. I watched the video and I learned a few things about the Wi-Fi on the camera, etc. Technically, he might want to make sure his narration is coming through both channels, because during part of the presentation I only heard his audio through my left channel.

4 months ago |Perhaps send him a message with suggestions how to improve his presentation. He’s trying to niche himself into the industry just like everyone else. Can’t fault him for that. Buzz him up and offer some constructive advise. You’ve got something to offer him and he may be very appreciative. I do tend to agree with your analysis.
Remember, the young kid reviewers of today, will become the old guard respected go to reviewers of tomorrow. Everyone gets their start somewhere.

4 months ago |Ready for the Pros means that it has a complete flash system, rather than one flash and a microphone… costing six million dollars each.
Dyxum users reporting adapted flashes falling off or not making full contact for TTL.
iISO has two smart radio slaves with full HSS/TTL from Pixel King and Odin. iISO has tons of 3rd party flashes available native.
This a99 is ready for pro videographer. Still silly that XLR adapter requires adapter, and can’t be directly mounted on it’s fancy new shoe. Not ready for pro stills photographer requiring a flash system. Why didn’t they just improve iISO shoe?
Go ahead and use your dumb Pocket Wizard on a99 without HSS or TTL. Smart triggers available still for a900… WITHOUT RIDICULOUS ADAPTERS FOR NATIVE FUNCTIONALITY!

4 months ago |EDIT: XLR doesn’t require adapter… But it requires a bracket. Why can’t it mount directly on new shoe that it was designed for?
I swear those designers were high.
“Let’s make a new shoe for the XLR and make it impossible to use without a bracket… And screw everyone using the 25 year iISO Alpha STANDARD at the same time”!
Michael
4 months ago |It requires a bracket because the box and microphone are so big they would be in your face if you mounted it directly on the camera.
If you want a more compact microphone with the new hotshoe buy the Sony ECM-XYST1M.

4 months ago |The Imaging Resource a99 review was great! I love reviews where a camera is actually put to good use. There are some really exceptional photos shown.
