(SR5) 70-400mm G II and 70-200mm GII will arrive in late 2012 early 2013 only
To protect my sources I can’t tell you the full story but I have been told that the Alpha Lens roadmap contained an error and the 70-400mm and 70-200mm G II lenses will arrive in late 2012 early 2013 and not in early 2012. Again, it wasn’t my or the sources error. I should get some details about the definitive roadmap soon. Also about the NEX lenses.
Sorry guys, I know this are news you don’t like to hear from me

A new 35mm 1,4 with SSM
A new 50mm 1,4 with SSM
A FullFrame Standardzoom lens like a 24-105 or similar
and for me as relativly low Budget APS-C Shooter:
An easy-choice DT 24mm f2 or similar

2 years ago |there is no such thing as A99…it does not exist and may never exsit. who knows? Sony may abandon the FF and concentrate on lower end stuff. If I were an investor in, or an executive at Sony, I would seriously consider this alternative for profit maximization reasons. They have been cutting parts of the business that does not make enough profit, and FF has been exactly that in the last 3 years. Tough decision but it may have to be made sooner or later.
In the meantime you can have either a 5D MK3 or D800 and both aforementioned lenses today (or whenever the finances allow). But at least this equipment is real, it exists and can be purchased from the usual online retailers (well – in 2 weeks, to be precise)

It pains me to say this but you’re correct.
We don’t really know what Sony will do, I’m not sure Sony does
What we do know, it that Sony hasn’t demonstrated much of a commitment to full-frame and the quality optics that support it for several years.
Yes, I know that there have been a few low-end lenses and a Zeiss 24/f2 a few years back but really…
Jim
2 years ago |Actually Sony does not know either. I have read a couple of recent analyst reports about the new CEO and their strategy to get out of the financial hole…They are in worse shape than other electronics companies…The bottom line for right now and many more years to come is – taking care of the bottom line. Returning this giant back to profitability. how it happnes is secondary and no cow is sacred enough. They are making cuts in investment and spending right now and re-focusing on the sectors where they can compete and make good returns.
Sorry to say that FF is not that sector

Nikon, Canon … please they have a market and keep the same users happy but i predict very few new user will buy canon or nikon DSLR (not talking about FF the number of ppl buying FF is so low its not interesting for companies). In few years sony/samsung will be at the top of photography market.

Apparently and accordingly to Andrea (Admin) it is delayed.
You may think different, but most users I spoke to and posters of this site do believe that Sonys current lens strategy is a mess.
How many new NEX lenses were shipped since the announcement of first NEX-5?

How many new Alpha lenses were shipped since the announcement of first SLT-a55?
- Compare this to how many different versions of SLT were shipped!

2 years ago |You’re right about that…The problem is…Sony is an electronic giant and is facing serious problems in the optics department. My opinion? They’re not moving sufficient resources for optics research and development(that takes more time and money) and they just want to have people buying their stuff with the minimum amount of invested money possible (camera bodies that right now is just circuits and sensor, their strong base). Maybe it is just me, but I think this is the real problem.
SonyA77
2 years ago |It isn’t a problem for Sony, if Sony continue to sell bodies.
Sony are only interested in turning over cameras, that’s where the money is. People here constantly fail to grasp this simple point about Sony.
If you are wanting loads of lenses, then Sony isn’t for you. However if you want cutting edge camera technology and a selection of commonly used lenses, then Sony is fine.
Even with CaNikon, the vast majority of dSLR users buy nothing more than the kit lens. Yes SOME buy more lenses, but that number will be dwarfed by those that don’t.
It is very easy for us enthusiasts here to fall into the trap of believing that we are in the majority of camera buyers. We are not!

