UPDATE: Images and text have been removed form the originial website!
Sony will announce the new HX9v and HX100v compact cameras on February 2nd. The HX9v specs have been already leaked and now we got the HX100v specs too! Sony Nordic posted them on his website:
“The camera incorporates technology not only from “Cyber-shot” series development but also from “Handycam” and the “a (alpha)” series
- DSLR quality with Manual to Auto, Higher resolution 50p Full HD movie & 3D in one body
- 30x Ultra high zoom H with Hi-speed AF, GPS & compass
- Equipped for Full HD movie shooting in AVCHD format
- Intelligent Sweep Panorama
- 16.2-megapixel back-illuminated “Exmor R” CMOS sensor, 27mm-810mm*1 f/2.8-5.6 Carl Zeiss “Vario Sonnar T*” lens, and “BIONZ” Imaging Processor for high-speed signal processing
- Movie mode supports 1920 x 1080 Full HD”
I repreat once again. Even if this is a non ralted Alpha or NEX news it will be very interesting to see the two most exciting features those cameras will bring. Ultrafast 0.1 sec contrast autofocus (as fast as the Panasonic GH2) and the incredible 1080p60 (or 50) 28mbit/s video recording!

2 years ago |It looks like the equivalent to the old DSC-R1, which is an excellent camera overall. In the context of taking family pictures or vacation photos, this new model should put out incredible results for a fixed lens.
In fact, in the right hands, one could get just as good, if not better results than many of these whiners, even with their imaginary A77 or whatever they keep wishing for. (the can of worms has just been opened)

2 years ago |Yup, you opened it. While I am sure this camera will be sufficient for many people, I doubt it will have an APS-C sensor, so I would like to see how you’ll get better results with a tiny one and an all-purpose 30x zoom
Otherwise it looks good and it will be interesting to see if what we see there is an EVF.

2 years ago |Of course it’s an EVF, Sony have used EVFs on all their high end superzooms, and you can’t make an optical viewfinder that will work with a 30x (or more) zoom.
I can’t see any similarities with R1 (except both being cameras). The R1 was a high end bridge/dSLR-replacement while this looks like a typical P&S-oriented superzoom just like HX1, H7 etc. Btw, nothing wrong with that. Sony’s superzooms have been fun cameras with lots of automatic functions, but low on high end features like hot shoe, RAW-support etc.

2 years ago |Thx for that. Just checked the images. But if I was to buy a compact superzoom, I think the FinePix HS20 looks much more promising (opinion based completely on available specs and photos, of course) (http://www.fujifilm.com/products/digital_cameras/s/finepix_hs20exr/).

2 years ago |Yet another piece of plastic that is supposed to impress on paper and probably will deliver less-than-mediocre results: It probably has the same overcrowded 16MP sensor that Fuji is using. since it is a P&S-size sensor: Make the sensor 8MP and it might be able to deliver decent picture quality.
If it was not for the lens that I would expect to be abysmal: From others (Olympus, Fuji) we already know that lenses with more than 10x zoom (no, make that 5x) don’t deliver decent quality at any focal length.
An equivalent to the R1? This one will come not even close; it is more like a modern-day Instamatic. Built to impress with many stickers in the front, but not suitable for photography.
What a waste!

2 years ago |I’m concerned with a few things. The lack of hotshoe meaning no external flash support; the size of the sensor (1/1.8″ or 1/2.3″?); body construction (plastic or metal?); RAW capture support; rear panel and EVF resolution.
The other thing: Sony tends to regionalize its DC models so that there’s no selectable NTSC/PAL support. In other words, for movie recording, output is either 25/50 (P) or 30/60 (N). Very bad gesture so to speak (second to Panasonic, which does the same treatment to its DC models).

2 years ago |A few are easy to answer. The sensor can’t be 1/1.8″ as the lens would have to be gigantic to support anywhere near the quoted zoomrange. Superzooms from Sony have always been plastic and it has to be to keep the price down.

2 years ago |Also no word on what battery it’ll use. The HX1 has a G lens. Last superzoom model that had a Carl Zeiss branded lens was the H50/H20.

2 years ago |I think the SP 28Mbit AVCHD Full HD 1080/60p (sorry the name is quit long) becomes the standard of TX100v and HX100v.
What’s tempting me is the Vario Sonnar T* names and makes me reflect on R1
If the sensor can be larger instead of 1/2.3″ Exmor R CMOS, it will be a true competitor for EVIL
