(SR2) Primetimecrew says that Sony is developing a 30mm f/1.8 lens and a new EVF for the NEX system.
It is the first time that I read that website so I can’t tell you how reliable their rumors are. But according to primetimecrew.wordpress.com “Sony is currently developing an EVF as well as a 30mm f1.8.”
We know that Sony is working on a new EVF (OLED?). But we didn’t hear anything about a 30mm prime lens.
Thanks Kris W.!

I just hope they they do it this year : )

2 years ago |Yep, those are my two hold ups on the NEX system right now as well. I have to have an EVF; preferably built into a rangefinder-style body opposed to a clip on (I like to use strobes). I also have to have a fast standard prime. I still use a nifty fifty as my main lens 85% of the time. I can’t have a camera without one. I still find it odd that they released a 16mm prime before releasing a 30mm prime. Don’t get be wrong, I’d buy the 16mm also, but a 30mm would be far more useful.

2 years ago |Please be true. That’s exactly the lens I’d want for this system, and frankly, the one it should have been launched with. If they announce this before the NEX starts shipping, they’ve got my money. I just hope it’s similarly sized to the Panny and Olympus standard primes…

Please give me macro with it!

2 years ago |If you want macro abilities why wait on a new lens? There are thousands of used manual primes out there that will work just fine with an adapter ring (when they arrive). This guy uses a $80 50mm manual focus prime + a $30 extension tube and gets better results then I’ve seen from 99.9% of the people I’ve seen waste hundreds upon thousands on the latest greatest macro lens:

That’s just one example, but look through his entire photo stream, he has dozens.

Right on man! There are some amazing cheap lenses out there which are cheap because they are manual focus and a few years old, not because they are of low optical quality. This is a treasure trove which many people ignore just because there is no autofocus, but autofocus is easier than ever with the nex cameras which have a 7x and a 14x (if I remember correctly) magnification function available. Lenses with great bokeh and color and all sorts of interesting qualities. Not to mention of course that it is not the lens that makes the good photo, but the photographer. I will buy some adaptors the instant they are available and attach a whole range of small primes.

2 years ago |The lack of manual controls over video are such a disappointment. The rumor was that the reason Sony waited so long to put video in their cameras is because they wanted to make sure they did it right. You’ve gotta admit, if you have any interest in video the lack of controls over the video is a problem.

I don’t think anyone who’s buying the NEX cameras is looking to do serious macro work with it. I don’t think anyone’s gonna do ANY serious work with the cameras, or at least not at this stage.
With that said, having macro abilities gives the user freedom of casually shooting maybe flowers or food when they feel like, instead of having to get extension tubes, thousand dollar macro lenses, etc..
I personally love shooting food, the 16mm just won’t cut it for me in that matter, and I’m not considering anything else with the NEX except pancakes.

2 years ago |OLED EVF?? a little difficul…
Every maker get the EVF from Koplin, this is a electronic company specialized in small displays.
Samsung, Kodak, Olympus, Panasonic, Sony, etc… use their smal displays.
An OLED or AMOLED display could be good: high contrast ratio, blacks really darker, high frequency (more than 240Hz), better color, etc… but, now just Samsung has the capacity to make different size of AMOLED.

2 years ago |I would rather have a 24 or 28mm. A 30mm gives a 45mm equivalent view. When a look at descriptions of rangefiners from the 60′s, 45mm was common, but it seems that 42 and 40 were more so in the 70′s. Was this for a reason? We used a 42mm lens years ago on film, and it seemed a good angle of view. When I use a 28mm on my Alpha dslr, it seems pretty good, but sometimes I wish it as a bit wider.
Maybe with panorama mode available, that could be used for times when you want a bit wider

2 years ago |This would be a thousand-dollar lens, right? f1.8 is expensive to produce, yes?
So this would be more proof that the NEX7 will be a camera targeted to professionals. No amateur user would spend that kind of money on a lens.

I dont think / hope it will be 1000 dollar. That would be way to much.
The Samsung 30mm ƒ2.0 (same size sensor as Nex) costs 200€ in Germany (200$ in the US?)
250€ would be maximum for me.
the panasonic 20mm (40mm in full frame terms) costs 370€ in Germany which seems like a rip off to me.

2 years ago |30mm/f1.8 does seem like a very attractive lens for the NEX system. Hope they make the NEX5 or NEX7 available ASAP as a kit as many do not need or necessarily want the 16mm while both together make a good match for mini camera.
Think you could crop the 30mm sufficiently to use for short portrait end and then crop the panarama view to get any degree of wide angle field of view you wanted? Ie possible to get anywhere from 9mm to 45mm depending on cropping?
