(SR4) More A99 and NEX and lens rumor bits from Thailand…
The Fotorelax forum user “StupidCupid” posted more info about the upcomign Sony release. I know he posted some correct rumo before so I am going to share it here on SAR. Thanks StupidCupid for everything you leak! You may post some A99 pics too?
This is his own english text:
“I’ve got a very exciting rumors about A99, New Flash, New Lens and some NEX rumors.
A99 in summary.
Exciting Points.
Focus Point: 102.
Resolutions: 24Mpix.
Back Panel: Like A77.
Flash Hot Shoe: ISO Hot Shoe <— This is a very exciting one because Sony finally decide to step a bit backward to ISO Hot Shoe (but more universal).
2 Individual Slots: Can do simultaneous writing using one for Raw and the other for Jpeg or can set them to be one for photos and the other for Video recording.
A99 In Detail.
A99 will offers 102 focus point and in a local point mode (where you can select one specific point to focus), only 40 + focus points will be selectable and all the neighbors focus point will work as focus assisting points.
For the 24Mpix, this is final and this will make High ISO shooter happy because at ISO 1600, the photo looks nearly noise-free and at ISO 3200, there will be only some noises in dark area.
For the Flash Hot Shoe, this is really unexpected. Sony will use ISO hotshoe for all their upcoming Alpha lines (not sure about NEX) that will make it more appealing than before. (Hopefully, there will be an adapter for using the old flashes.
New Flash with GN60.
The new Flash with GN60 will be ISO hot shoe and rumored to have the same look as the Canon’s 580EXII (SAR: here ot see on Amazon) on the top part while maintaining the Quick Shift Bounce for Portrait with stance. Moreover, this flash will sports an array of LED under Flash lamp for continuous light (using for Video will be a lot more pleasurable).
50mm F/1.4 Zeiss.
There is also a rumor of 50mm F/1.4 Carl Zeiss but may not debut with A99 (However, if it would be to debut with A99, it will be a very good combo).
300 F/2.8 Nano Coating.
This news was written as a new 300mm with F/2.8 using a nano coating and the series is not a “G” series. It could be new series for the lens (This could be a technology trade between Nikon and Sony. This is not confirmed but very likely).
New 2 NEX body (There should be more lenses instead hahahaha).
NEX-6 (This is the same news as in Alpha Rumors) will come with a lower Spec EVF but will also come with Wifi (work like eye-fi card) can set to upload automatically to Smart Devices (iOS / Android).
NEX-5R (R is not yet finalized but very likely will be) the same Wifi as in NEX-6.”

11 months ago |Zeiss 50mm: F1.4 or previously rumored F1.2?
Sahaja
11 months ago |A 50mm f/1.2 is a specialized lens. For most photography f.1.4 would likely be much better (and less expensive). Of course it doesn’t give you the bragging rights an f./1.2 lens would.

11 months ago |I can’t wait to get my hands on the A99. Also love hearing all the cry babies complaining about all the great features, 2 card slots is overkill and buffer will prolly be way too big, 102 focus points is more then I can handle, lol

11 months ago |Clean ISO 3200 I could get from A900 if apply drastic noise reduction. Most important is how details is preserved.
I don’t like ISO hot shoe idea. May be change A-mount to F-mount also is excellent idea? Why support existing customers?
poke
11 months ago |But I think this will be great. If practically noiseless at 1600 and little noise at 3200, then if you have to shoot at 3200 you will not need to apply any noise editing at 3200. From this info and it is just that, shooting at 3200 with my 850 will be the equivalent as shooting at 12800 with the 99. Time will tell if this is true, but I am expecting this to be a very good performer in low light. The 850/900 never could be considered a good performer in low light situations. I would never consider shooting above 3200 with my 850.

11 months ago |So far I haven’t heard anything about tethered shooting (or did I miss it?). The lack of it on the A77 is a great disappointment.
poke
11 months ago |I know. I am waiting nervously for this info. Not a deal breaker for me but I cannot imagine any medium to high end camera nowadays not having the ability to shoot tethered. The fact they changed the hotshot connection to the more standard I cannot imagine that they would leave an important benefit as tethered ability which I would consider a standard function in Nikon’s and Canon’s cameras.

