(SR2) Details about the new E-mount lenses?

Image courtesy: Photoscala
We found some good leaks in the past on mobile01.com (google english translation) that’a why we post the new E-mount rumors we found inside that forum. Those are the rumored focal lenghts and apertures of the new E-mount lenses we should see in 2011/12:
Four primes:
30mm F2.8 macro
35mm F1.4 Zeiss
50mm F1.8
85mm F2.8
Three zooms:
16-50mm F3.5-4.5
55-200mm F4-5.6
70-300 F4.5-5.6 G
Source: mobile01.com (google english translation)
Reminder (SR = Sonyrumor):
SR1=probably fake rumor
SR2=rumor from unkown sources
SR3=50% chance it is correct
SR4=rumor from known sources
SR5=almost certainly correct!

2 years ago |35mm Zeiss, 52.5mm FF equivalent? It’s supposed to be a wide-angle. At the very least, this one is false.
Joel
2 years ago |Primes need to be pancake if possible, and the 16-50 zoom looks good. After that, they need a larger body in the NEX7 to manage the larger lenses.
Edgars
2 years ago |Agree, NEX need pancakes, unfortunately mokups are closer to cakes.
PMac
2 years ago |edgars – I think a couple of pancakes are certainly nice but I’d also caution that there hasnt been a pancake lens made (including Pentax, Zeiss, Panny etc) that isnt compromised to some extent optically.
So like you I’d welcome one or two more into the line-up but I’d hate to see more than than.

2 years ago |I hope the Zeiss prime rumors are true, but I have to wonder why companies keep making APS-C lenses at full frame focal lengths. Instead of a 35mm f/1.4 as a standard prime why not make a 33mm f/1.4 (although I’d rather have a 30mm f/1.4 personally). Instead of a 50mm f/1.4 as a portrait prime why not make a 57mm f/1.8 to match full frame 85mm primes? It’s a minor thing, I’m just happy they’re making E-mount Zeiss primes, but it seems like if you’re building lenses from the ground up for an APS-C sensor now would be a good time to be as accurate as possible with the focal lengths.

2 years ago |I’m presuming because it’s easier to adapt from existing optics :s Higher production cost but lower development time? *I’m spouting nonsense here*

2 years ago |Four primes:
30mm F2.8 macro -> probably
35mm F1.4 Zeiss -> No way, that’s not wide AT ALL
50mm F1.8 -> I doubt they’d call it a portrait lens. Doesn’t look like a 50mm
85mm F2.8 -> Should be the portrait lens, I think.
100/2, 135/2.8 -> should be the middle telephoto
Three zooms:
16-50mm F3.5-4.5 -> that’s a standard zoom, not wide. I bet on a 12-35 or something instead.
55-200mm F4-5.6 -> why not
70-300 F4.5-5.6 G -> they said STANDARD hi performance zoom. Meaning it will be more like a 16-50 or 18-70. True that its lenght lead to think otherwise (20-120 ?), but… No way they would say “standard” for a 70-300.
Sounds like a fake to me
Michael
2 years ago |The G zoom is described by Sony as a “Standard Zoom”, so this does not quite match a 70-300.
kerlu
2 years ago |Looks like fake to me. 35mm on nex is anything but wide angle. Something around 20mm would be nice and is more likely.
Paul
2 years ago |Yeah, but look at the size of that Zeiss – same as the 18-55mm one already out. It may be that all along it was a stoopid Sony marketing description, and never should have been called wide-angle.
Myst
2 years ago |the macro should be around 30-50mm
The wide angle zeiss should be around 24mm anything above and it’s not really wide angle anymore cause these lenses are made for APSC sensors
The portrait should be 85mm f/2
and the middle telephoto around 135mm f/2.8
wide angle i expect it to be 10-24mm
the high performance 16-50mm f/2.8
and the tele zoom can be a 55-200mm
that should be the sensible guess based only their appearance and they names sony gave. Though i also expect a pancake or 2 in the next 2 years, it a stupid move if sony don’t come up with 1 or 2 cause there is a huge market for pancakes on small bodies like the nex.
Kyle Bason
2 years ago |That’s exactly my guess as well. Though It’s possible the 85mm will be an f/2.8 and not an f/2.
Myst
2 years ago |it can be, but it looks bigger than the current a mount 85mm f/2.8 and we all know you can make smaller lenses for NEX cause of the flange distance and cause this one will be probably be made for apsc only.

