UPDATE: SonyAlphaRumors readers question
Good Morning!
During the past weeks I have been able to contact many sources and I have some interesting “rumor” about the Sony mirrorless cameras. But before posting something about it I have a question for you.
I noticed that many websites are taking our rumors and reposting them without linking to us. An example? We were the first to tell you about the Sony Pellix camera and we were the first tell you about the Sony NEX mirrorless cameras. If you search for “Sony NEX” in google you can find many websites talking about them the days after we posted the rumor. And most of them do not link to us. I am not angry with anybody but it is quite frustrating to know that I worked hard to find the rumors and than nobody knows that SonyAlphaRumors exist because almost everyone is copying our “news”.
So I looked for a way to make everyone clear that we are the rumor main source.
My idea is to repeat the rumors countdown I made in November (when I posted the Sony pellix rumor). I could tell you that on a specific day one a specific time I will disclose the rumor. This would help to create an attention on that website. I know some of you would not like that sort of “marketing tecnique” that’s why I want to know your opinion first. I would do 3-4 countdown “actions” and than stop.
If you have better ideas let me know.
Many Thanks!
Andrea
UPDATE: Thanks for your help. I have choosen to not use the countdown. I will post the rumors now! I don’t want 45% of my readers to become angry
At least I hope some of the guys who are copying me understood the message. Thanks!
P.S.: by end of May SonyAlphaRumors will have a completely new website and new social features (group community and forum).

April 15, 2010 |Hi,
I really like your sympathic writing style and wish you more success with your website.
But I voted ‘no’ because I use your website mainly as an information hub for information that are distributed and buried in many other forums. Such as ‘Gustav’s news’ for example.
Therefore I would like to read the news as soon as possible since they were usually old news otherwise.

April 15, 2010 |I understand and sympathize with your frustration. However, I would be very irritated if you did something like a countdown, and make people wait for news that they may have already waited on for days, weeks, or even months. Add at the end of the article or update a note requesting attribution or a link back on any rebroadcast or posting on another site. For example I found this site through a link on dpreview.

April 15, 2010 |We live in a world of sharing informations and internet is the main tool for that. I think if you put a countdown, you will not solve the problem and you will restrain information, and that would be mournful.

April 15, 2010 |I know your difficulty and I was once a blog writers of some kinds of special news. In order to protect some of your asset, you may watermark some of the photos and artworks of your site. However, the most important thing is to keep working hard on some rumored news, there will still be someone who is willing to refer to your site when posting on their own blog, and people will get to your website when they wants some undiscovered news. Remember, sometimes we also grab rumors from other sites. The Internet is free and there are too much information than necessary to digest. Your site will be a success if you have done something that are making contribution. Don’t care too much, just work hard is more important.

April 15, 2010 |how come?
this is either vanity or you make money from it. most probably both.
getting money from this makes you biased and untrustworthy.
I just wonder if gossip between neighbour should be branded or sold.
or maybe you just want people to invite you for a quick gossip around a coffee.
if you have these kind of problems maybe you should just give up.

April 15, 2010 |You have presented a real challenge. and by the way, trying to make money from all your hard work certainly does NOT make you biased or untrustworthy in anyway! You should see compensation for your hard work, and you bring something much needed to all of us who visit the site!
I believe if you continue to bring accurate news in an intelligent way, you will out grow the lazy competition that’s simply stealing your hard work. We the reader can tell the difference! And we will be loyal to you, and forward that loyalty to new readers as long as you continue to do great work.
Thanks for all your hard work!

April 15, 2010 |Don’t worry that they are “copying” you, Andrea. It means that they are having more and more respect for you. Just keep working to make it better, and you will have nothing to worry about.

Sounds like you are already doing a ‘countdown’, how about you stop whining like a schoolgirl and post this ‘interesting’ rumor and let us decide how interesting it is.

April 15, 2010 |Hi James! It seems that you are whining because you have no patience

April 16, 2010 |What’s the sense of countdown for rumors at all? The only benefit of rumor is it is before-the-fact notion. In other case what’s is the interest of the community that one guy has known all that for some time? And on the other hand – think on the rumors that have been postponed, long-awaited with many people and became busted in the end. The rumors are only the rumors – there are not the facts.

April 16, 2010 |Hi.
First of all I just have to say thank you and declare my respect for your work with this site.
Regarding the issue with the copy-cats, I am not sure, but I believe that you have the right to be mentioned as source to the article/rumor/story.
But that’s the way the internet works, anyone can find anything, copy it and post it, without telling where they got the story from.
So i think that you should continue the way you have run the site so far, and then by time you will get the acknowledgement that you deserve and other sites will link to your site as source.
Keep it up!!