11 months ago |Strange that the 300 f2.8 will not be a G series anymore. But I can understand, Nikon uses the G designation for their modern lenses. Maybe Sony decided to change the name to distinguish from the older professional lenses since the new ones will have weathersealing and new coatings.
hanugro
11 months ago |If it is 24mp and cost $2800 then they should make it 24fps with dual bionz. Otherwise please sell it for $2000 only.
Douglas Grillo
11 months ago |I can see the a99 around $2800-2500, hoping for a earphone jack, manual and silent audio control as the 5D MKIII, 120fps at 720p, also and very import thing clean hdmi output or the AVCHD codec from the pro line as the FS100.
Please Sony

11 months ago |Cut the repeatment of the focal points and noise and all that 1000-time published rumors and get us new things like about whether or not there is tethered shooting
sonypro
11 months ago |Wow… rather demanding!
Joe
11 months ago |The high quality 1600 ISO will help, if it is a truly clean 1600. On the A77 you have to clean and crop ISO 1600 or be shooting ISO 1600 artistically and accepting the noise. Any word on FPS? 12 FPS is amazingly useful, I would hate to see anything lower.
I thought the Zeiss 50mm was a f/1.2 and not f/1.4 – frankly the extra third of a stop is intriguing and I would be thrilled to get a 72mm filter size like the Canon EF version of the f/1.2 has.
sonypro
11 months ago |I very much doubt 12FPS on the FF..
Mats
11 months ago |and why is that?
Without any flapping mirror it should not be any more difficult to manage 12 fps just because it is FF. The shutter can easily handle this and the amount of data is the same as on A77, so there should be no problem at all.
I guess that they bump it up even a little further to 15 fps to gain the title “fastest camera in the world”.
Sony´s problem lies in the spring-actuated aperture control in the lenses. They cannont handle these speed, but at full aperture of course they can have full metering at these speeds.
With the possibility to read from the sensor i n dual streams to Video/Viewfinder and to grap full resolution stills at the same time, the experience would be fluid all the time and simultaneous video and still shots is very specific super feature that could rise sales substantially.
I have very high expectations for this camera.

11 months ago |“stupidcupid” says the back panel is like A77, so what happened to the rumor that there is a control wheel at the bottom left?
voyager42
11 months ago |I think I read that the control wheel is on the left of the FRONT of the camera (from the back perspective – it’s actually on the Right looking from the front)… there is a little wheel on the front of the a77 there now… Presumably if the a99 has the same BACK as the a77 then you would be able to use your right hand for the back and left hand for the new front wheel… makes sense!

11 months ago |Doesn’t sound like Zeiss 50mm is coming soon. Oh well. More money for A99.
High Iso sounds good. XD

Sony makes 1000′s of products why not make this also?
Kevin Alpha
11 months ago |I’m concern about the high ISO thing, is Sony finally going Canikon direction? sacrifice color and image quality for Noise Reduction? I chose the A900 because I know I do not need to shoot over ISO 800, and the details and color look stunning! if Sony wants to jump in professional Sport market, it might be too late for them and also, Canikon already had good lenses for sport while Sony still lacks many. Also, in SLT body, we’re losing some light as well, let’s see how the image turns out from this A99.
poke
11 months ago |Yeah, I am just hoping this is a product of improved sensor technology. The 800 at 36MPix does not have bad noise, looks better than the 850 at 1600 and 3200 as far as noise. The 24Mpix should actually be better in that department without loss of accurate color and detail. At least that is what I am hoping.
Joel
11 months ago |Because the D800 is massively compromised when it comes dynamic range and colour representation… lol.. fool
lollo
11 months ago |Are you sure that DR in the D800 is “massively compromised”?
The photos I saw so far, are actually showing the opposite.

What about this new flash could not be accommodated with “Alpha iISO”?…
(aside from “we made it look like a Canon”)

SAR… Really misleading people by your irresponsible use of the word “standard”. The Mino iISO has been the “standard” Alpha mount for 25 years.

