(SR2) High End NEX camera coming at Photokina?
Image on top: The current NEX-7. Is the NEX-9 coming?
Before you read, this is a unconfirmed rumor from a new source. So take it with a grain of salt. As usual I hope my anonymous trusted sources can confirm or deny this soon.
A new source told us that a “new High End NEX camera is going to be displayed at the Photokina show“. The model has a higher number than than the NEX-7 (maybe Nex-9?). In any case this is an APS-C model not a Full Frame mirrorless! The fact that the source told me it is going to be displayed may hints the possibility of a 2013 availability (in Stock) only.
I can’t really figure out what the NEX-9 could do visibly better than the NEX-7. You may have an idea of what a NEX-9 APS-C sensor camera should do to convince you to buy it instead of the current NEX-7?

P.S.: NEX-7 is a hotseller at all rankings: Amazon US , Amazon Germany, Amazon France and at Amazon.

Reminder (SR = Sonyrumor):
SR1=probably fake rumor
SR2=rumor from unknown sources
SR3=50% chance it is correct
SR4=rumor from known sources
SR5=almost certainly correct!

11 months ago |If I had to guess I’d say a VG30. But then again, Photokina is dedicated for photography and the VG line is mainly for video. I would love to see a VG30 that doesn’t suck though.
Something with:
* much improved IQ
* improved lowlight
* color profiles
* greater dynamic range
* Better + more buttons. Less menu digging.
* Another customizable wheel
* XLRs???
* Anything else that’s cool. Right now the VG20 is not worth $2200. I wouldn’t pay more than $1400 or 1500 for it, with kit lens.

11 months ago |How about a VG series with NEX-7 style controls. I would say the NEX-7 sensor but the 16MP sensor is already overkill for the VG cams.

11 months ago |Why Sony why? Why keep building new cameras instead of new lenses?
What is wrong with NEX-7? Not a lot to justify a new APS-C camera with the same set of lenses.

11 months ago |Nothing would convince me to buy an ‘NEX 9′ until Sony proves to me that they will support it properly! I’m still waiting (like everyone else) for Sony to fix the known issues with the NEX 7! SONY ARE YOU LISTENING! WHERE IS THE FIRMWARE UPDATE FOR THE NEX 7! If Sony wants Pro photographers like me to purchase (or convert to) Sony products in the future they need to learn to listen to customers and respond to issues and problems promptly. If nothing else they should at least communicate with us as to the status and estimated timing of planned firmware updates.

11 months ago |I’m also getting a little tired of waiting for at least some of the NEX-7′s issues to be addressed in a firmware update. I suspect though that we won’t see a firmware update until a competitor announces a camera that Sony feels could threaten NEX-7 sales. So I’d say late summer, right before Photokina.

11 months ago |Sony, we DON’T need more cameras! We want lenses, and i mean affordable fast primes! No zooms, no more bullshits! It’s ridiculous what Sony is doing…
Björn Utpott
11 months ago |While from my point of view I agree with your statement that we need more fast primes, Sony also desperately needs a COMPACT kit zoom. Next to the competition from Panasonic, and to a lesser degree Olympus and Samsung, Sony’s NEX 18-55 kit zoom is huge. Consumers who want an overall compact package are going to opt for a Panasonic with the tiny X14-42 pancake zoom and not a NEX kit.

11 months ago |I don’t believe this rumor…but will be good (for me) to notice another high end NEX cam. If the rumor is true, maybe the new goods are:
- 36 megapixels sensor , or 24 with better high ISO.
- Tiltable EVF (this will come some day for sure)
- Touchscreen.
- Some new body color?
- A bundle pack with the new E18-200.
This could be the NEX F7

11 months ago |Another camera??? There are enough cameras!! We first and foremost need new firmware for the Nex-7!! Then we need f2.8 zooms!!!
FredA
11 months ago |A Nex 9 could have :
- better EVF
- phase AF (like Nikon 1)
Of course, without lenses it doesn’t make much sense, as many pointed already…

11 months ago |Hello and first of all I apologise for my bad english.
A Nex 9,7,5,3 should be weatherproof and the lenses also; Minolta did it with the Vectis some years ago! Should we just take pictures wenn the sun shine? A 100-400 mm F 4-5.6 zoom would be great also. Sweet little dream

11 months ago |I think Sony could really improve the off camera support for the NEX-7. I started out with the NEX-5 and then got the 7. As I’ve been experimenting more with flashes though, I’ve been pretty dissapointed by the lack of off camera flash options and controls. I want to be able to adjust flash power from the camera body and not have to walk over to the stand, lower it, open the soft box, change the power and try again.
I just hope if they make another NEX they won’t add in all the features that are missing from the 7. I just got it for crying out loud! I probably won’t get it though because I know I want to move FF eventually.

11 months ago |Given the huge potential to leverage legacy glass, adding in-body image stabilization would be enough to make me upgrade from the NEX-7.
