UPDATE: Sony UK says the “Sony A850 is a previous model” !
Sony UK do mark the Sony A850 as a “PREVIOUS MODEL”. I checked oder sonystyle stores and couldn’t find similar results. Don’t know if that is just a BIG mistake. We from SonyAlphaRumors didn’t get any rumor about a Photokina FF introduction. But we really don’t know everything from Sony!
UPDATE: J. from UK phoned Sony: “They told me that both models are discontinued (previous model). They have NO A850s in their warehouse and 2 A900s left in the UK. So does this mean that Sony really are withdrawing from the FF frame market or does it mean that they are going to reveal something unexpected between now and Photokina?”
P.S.: All important stores do have the A850 in Stock. I found a new Sony Alpha 850 $55 price drop on Amazon

2 years ago |If they announce a replacement for this at Photokina- that will be something else. Sony has really be on a tear lately. The Nex cameras making waves, then the Nex camcorder, then the A55- and now this. Well, maybe this. I wanna see what kind of video the replacement will be capable of. With a full frame sensor it should be impressive. I would think Sony is certain to include manual controls over video with this one.

Their track record of behaving sensibly is not good. :/

Just see this rumor from December 2009 – http://www.sonyalpharumors.com/sr4-now-even-sony-says-the-a700-is-a-previous-model/
and Sony hasn’t released an A700 replacement yet.

2 years ago |If Sony really does discontinue this camera how low do you think the price will go before it’s no longer available. I’m guessing there are not a ton of 850 bodies out there waiting to be sold so I doubt it will go too low.

2 years ago |that would be sooo hot. the camera is after all a 2 yrs old design. i would be shocked if sony didn’t have some surprise for the big show in sept. announcing everything prior is very anticlimactic.

2 years ago |Hopeful I am!
It would be odd for Sony to unleash a FF body at photokina especially as it would be yet another body before the A7xx release. The A700 is more desperately in need of refreshment, however I would kill for a new FF personally.
I’m somewhat doubtful about this meaning a new FF is imminent, simply because I guess it would have been leaked here along with all the other bodies.

2 years ago |I also agree we can’t be sure. There are too many already we’re looking forward to in Photokina, and Sony wouldn’t want to rush on their development. Looking at A55 they seem to put quite a bit of development on it.
Just wait when the reporters throw questions at them, but I think we will have to take these rumors with a grain of salt, especially on top of the current verified rumors.
There’s only so big of a plate. You can’t fit it all there.

2 years ago |Didn’t the Hong Kong website list the alpha 900 as a previous model late last year? Has it come true? The 850 is only a year old – I don’t think they’d be putting it out to pasture after such a short run.

2 years ago |My guess is that Sony is going to release the 7xx as a full frame camera with the old 24mp sensor and video, and that the new 9xx is going to be a 32mp with video. We might even see a A77, I think I’d go for that looking at the specs of the A55 and what could be improved.

2 years ago |Honestly, it scares me. We all know what happened to the A700 and the same thing seems to be happening to the A900/A850, namely a given market segment will be left EMPTY. I’m gutted…
Brett
2 years ago |I wondering if they may be going to introduce the A800. 18mp FF, ISO 25600………. $1,500, would probably kill the A850 anyway. Just speculating.

2 years ago |Currently 14-16Mpix APS-C sensors (NEX, A55) pixel density is equivalent to 32-36Mpix on FF. Mentioned cameras ISO performance is not bad et all. I couldn’t see any reason to not release 32Mpix FF finally. I suppose A7xx will be 18Mpix (similar Canon 7D) which is 40Mpix on FF. Of course there always is processor question. For >30Mpix processor Sony needs new Bionz more than two times faster than previous generation. Second question is about USB3 and faster CF cards (or vice versa), fortunately 60Mb/s cards is already available unfortunately for astronomical prices.
18Mpix on FF is old dream anyway.

2 years ago |2 CF cards at RAID 0? It’d be perfect solution for such a high MPx camera. (and: yes, it is possible to connect two CF cards at RAID0, my friend did that in home conditions, using self-programmed controller)

2 years ago |Seems to be a mistake on Sony UK website. They also consider the A580 as a pro camera, which is not the case. Also preorder of 580 is not possible yet as shipment is expected in 1Q2011. I guess someony switched the digits A850 to A580 in a database the generated the Sony homepage automatically.
No other Sony country website has this mistake and the A850 is a current available pro camera! The A580 is not available yet.

2 years ago |I think it’s just a mistake they made.
I don’t think we gonna see new FF body at Photokina.
Sure, I agree that there will be some surprise for the trade show but I think that it’ll be… new lenses. Admin gave us rumor about “many new lenses” comming, yet we’ve got only 3 (including Zeiss predicted in the same rumor) – I hardly consider it as “many”. 500mm awaits, probably also the rumored new kit lenses. Someone also rumored 16-50mm f/2.8 SAM and the 10-20mm G to replace Sony DT 11-18mm (check the rumor from 10 August 2010, SR3 though) Either way – new lenses would be a VERY good thing to come
Cause Sony stays behind Canikon and yet they are who release more lenses per year ~_~ this way Sony will never climb to their level >_>.
If we gonna see the FF body than I’m with the people who would like to see some low-MPx reporter-style body. Damn fast, and with damn good high ISO. Lenses good for such camera are already there, only thing missing is a body.

2 years ago |Maybe the rumour of Sony getting out of FF is true, but why not squash the rumour by introducing a FF version of the A55 at Photokina:)

2 years ago |What great cameras the 850 + 900 were, apart from the build – but still, I shall miss both of them and if they are actually replaced with hd movie option – it would cap a great run by sony. If not, it would be an admission that ff 24mp is actually a bit annoying to constantly have to transfer huge amounts of data all the time.

2 years ago |Just been checking a number of Sony websites. I don’t see the 850 on the Hong Kong or Japanese sites, and on the Australian site it is listed as “limited stock”
Definitely looking like it’s days are numbered.
