(SR3) More about the A77 (and A7xx!)
I just received the following rumors form a good source. I hope other sources can confirm that soon:
“And an update: I can say that there maybe an DSLR alongside the A77, A7XX. Just like the A580 to the A55. And to clear the other debacle up: You can either have:
CF card
CF+SD card
CF+MS card
SD+MS card
SD card
MS card
”
REMINDER: The A77 and/or A7xx will be announced early 2011. At Photokina we will see a mockup only!

2 years ago |Only SR3 when we are so close? Odd… Can’t wait to see if they do the double A77/A750 or just the A77… Also if there is an A750 when would it be released, the rumour for the A77 said early 2011, same story for the A750 or would it be available for xmas?

2 years ago |The source is good. But I need a second source to make it SR4

2 years ago |I think SR3 is fine. After all, presenters/exhibitors would be quiet before Photokina. If you keep leaking out information, what’s left for Photokina?^^

2 years ago |Andreas, don’t you have any insider there at Photokina?
Myst
2 years ago |sound reasonable enough, given the new d7000 the 2 sony’s have to be great cameras if they ever want to appeal to a lot of buyers.

2 years ago |Funny thing is that immediately before the A33 was announced we already had a bunch of data that turned out to be pretty close to the truth. This time it’s similar for the A77, but we’re not getting much at all for the A750… If it is announced it will be either one of the best handled announcements we’ve seen in terms of secrecy, or it will be yet another mock up with few details, or nothing.

2 years ago |The info about A77 is very sparse, only constructive news is about memory cards – whole the rest could be figured out day after A55 release.
(hell – even I wrote here and there that it’ll be bigger and with better battery, bla bla bla)
admin
2 years ago |And what about the higher resolution 18 Megapixels sensor? The 31point autofocus? Is that also Blabla?
acolyte
2 years ago |I thought the rumor was 32 point and someone said they shouldn’t make even-numbered AF points
It was funny when I saw that comment :p
Sky_walker
2 years ago |erm… yea. It’s also not very surprising. I mean: It’s superb news, something I really enjoy (ok, more megapixels sux, 16 was already too much, here is the point where I scream: Sony don’t go this way!, the Canon way. But more AF points is a good news).
Why it was so predictable?
See the Alpha 700 story. At the time it got more megapixels than previous model (A100 – 10, A700 – 12.2), more AF points (11 vs 9), it was bigger, and had different battery.
Everything identical to what A55 is vs what A77 will be.
What Sony can surprise me now, and what I really hope for (just that it’d get better reviews) is an option to flip the mirror while taking still photos – to gain better ISO and remove any possible ghosting. It’d address majority of issues people have with SLT design as such. (ok, EVF is another major issue, but this will be addressed in A7xx if it’s gonna be released (for what I really hope!) )

2 years ago |In the world of development, plans can be drawn weeks before launch. With hardware, it may be months, or a couple of years. AF points is not that hard to change. Sensor size is hard to change.
Development and release usually differs by 2 cycles
Product A release. B testing (wait for market response). C develops.
Product B release. C testing (wait for market response). D develops (response to market response)
Product C release. D testing. and so on.

2 years ago |Clear that if they fail in delivering the goods, nikon is there waiting with that D7000…
Joel
2 years ago |Exactly. In fact, I seriously doubt this mystical A750 will even be able to match the D7000 specs. I’m just about ready to give up on Sony. They just dont care enough about the semi-pro consumer.

2 years ago |SONY showed a prototype/mockup several times this year, so there should be a a7xx(with OVF), unless SONY cancelled it “recently”.

2 years ago |I hope they will show complete A7xx ready for the market, and prototype of A77.

2 years ago |I hope this roadmap is finally confirmed. I ready for an upgrade, but I won’t wait too long.
Brett
2 years ago |Well, hopefully we’ll have lots of good things to talk about after tomorrow, and then maybe focus our energy on the FF replacements.
I would assume then the A77/A7xx is coming with 2 slots, one SD, and one CF with an MS adapter.

