(SR5) Compact and video camera only for CES. But likely major stuff coming 3 weeks after!

There are two big electronic shows to come. On January 8th the CES event in Las Vegas and on January 31st the CP+ show in Yokohama. And I have been told that Sony will split their product announcements in two. At the CES show Sony will introduce new Cybershot cameras and new Camcorders. While they will likely announce new NEX and SLT products at the CP+ show.
I have been told the new Cybershot cameras are not really exciting. And I am yet not 100% sure which of the rumored SLT and NEX camera/Lens is going to be announced at the CP+ show and what is coming in April-May. As I told you the last few weeks we Sony is going to introduce:
1) four new A-mount lenses within the first half of the year (50mm Zeiss, 18-270mm DT, 70-200mm and 70-400mm). It’s very likely that the 18-270mm and the 50mm f/1.4 Zeiss will be introduced at the CP+ show (That’s SR4).
2) Two new SLT cameras will be announced within the first half of the year. Both APS-C, both with new sensor and features. The first SLT camera should be a low end model. it may be displayed at the CP+ show.
3) A couple of new NEX lenses are also coming. One could be the 85mm f/1.8 lens. Also likely to come at the CP+ show.
4) Still no 100% reliable news on the NEX front. But new I have been told a new entry level NEX is coming within the first half of 2013.
5) 100% sure, no FF NEX and no FF SLT within the first half of the year.
As I said, I am very confident that this is the NEX/SLT stuff that we will see the next few months. I am not yet sure about the exact timing also because sometimes I don’t know if sources actually send me the announcement period or the in Stock timing
What about the surprises? Yep, there is room for a new RX10 while major news should arrive the second half of the year. But that is still a rumor I have to investigate before I can be sure of that!
Feel free to spread the news! And to be sure to not miss any upcoming rumor join our Facebook community and s ubscribe the RSS feed (Click here) and Twitter (Click here) stream. Thanks!

6 months ago |Wasn’t there something on a 50mm Zeiss F/1,2?
admin
6 months ago |Nope, there will be 1.2 only. Sony developed a prototype like that. But it is not coming.

6 months ago |Like.. Not ever?
that sux a lot

6 months ago |why do u need a 1.2 aperture anyway?ask any pros whether they shoot at 1.2 . go on.

6 months ago |What happened with the mid-range fast zoo?
Should we expect something like panasonic 12-35 2.8 or Nikon 17-55 2.8?
Olaf
6 months ago |But Sony has the 16-50m that is only a year old. Why a new one?
Tim
6 months ago |Because it’s not better than the old Kitzoom and aperture is quite bad. a 18-70, 2.8 with great iq would be awesome!
Troj
6 months ago |Which old kitzoom? There wasn’t a kitzoom with a large F2.8 aperture throughout the range and neither the 18-70 nor the 18-55 can compete in terms of the other optical properties either. What’s so bad about the “aperture”?
Troj
6 months ago |Never mind, just realized you’re talking about E mount lenses, by bad. But a suggested 18-70 F2.8 will be very large.
Seeky
6 months ago |The 16-50 not better than the 18-55? Please explain the basis of your statement. My 16-50 crushes the 18-55. 50mm might be too short for your taste, but an 18-70 2.8 will be a beast compared to the 16-50 and is a quite unusual combination. I would love one though.
Seeky
6 months ago |Making same mistake as Troj….

6 months ago |The E-mount 16-50 is PZ design lens just like the pancake made by Panasonic for m4/3. Both lenses are just mediocre at best and nothing better than their 18-55 or 14-42 counterparts. I agree the E-mount system needs a version of the 12-35 f/2.8 benchmark lens.

6 months ago |18-70 2.8?are you on drugs?there is no 18-70 f/2.8!

