(SR2) A77 with directional side-hinged LCD (a new design not yet seen before)???

A new source sent me lots of info about the upcoming new Sony products. I am trying to double-check the rumors with other sources. But meanwhile I am going to post an info I heard for the very first time with a low SR2 rating (unconfirmed rumors from unknown source). So take that with a grain of salt!
The source confirmed the A77 is coming in July and said it will be available with the new 16-50/2.8 kit lens too. He also said the “it has directional side-hinged LCD” and that it is a “new design not yet seen before“. The Sony A55 LCD hangs at the bottom-center of the camera.
Hope my sources can confirm or deny that soon. Thanks to the anonymous sender and all the sources that can help me on that!
Reminder (SR = Sonyrumor):
SR1=probably fake rumor
SR2=rumor from unknown sources
SR3=50% chance it is correct
SR4=rumor from known sources
SR5=almost certainly correct!

12 months ago |No, but then you need to have a separate battery with that screen and a wi-fi module. And you’ll often need both hands to operate the camera. And what about speed? Etc.
There are so many implications of a such a design, that just making a hinge is a much simpler solution.

12 months ago |I’ve always loved Sony’s flip-screen live view because of the low-to-the-ground shots it makes so easy. If this side hinge is true, could it mean a screen that can be flipped up in portrait mode as well, I wonder?
Ivars
12 months ago |that would be very welcome design.
Richard
12 months ago |I’m not really keen on hinged screens, unless they’re as small as a regular screen, otherwise they just end up being ‘clunky’ and not really doing anything different. A good quality AMOLED screen like on Samsung products, unhinged, would be my preference.

12 months ago |How come no photo of this model where leaked by people/photographers who are testing this camera? it is about at least 3 months, if not more, on the “testing route” by pro “sony photographers” – and yet not a single photo of the “A77″ model being tested are to found anyplace – is sony secirity is that high?or all photographers testing it this days are that scared to leak some real non catalog pictures of this model? or maybe we will not see this model in real until the begining of 2012?

12 months ago |…and the World’s media doesn’t care about a new camera, so nobody is interested in getting the pre-production shots.
If it had an Apple logo on it you can be sure that there would be plenty of leaked images though.

12 months ago |Who cares about A77 it is likely the last of this kind. NEX-7 is the future. I hope the 16-50/2.8 gets NEX variant …though 24/2.8 or 28/2.8 wuold be much more welcome
Ivars
12 months ago |what are your arguments?
john
12 months ago |Nex maybe the future but until there are at least 300+ lenses like those that can currently autofocus on the A-mount i don’t think the E-mount will kill Alpha.
SonyA77
12 months ago |If you were to say mirror-less technology, yes. But not the design.
It’s all about ergonomics. NEX doesn’t have enough dedicated buttons or a large grip. You can’t fit a vertical grip to a NEX and putting a heavy lens of the front of a NEX kills the balance.
There are lots of reasons to using a dSLR over a NEX.
Irfan
12 months ago |“NEX doesn’t have enough dedicated buttons”
What nonsense. “If you were to say Nex-5 and Nex-3, yes.” There is NEX FS100 with more buttons than any Alpha has ever seen combined.
“Nex” is a generic name for the E-mount. It’s not a specific camera.

12 months ago |I like NEX concept, but I see usefulness of such concept only with small, pancake, prime standard (35-50mm) lens. Anything other is just extension of NEX camcorder line for PS users.
Anyway for tele lenses NEX never will be ergonomic and balanced.
SonyA77
12 months ago |It was in response to a post about NEX-7, so is in the context of the NEX series of stills cameras.
I am perfectly aware that NEX covers more than NEX 3 & 5. Please refrain from taking posts out of context and using language such as “nonsense” where it doesn’t apply.

12 months ago |i was at a photography show early this month, where sony shows two demo of the A77, 1 transparent, 1 solid black colour. They layout of the LCD, buttons, buttons around the mount, buttons around the top LCD screen, flash, mic, etc are different between the two.
wonder which one we will see.
yeah, i want to see sameple pics taken from this camera, wonder if it would rival some early FF like Canon 5D1
Maveric19
12 months ago |FMJ, did you get any photos?
Steve
12 months ago |Yes, I too would just love to hear the argument from Kiril and others that sound like him from an image quality and photographic point of view.
I wonder if he believes that the professionals using the Phase One and Hasselblad medium format cameras or us that shoot with FF DSLR are fools and could produce better images using the NEX platform.
What I like the NEX for is getting shots that I could not get with my BIG iron full frame and BIG f/2.8 lens.
Right now, I use a Canon G12 for this, but the NEX could well be better for me for this.
Very helpful

12 months ago |no nex will ever replace semi-pro/pro body simply because the superior ergonomic these bodies provide.
how the hell am I supposed to work for 5-6 hours with 70-400mm lens on any nex?!
john
12 months ago |They can make a NEX body as big as a house with more dedicated buttons than megapixels , hot shoe giant screen EVF and the E-mount still wont replace the A-mount UNTIL it has a lens (autofocus) lineup equal to or better than the A-mount=300+
300 comes from Sony/Minolta/Sigma/Tamron/Tokina etc

12 months ago |i guess this is what the NEX-7 is supposed to adress
..btw. NEX could be anything, i guess the only thing NEX cams will keep in common is the E-mount and the mirrorless design..
nopt
12 months ago |This is true. There’s nothing that says NEX cameras cannot be prosumer/pro oriented. Between the 3 and 5 series models they’ve got the entry-level covered, it only makes sense that the NEX-7 and upwards will be larger cameras with more buttons, better ergonomics etc.

12 months ago |Hmmm I hope it will be like the canon 60D’s side hinging screen!
Anyway, how many AF points will the A77 have? I have looked through the website, but dont think the exact number of points was mentioned! only something about an improved AF system. Will it have the 51 point system rumoured on other sites?

12 months ago |A lower left CORNER hinge would allow the screen to be anywhere — side or centered. It would actually be a couple hinges.

12 months ago |Wonder if people that are all about nex own zeiss lenses and a a700/a900like I do. The nex for me is a convenient “compact camera”. In my opinion the nex is a poor man’s dslr. I’m looking foward for the a77

12 months ago |The big advantage of the NEX is the smaller flange distance, helps me to adapt my prefered lenses.
My hope the NEX7 is more professional and there for bigger with better controls.
The NEX 3/5/3C indeed are compact cams not comfortable usable for me.
