(SR1) Crazy rumor: Speculation of an Apple Acquisition!

Let’s post a crazy rumor: Reuters reports that Sony Corp’s stock rose nearly 3 percent on Tuesday due to reports of a possible Apple acquisition of Sony! Sony spokeswoman Sue Tanaka said: “We cannot comment on rumors or speculation.” But analysts who follow technology downplayed the likelihood that Apple would chase Sony — or any other major acquisition.
Imagine a Sony Alpha camera designed by Apple! Just dreaming, it’s not going to happen

2 years ago |Already debunked.
Seems to have originated with a throwaway remark, pie-in-the-sky speculation, by one “Eric Savitz” in an article on Barron’s website.
“… I noted comments from CEO Steve Jobs last week suggesting that the company could use its cash to make a strategic acquisition or two; in the piece I noted that the company could do something aggressive, like bidding for Adobe (ADBE), Sony or even Disney (DIS). “

2 years ago |NOOOOOOO, please, NOT!
I don’t want
- white DSLR’s
- an Apple logo on my camera
- pay a lot of money for that logo
- to support Apple in any way
- use iTunes to upload my photo’s to my computer
- a fixed battery
- pay an extraordinary amount of money for accessories
- have a white flash
- pay for updates
etc
etc
If so,
I can sell my equipment for biblicly loads of money…

2 years ago |This is such a dumb rumor… does anyone use their common sense anymore? Apple can’t acquire another company that is worth almost 3 times as much.
Apple assets = 47 billion
Sony assets = 140 billion
OMG
2 years ago |Let me make this clear. I hate Apple. They wraps lies with a technique called marekting to make them sound cool. Now, back to the point.
I gotta tell you that what you are saying is just wrong.
How would you calculate so called total assets? Apple got more than 50 billions in cash on hand without debts. Do you see my point?
And again, you do not need 100% share of a public company to control it.

2 years ago |On the other hand, Porsche almost swallowed up Volkwswagon a few years ago even though VW is worth nearly 10x more on the stock market than Porsche.
A funny true story that backfired. Porsche ran out of time, couldn’t pay up, and VW ended up buying them.

Porsche wanted to gather Shares.
There were not enough available on the free market.
So they ordered many Options.
Common technique is to sell them later and gain win because of lowered stock quotation.
But Porsche instead wanted to hold the Option which means they had to get the shares for them.
Now every broker that sold Options to Porsche run around like crazy to gather together the Shares.
That made the VW quotation rise way over logical (and predictable) value.
And btw. Porsche had never gone to change VW’s market strategy.
he main goal was to lower Co2 balance of the whole company.
To affect taxes and Emissions trading.
Of cause a pure sports car company does not look too good in this.

2 years ago |The new Apple iAlpha 500 has a 4.2 inch, LED-backlit IPS display with a remarkably precise Multi-Touch screen and one button. You will find thousands of apps on the App Store specifically designed for the iAlpha including Apps for changing aperture or shutter speed if you want. But the iApple is so smart, it can do all the thinking for you.
Thanks to advances in Digital Zoom technology, Apple can finally do away with the need for interchangeable lenses. The iAlpha comes with 16, 32, or 64 GB of storage built in (and no card slot) so you never have to worry about changing memory cards again. Built in WiFi allows you can surf the web and upload your photos directly from the camera to your favorite websites. The 3G model allows you to connect from virtually anywhere. 3G service sold separately. Connection quality or speed not guaranteed. Excessive roaming charges apply.

Looking forward to my new iShot (sounds less stupid than iPad and not offensive to 50% of population)

2 years ago |Well in fact, Apple is in the top-2 biggest companies in the US based on market capitalization (share price · number of shares.) Its continuous success contributes to a growing chest of gold, and asked what to do with all the money (share holders want their piece), Steve Jobs in February answered that they should think big (it is speculated that he thought of acquisitions).
Apple passed Microsoft in May, and is now the biggest tech company in the world – makes it hard to buy Apple.
Just to make things clear. Sony is almost 10 times smaller than Apple (http://www.wolframalpha.com/input/?i=apple+market+cap+%2F+sony+market+cap). Exxon-Mobil is bigger but Apple will grow bigger within this year’s end.
Personally I think it would be an ingenious marriage. They both build innovative and high quality products and it would a positive asset for taking on Canon and Nikon (for one), but also integrating computers in the living room.

2 years ago |Nothing wrong in looking at stocks numbers.
But Apple is small in employees and management size compared to Sony.
They have only has a few segments (Mac Hardware, Software, iPhone/iPod/iPad).
With a few products in each.
It’s easy for them to be innovative and to have cross segment interactions.
Sony had huge problems in the last ten years to get their divisions to work together more.
How should a company like Apple step in and change this?
Big changes are way to risky and a failure could burn down their money reserves over night.
So the best option would be to let Sony run as they are any make small changes over many many years.
I doubt Apple is the company for that.
Not to mention the big language barrier.
Makes it uncommon for US and Japanese companies to merger.

However I don’t think so. Sony make PC’s. I can’t see Apple owning any company that makes PC’s with Windows.
Never mind all the other similarities and competing products. it would be just to wierd.

2 years ago |I used to work for sony belive me we do want this. Sony engineers are great but their managemnt is border line criminal. I have witnessed straight theft, sexual misconduct, and assault. Management does nothing about it and is usually in on it. Then they just hire people with no electronics experience at all. There was a VP that came from the GAP. He was more concerned with what employees were wearing rather than sales performance. Invested thousands on new uniforms but yet stock sank to 15.00 per share a record low. That money should of went to R and D. I would much rather have Jobs at the helm. Plus I am a share holder and wouldn’t mind having shares worht 300 a pop. Also you do know Mitsubishi is the parent of Nikon and apparently it just looses money hand over fist for them. Maybe they would sell to Sony we alreafy make the sensors.

2 years ago |I don’t know if this will ever go through but if it would I would be very happy. I don’t know why people have this cloud of negativity that surrounds Apple. Firstly, I’ll start off by saying that for technology purposes, I only use Sony and Apple products. If Apple were to acquire Sony, it would be highly unlikely that they themselves would start developing Alpha cameras or any cameras for that sake. Sony’s design engineers along with those kept from the Konica Minolta takeover in 2005 would remain in charge of camera development since Apple simply does not have the expertise in the camera sector i.e. the reason why they paid SONY to develop a sensor for the iPhone’s camera. I know that in the past few years, Apple has made a large push for the mainstream and mobile market but they also offer high quality products such as the Mac Pro, a professional workstation which I use for all my CS5 work. So people like “IkMattie” are being ignorant to say the least when they say you need iTunes to import pictures onto your Mac. My passion for SONY products is equally as great as that for Apple products.
Both companies offer high quality products to the consumer. If they were to merge they would complement each other well since they both have similar business philosophies. They are both extremely innovative companies. With joint forces, I’m sure great products would enter the market. I simply don’t understand why people are so negative towards Apple. I’ll leave you with this “what shall be, shall be”. Until then we can only speculate, bash or wait hopefully. Just remember to base your opinions on fact and not lies.

2 years ago |You better hope it’s not happening, as Apple (if buying the whole of Sony — a ridiculous idea) wouldn’t keep the camera division for a week, and I doubt it can stand by its own any time soon.
Truth is that Sony, with its byzantinian organization, multitude of divisions and one-model-for-every-person lineup is the complete antithesis of Apple. Apple is huge because they do a small amount of things really well and can capitalize on this. The only similarities are that Sony, at times, have employed gifted industrial designers, and that both companies have a knack for consumer lock-in and ridiculous forced formats.
If Apple have too much money, they will probably go for a content producer.
