(SR4) Mirrorless cameras on late May

During the last days we received many mails from people saying the mirrorless cameras will be announced on April 18. The source of the rumor is the famous “Gustav” (or “jsvogel”) which is a known Dyxum user. But according to our sources the camera will be announced on late May! We don’t have the exact date but we have been told that the camera will be available in stores in June. During the past weeks we have been working very silent to collect reliable informations. There will be two mirrorless cameras called NEX!

2 years ago |I certainly hope this is true. I am waiting for this camera to take with me on my summer vacation. Let’s hope it is available in shops before july/august.

2 years ago |Soooooo freaking ugly. I cannot see why everyone is digging the style of these. Compared to the competition offerings they look hideous. Like a point and shoot with a super tacky/cheap looking grip. They do not have the same finesse. Other companies seem to have a very utilitarian or retro look which is much more pleasing to my own eyes. But just my 2 cents.

2 years ago |I agree Perry. Not only are the cameras ugly but the ergonomics look terrible. Still, I’m interested to see what the price will be and how they perform.

2 years ago |They’ve got a 1970s aesthetic, which may not be popular right now, but could be popular in a few months, who knows.
If they’d put some horizontal lines on the front of the grip, it might look less ugly. But I suppose they figure one’s hands cover almost the entire camera anyway.

2 years ago |@Perry: It’s sleek, almost like a robotic eye and it looks different from most other cameras. It’s not another black box with a lot of buttons on it with a big lens.
Even if it is like a point and shoot with more advanced functions that’s great with me. All the current 4/3 system cameras are missing something for me. The (rumoured) specs on this one just look very promising.

2 years ago |I’ve seen the mockups live – you may check it out here: http://alphacorner.eu/index.php/inne/targi-film-video-foto-2010 – and what I can say is that they look much better than on photos. They are small, have impressive sensor size (my Nikon-user friend was like: “WOW” when he saw APS-C inside), and, looking from video shown in background, controls are very simple to use yet give all the freedom DSLR user might want. Great thing for some trips where you cannot take big DSLR.

2 years ago |AK — “these are mockups. the actual product will look different with different finish” — I haven’t seen any mockups that ended up different when the final camera came out, lately. But I’m willing to be surprised. If they are making different finishes, I hope they make a white one.