11 months ago |Disapointment? I dumped my Nikon D300 for the a77 and I cannot find one single thing that isn’t FAR, FAR superior!
Let me guess… you don’t actually OWN an a77…. you’re just regergitating troll sh*t?
LAPR
11 months ago |I dumped Sony for Nikon, I cannot compare D300 vs. A77. Is your statement between those 2 or between systems, ’cause I can think in about a dozen things that are far superior.
Rooru S.
11 months ago |He absolutely is talking about the A77. Does he says something about System? no. He’s talking about the camera, and if he is Ok with the camera, then he of course, have a lens to go up with the camera. Not everyone buys a camera just because of the bunch of lenses he isn’t going to get anytime soon, Do you?
Joel
11 months ago |One would hope a one year old body is far superior to a 5 year old one

11 months ago |below are “rumours” (actual):
- ISO will go ‘up into the hundreds of thousands’ (yeah rite..)
- price will be in the same area of the Canon 60D (no. price is close to D7000 but inferior..)
- It will take CF+SD+MS cards, of which you can use two at the same time. (no CF)
- With the new battery you can take around 1.000 pictures. (much less than that)

bloodsucker
11 months ago |they will not tell you their commitment.
looking at economy and sony’s financial, i don’t think it’s a very bright prospect to ‘invest’ in sony system.
Brendon
11 months ago |If they are launching new lenses and bodies at regular intervals then they are definitely committed else they would go the Olympus 4/3rd system way and stop releases of new lenses and bodies.

11 months ago |hmm… sound like a99 will be the out-performed by d800 5dmk3
hack sony slt absolutely out perform the rest of sony camera including a99 lol…
lollo
11 months ago |5dmk3 barely outperform mark2, which was vastly outperformed by a900, except for noise above 800iso.
unles you take photos only in darkrooms, i cannot see where the 5dmk3 can outperform the next sony FF.
Based on previous models and leaked specs: colors, DR, AF speed and accuracy, FPS and buffer, video modes of the next Sony FF will be leap and bound above the canon and likely the Nikon. We can expect the Sony to be a match up to 3200 iso to both cameras, above that, probably it will lag behind a bit, but for all the other features, the Sony will very likely be better.

11 months ago |ISO Hot Shoe is horrible news. The Minolta Flashmount is way better designed, it is way faster in use, it can easily be mounted and unmounted with one hand and on top it is more reliable. If you want the ISO mount then you can get an FS-1100 that is doing a quite decent job, and if Sony wanted they could make something alike specifically fitted for the A99.
Solo
11 months ago |I’m not going to comment on this until I see the design of the included adapter- I would hope that it would be better designed than current adaptors to allow a more solid, reliable connection for older accessories.
I just wish the current hotshoe wasn’t fucking PLASTIC however- my A850 is currently being serviced because of the loose hot shoe, just from the weight of the F58. I am at the very least looking forward to a beefier metal ISO hotshoe.
Sahaja
11 months ago |Reliable? About the most commonly reported repair on the A900 / A850 seems to be the hotshoe. I can understand why Sony want to change it.

11 months ago |why do so many people react that grumpy when someone is unhappy with his/her Alpha… it is a fact that the Sony Alpha isn’t exactly brilliant, and yes CaNi isn’t perfect either!
I used A100, A700, A900 and now A77 and in my point of view the ISO performance of the SLT is very unsatisfying … I noticed that especially comparing my football photography with my CaNi-competitors that the performance is far behind… but yes, a Nikon D3s is far more expensive than the A77 … the A900 is not fast enough for me (I love the 12p/s).
All I want to say is: though I have been thinking to switch, I really hope Sony releases Highend Cameras which can keep up with D4 or 1D !!! I am willing to pay the price, because I love Sony in so many ways (yes I am a happy EVF user) … and switching is extremely expensive!
Final verdict of my opinion: please let the people tell their point of view without calling them fools, idiots or whatever!

11 months ago |You have to keep in mind that the a77 got a 24mpx APS-C Sensor. That’s the reason for the bad noise performance in comparison to a55/a580 and Canikon.
Martin Gamper
11 months ago |That’s why I am looking forward to the A99 … I really hope that the significant noise reduces significant with the FF sensor! Actually I am really happy that Sony decided to stay with 24mpx and do not upgrade to 36mpx …
Hope dies last.
maybe with the new AF system + the FF sensor I will become a dignifying rival to the extremly equipped CaNi football photographers next to me