6 months ago |*sigh*
Whatever happened to the proposed “G-Series” E-mount “high performance standard zoom” that was on the old road map to be released early 2013? I’m all for new lenses but it would be nice to have a decent zoom other than the two kit lenses we have now.
Jim
6 months ago |No clues what these compact and camcorders might be? We’re not all here just waiting for NEX FF and new SLTs. With Sony’s new IMX117CQT Sensor something massive is coming to consumer and no one seems to be talking about it.

6 months ago |Please let them annouce a high grade (G) standard zoom and telezoom lens for E mount. I`m fairly new to photography but I dont think we need that many more primes at the moment.
Joe
6 months ago |I’d respectfully disagree. I think a refresh of the Minolta 200mm f/2.8 or maybe something a little more ambitious like a 200 f/2 would be in order. I would like to see a refresh on the 300 f/4 for those of us who can’t drop 7 grand on the 300 f/2.8. I’d also like to see a 85 f/1.2. There is a huge gap in primes right now. Either we pay $600, $1500, or multiple thousands. There needs to be something more in the middle, as well as something good but not great closer to the top. If I want 300mm, I am looking at 7 grand, or I am looking at a Zoom. End of story. I could go and find a 20 year old Minolta Lens and pray the CA doesn’t kill me wide open.

6 months ago |Will Sony anounce also a 24mm somewhat lense? Or do they say “Hey, you got the uberexpensive Zeiss and get along with it”?
Would be sweet if they establish a middle class lense lineup in contrast to the high performance Zeiss lenses.

Rob
6 months ago |I’m curious about what percieved hole in the lineup will be filled with a new videocam. What size sensor will be used? Will it be 4k capable? Sony’s gotta get some affordable 4K cams out there – the 4k tvs have arrived at some Sony stores (although they are currently way out of my price range), and content is a significant problem. Upscaling may solve the availability problem to a degree – but it would helpful for a person to be able to generate their own native content! Also, as one pundit noted, using 4k is a way to “future proof” videos.
RickJ
6 months ago |4K is a non-issue for most companies right now, there is no content out and no-one is delivering 4k content over the internet either. They’re not going to bother launching a 4K camcorder so people can watch home movies.
Rob
6 months ago |You’re wrong on a couple of counts – there IS some 4k available – Sony will deliver it with a tv*. Also, there are a few 4k videos (just test example at present)available on YouTube**. Although the offerings are small in numbers, saying that none are available is simply incorrect.
Do you state that companies view 4k as a non-issue with the same degree of authority as you say there is no content available? I’d like to see the basis for that statement, if you don’t mind.

I remember you mention that a NEX-7 successor was due sometimes mid next year. Any news on that right now?
Thanks

6 months ago |Checked out a Sony83 inches 4k TV last week. Next to that I also saw some Sort of Enzo 50/60 inches 4k tv as well.
That was in Tokyo at Yodobashi and Labi.
Pretty expensive the big Sony at 16k euros.

6 months ago |Is there any further update on thew E-mount Zeiss 12mm wide-angle or 50mm macro?
Gregory Lemieux
6 months ago |Admin, when you state “there is room for a new RX10″ do you mean that there is a possibility it will be unveiled at CES (as it is in the Cybershot line)? I was a little confused by the rest of the sentence about “major news” later in the year. Am I correct in assuming the major news is not referencing the RX10?
Jonas
6 months ago |How many primes with OSS for nex are there?. Im doing videos mostly in low iso situations so zooms are rarely an option. I miss especially a wide angle prime with OSS.
Joel Richards
6 months ago |Jonas, I’m more of a prime shooter myself as well but if you’re really needing wide-angle lenses with OSS you might seriously look at the new wide-angle zoom. Aside from the slow (compared to primes) aperture it gets great reviews and seems to rival most adapted primes for the NEX system–plus it has OSS and is available now.

6 months ago |Forget full-frame NEX…. I would take a non full-frame Nikon d5200 over a full frame nex anyday if I wanted a “Small” camera that neither will fit in my pocket… We need better full frame alpha bodies and lenses !