2 years ago |Well, we are not representing Sony here.
These forums are for USERS of Sony camera systems.
As users we do expect a complete systems of lenses and cameras.
Considering that the NEX is a new platform with many competitors, one would expect a better lens road map.
I understand that you tirelessly defending & excusing Sony, and that is ok, but to claim that we users should not complain of sub-standard execution is not acceptable.
These forums are for enthusiast who like (or love) their Sony but expect more.
SonyA77
2 years ago |In what way was I “defending and excusing” Sony?
Where did I say that “we users should not complain of sub-standard execution” either?
I am merely stating what it patently obvious and has been obvious for years.
Perhaps it is YOU that does not want to hear people saying this?
Jim
2 years ago |based on the reasoning above, which I agree with, we should all stop using Sony and switch to a DSLR system that is actually designed for folks like us.
Sony may abandon FF later this year and eventually may abandon the A mount. And that’s okay as they will be very successful in making mirrorless cameras. Just like Panasonic and Samsung, two perfectly good electronics companies. But not photography companies. Sony is much more like these two and not like Canon and Nikon. Minolta was like them, but Sony is not.
We should all stop pretending that Sony is a real photography company and go to the two janapenese manufacturers that are.
Willie
2 years ago |@Jim, it is obvious that you are being compensated to throw all this FUD. And, it is obvious who is compensating you. For them to do this means that they are feeling threatened by this technology without the old-fashioned flippy mirror to shake the tripod. How pathetic of them and you.
FWIW, I just got done doing a wildlife shoot along with several great photographers, one with your brand and one with the other. Both questioned me in a dissing way about why in the world I chose Sony. Both had great lenses – 500/4 and 200-400/4. I had my 70-400G and new a77. They saw me use live view with full fast phase angle focus capability and remote release from low angles, they had to lay on the wet ground to use their OVF. They heard 12 FPS while the bird was moving around, they had fast rates, but nowhere near that. Priceless, though, was when we all compared images afterwards and my IQ was better in color and detail. They both had many, many questions, and lets just say they were not the least bit dismissive any more.

2 years ago |While I can understand the logic of the arguments my confusion is the mixed messages that Sony sends us… If they are not serious about cameras and FF why on earth would they come out with a $13,000 500mm lens?… Can’t imagine a single person buying that to put on a A57… maybe a A77 but that’s pushing it… and it’s obviously geared to the professional or company at that price!!!…
As far as the 70-400G II and 70-200G II are concerned, I for one am waiting for that. I was just about to list my 70-400G on eBay for $1000 so I could get the new one. Now it looks like the 2 lenses will be announced around about the same time as the A99… if that is real!!!…
I consider myself to be one of the few people who bought into the Mirrorless/SLT product line… I bought the NEX-5 when it came out, then the A55 and now the A77. With the A77 I bought the 24-70CZ so again, I am one of those people who have also bought into the lenses… I also plan to go to FF if, and when, it becomes a reality… so far the A77 is working great for me!
Just as a further comment… I love the idea of a RUMOUR being delayed!!!… Is that an Oxymoron?

I’ve seen nothing in the years since Sony purchased the Minolta camera group that makes me believe that this division has any use to Sony except as a testing platform for selling electronics to other companies interested in photography like Nikon.
It’s clear why Sony produces so many camera bodies, as each is used so showcase its sensors then Sony sells the rights to use the sensor to someone else and then promises not to compete.
Good optics are an investment that can be used for years, unlike the planned obsolescence of the camera itself and Sony has shown no interest in lenses for any of the alpha cameraas, just the electronics.
When or if a lens roadmap is made public maybe will be an important day for the A-mount. It’s now March, and somehow now I don’t expect to see anything ship this year if it has yet to be officially announced.
Jim
2 years ago |agreed. When Minolta folks were first acquired by Sony they were able to convince the corporate to allow them to design and introduce one FF body, so they can “compete with Canon and Nikon”. That turned out to be a niche business as very few folks actually bought that body. But it did not make Sony an equal player in the pro segment. Sony reps repeatedly stated that the FF is not a profit center – i.e. it’s a money losing product – due to low volume and high R&D expenses. The new CEO is not likely to make the same mistake again. The R&D and marketing budgets will be allocated to the segments where Sony has an edge over C and N – mirrorless and consumer cameras. Imaging as a whole is 9% of Sony’s bottom line – that includes everything. A-mount is probably 20% of that, and FF is 5% of that – or put it another way, FF a tiny fraction of one % of the entire corporate profit. So why bother then?
Clifton
2 years ago |1 reason to bother is to keep the people in the A7X range happy, which is a profitable area. The buyers in this area are the ones who would be interested in a FF cameras but for a guess, the majority wouldnt ever buy one but would buy into the A7 range with intentions of doing so. In some ways the value of having a top range of DSLR/SLT creates more sales than the actual sales of the top end cameras alone. I certainly took this into consideration when buying my A700 and would be doubtful about buying another A mount camera without an upgrade path, even if it is one thats inferior to the rivals.
Carl
2 years ago |Sony’s lens strategy has always been a mess, and for the conceivable future, always will. That’s just the way it is in A mount land.
SonyYeah
2 years ago |The new lenses will arrive in 2012, or 2013, or 2014, or 2015, just like the 500mm lens which costs $13000.
Again Sony, too little too late.
If they ever release an A900x with OVF, great ISO, live view, etc, I will come back to Sony, if not I will just laugh at the meatheads who talk about the 500mm that is prices so that 99.9% of Sony users will never even touch one.

Refined optics are what I want – the current lens is an A-, and I want an A+ for this price.