2 years ago |Those focal lengths make sense if they were the “full frame equivalents” rather than true focal length.
admin
2 years ago |In my modest opinion some of those lenses will be fullframe…
Chris
2 years ago |i agree.. people here are misreading at least the prime focal lenghts.. but i am not sure about the zooms.
the 35mm zeiss wide angle will be a 23mm (35mm equivalent) because 35mm (ff) is technically still considered a wide angle but.
Dude
2 years ago |@Chris
It is the other way around ;o)
35mm on APS-C equal the field view a 52,5mm on FF has.
And that is why 35mm is not wide angle and 70-300mm no standard zoom, and so on…
On the FF.
It changes nothing on the focal length of the lenses.
A 35mm will equal 52.5mm view on the NEX3 and NEX-5.
And those two models will be the most sold.
A FF model would be remarkable more expansive and have very small sales.
Would make absolutly no sense to release lenses aimed for FF if 99% of the users run on APS-C.
Besides only because the E-Mount can support FF sensor it does not mean it makes sense to release cameras for it.
And honestly those lenses are still very small.
To be FF they either have real slow aperture or bad performance.
NEX FF is a technical possibility and surely a nerdy dream but not anything to bring to the market, cost effectively.

2 years ago |Fake. They said G zoom would be standard zoom
Chris
2 years ago |you need to read the rumor again, or at least you didnt understand me.
this is the e mount (nex/1,5 crop)) road map..
they list a zeiss wide angle fixed prime. the rumor says 35mm f1.4
35mm is only “wide” in terms of fullframe focal lenght
so the rumored lens will be 35mm/1,5(crop) = 24mm Zeiss F1.4
only problem is that it will probably not a pancake and too expensive..
but the 50mm(ff equiv.) f1.8 or f2 would be interesting. they should really hurry up. because it is totally ridiculous to use nex5 with a zoom.
mirrowless only makes sense with a nice pancake, if you dont care about zoom size than simply use your dslr.
PMac
2 years ago |Possibly true, possibly not – though in general I think they are wrong, the wides and standards dont seem to line up. There are a bunch of assumptions in there like FF capable or just DT, actual length or FF equivalent? Time (and/or more rumours) will tell.
Lets assume its right, I like most of it except:
70-300G – what the? I understand Sony could be thinking that there are people out there who will make the NEX their only camera so they think they need a ‘full’ line-up I would need a lot of convincing to believe this was a huge number. A high quality tele simply isnt a priority for this style of camera.
Stop development on that lens and give us a 20 or 24 2.0 cz or g that wasnt too big (say about the size of current zeiss glass in the m mount) and this line-up would be pretty good.
(oh, and pull the dates to the left, Sony, I’m expecting to see a flurry of M4/3′s stuff in the left 12 months. For the first time you have a change to have a competitive “system” dont blow it)
Chris
2 years ago |maybe they will build a more pro mirrorless camera in 2011.. imagine a a700 but without the mirror.. could be interesting if they improve the (continues) autofocus.
PMac
2 years ago |Chris, actually you are right and I wasnt thinking clearly enough. The rumour IS NOT the NEX lens line-up, its the E mount line-up. At the moment that means the NEX stills cameras and a camcorder. That could easily also include other forms in which the offered lens line-up makes sense. Good catch.
Stu
2 years ago |Guys if you refer back to the post on the 24th :
“Also, it was possible to create a full frame NEX, using the same mount and the A-mount adaptor, but never the same lenses as the APS-C NEX. The mount had been designed to allow this and it might one day happen, in which case full-frame adapted Leica lenses (and so on) would be even more useful.”
If you take this at face value, e-mount lenses will not be FF.
So for a FF nex you would still be using a-mount lenses/adapters

2 years ago |There is a lot of use for a lens like that. The SAL30M28 is my favorite APS-C lens.

2 years ago |I hope Sony don’t make these lenses a major disappointment.
* Sony did a good job shrinking the camera but probably gonna mess things up with way to big lenses.
Pancake lenses should be priority 1 in the E-mount line-up.
* Wide angle Zeiss lenses in the 1500-2000$ range aren’t that interesting I hope they are below 1000$.
* It would be nice with 24/1.4, 30/1.8 or 35/1.8 in the more affordable range.