2 years ago |All I care is because they’ve kept us waiting for so long, they’d think we stocked up on SD cards? Heck. It’s been three years since A700. There’re many CF cards stocked out there.
Sky_walker
2 years ago |There’s one huge thing one should remember in regard of SD vs CF: performance
Something Alpha 55 and Alpha 33 lack of.
Compact Flash cards thanks to much more contacts always be ahead of SDs – if you’ll use the same tech for CF as you’d for SD you can gain much more disc space and much much higher write and read speed.
I understand that trend is towards abandoning CFs but high megapixel, high FPS cameras are perfectly made for Compact Flash cards, while for SDs they sux (legendary 50s buffer cleaning – not true, but still you get the picture
).
Brett
2 years ago |Notwithstanding the performance benefit, I actually prefer the size of the CF cards over SD. Easier to handle.

2 years ago |Especially in winter. Very much true.
(yes, there are very cold winters here where I live ~_~)

2 years ago |Good thing about SD: my laptop got the drive
Good thing about CF: harder to lose it :p

2 years ago |i hope the a750 replacement is announced, so then i never have to hear another complaint or rumor about it.

2 years ago |OK, this is my point of view: think all as a Matrix… on one side the quality level: Base model, Middle Model, High Model; on other side, technology implemented as Mirrorless, Translucent Mirror, DSLR. Now take a look at Sony Cameras: Base model are Nex-3, A33, A390; Middles are Nex-5, A55, A560/580; Highest will be Nex-7, A77, A780… I have something like sixth sense on this and I’m pretty sure…
According to this I think Nex-7, A77 and A780 will have new sensor (18MP), better focus system, lot of features… this have to be cause Sony are selling is best sensor APS-C (now the 16MP) to Nikon (for D7000) and Pentax (For Kr-5)… so to beat them, have to push on something more for semipro-level.
Will see… and hoping I’m right…
Cheers,

2 years ago |Sonys continuous focus on the lower end of the market is becoming somewhat irritating now, not a single semi pro camera since the a700, and yet off the top of my head I can count a total of 18 mid range and below cameras
(a100,200,230,290,300,330,350,380,390,450,500,550,560,580,33,55,nex-3,nex-5)
C’mon sony, spread your butcheeks, get your head out of your backside and actually take a look at what consumers want instead of hiding under a rock lol.
I really hope they can produce at photokina, I really do :/

2 years ago |It’s not just the plethora of low end models introduced that’s the problem, but the large whole in the range between these and the two top models (A850 and A900). Where are the equivalents of the Nikon D300 (which looks like being the A7xx) and the Nikon D700 (the once rumoured A800). Both the A7xx and A800 have been talked about for 12 months or more and yet no sign of them yet.
Personally I am still holding out for the rumoured A800 (approx. 16MP, OVF, built in flash), but am beginning to lose hope. I have just recently started seriously looking at the Nikon D700 (which has received excellent reviews) and offloading all my Minolta kit (having not yet moved away from film). Come on Sony launch something that would stop me jumping ship.

2 years ago |Those endlessly awaiting an A700 replacement why don’t you put yourselves out of your misery and get the Pentax K-5. What a great camera with in body image stabilisation. It is everything the A700 is plus a lot more.
Oscar Soto
2 years ago |If only we could sell our lenses easily but that’s difficult and everybody wants to pay just a little amount of money for them
EG
2 years ago |Yes, K-5 is a great camera and I’m thinking seriously to switch to Pentax.

2 years ago |I am a little bit sad that we will not see the a77 and the a7xx at photocina (or only mockups). Sony let us wait to long for pro bodys. They produce only low or mid cmas. Where are the good cams. Ok the A55 is on the right paht but to much of the low and mid models.
I hope the A7XX (and A7x) will have 2 cf cards and not cf and sd or whatever.
I hope also to hear about something about the next FF Cams and new optics.
