(SR5) First image of the new NEX-3n!!!

As you know on February 20th Sony will announce the new Playstation 4. I am still not sure yet but there are “signs” that Sony may will “use” the huge interest created for that event to introduce new Sony cameras too. And one more evidence supporting this rumor is the first leaked image of the upcoming new NEX-3n we just got via an anonymous source. We have been told that it will share the same 16 Megapixel sensor of the current (and yet discounted) NEX-F3. The one major difference you can see on the image where there is a zoom control button that will electronically drive the 16-50mm PZ and the newly announced 18-200mm PZ lens. No other specs are yet known.
One more thing: The other cameras Sony will announce soon are the SLT-A38 and SLT-A58 But we can’t confirm yet if they will be announced in late February or in early April (there will be another announcement by than before the NAB show). No SLT-FF cameras are coming this year as Sony decided to focus their efforts on the NEX-FF development.

4 months ago |I agree, we really need a 300mm or a 400mm. 300mm is a basic and a must for interchangeable lenses system, it would be definitely marketable, most of the people grab a LA-EA is due to 200mm is not good enough for shooting wildlife or sports like soccer closed up.

Anywat, I was just dreaming if the nex6 and successor of nex7 actually came with the new SEL35f/1.8 as default.
Most of the nex6 reviewing websites using the PZ16-50 on their tests and not saying anything about the true performance of the camera with 35f/1.8 or 50f/1.8

4 months ago |That’s the beauty of SLT, it works like a DSLR and can be a P&S when needed.
Sony just doesn’t capitalize in the marketing. Good lenses too. I have 5D3/6D and my wife hates both those cameras because you have to look thru VF. May ditch all that old school crap if A78 is killer. I would get a NEX-6 if they had an E-mount lens like the 16-105. For now, F3 is the best value to stay in the NEX game.

4 months ago |I think I may get another Nex-f3 cause I cant really see the point of this new camera. I was able to use my nikon/any flash with my F3 but now without the smart port I wont be able to do that. I always buy cheap body and mid to pro quality lens because in the end it will look just as good as any of the higher end nex cameras. The good thing is the f3 price will drop even lower.
The Lotus Eater

4 months ago |Point is that its not comfortable to use with such a lens. I personally don’t give rats about NEX line. They could release a telescope with E-mount for all I care….
For me, as long as A58 will perform well i’ll buy it, maybe even A78. I’m hoping for PDAF on sensor instead of SLT design, but thats probably wishful thinking.
Wayne Summers
4 months ago |I actually used the smart port with a 3rd party hotshoe adapter with a nikon flash. The most important thing is the person behind the camera then the lens then the sensor. You can get pro pictures with any nex camera with the right lens. I use my sony cz lens on my F3 and was praying they would just put the hotshoe on the new nex-3 but I guess its not gonna happen.
Mno
4 months ago |I prefer to stick to one lens at all times and switch camera body depending on the circumstance. That way I can take advantage of different crop factors instead of bothering with zoom lenses.

4 months ago |And the whole point of an interchangeable lens camera is to be able to change lenses to whatever suits your needs. Why have just small compact lenses? Sony should make faster bigger lenses as well. No one will force you to buy them, you can stick to your pancakes. Deal with it.

a65 Owner
4 months ago |For me it is speed of autofocus. I need a system that works well as a kid chaser. The NEX-6 seems like an improvement but still falls short of an SLT. I have no doubt that the technology will eventually get there, but it may be a few more generations.
The ergonomics are also a factor. The little body + big lens dynamic of the NEX results in a system that isn’t comfortable for me to hold.
I took my a65 + 18-250 on last year’s family vacation (zoo and a couple of theme parks) and found that the size wasn’t bad given the flexibility that the package offered (great range, quick AF, burst shooting, GPS, etc). My wife also didn’t mind using it when my daughter and I were on a ride or something.

Stan
4 months ago |I agree on the big lenses part… The whole point in NEX is for it to be compact, which in turn means shooting with pancakes sized lenses. Whats the point in a NEX with its huge 18-200 lens? It defeats the whole point of a NEX camera and makes it not as comfortable as say even A33/A35/A37/A55, which have the smallest body out of all Alpha SLTs.
I find A57/A65 to be perfect in size, with A77 approaching “too big”.
Stan
4 months ago |Don’t know about Rob, for me it was egronomics of the full sized body. Unless you’re shooting with pancake sized primes, i don’t see much point in buying a NEX except for it not having a mirror.
Joel Richards
4 months ago |It will have the same size batter either way. I hope the grip on the FF-NEX will be a little bigger so that it can take the batteries from the A99 or something similar. The FP50 or whatever will be fine with power needs of this model and its intended users.

4 months ago |I think as a ’3′ series camera this makes a lot of sense–as long as it is actually sold bundled with the 1650PZ which is a P&S zoom. While it won’t work for the majority of readers here I think it will help differentiate the now sprawling NEX line of camera bodies much better than the F3. The ’3′ series is now clearly marketed towards the P&S crowd so while I love my original ’3′ I personally would never consider buying the 3N but I think it has a clear and better purpose.
Neo NiGHTS ®
4 months ago |I’d like to see an 16~105mm (even 135mm) for the NEX, and also a fast zoom (16-50mm F2.8 or a 24-70mm F2.8).
But I bet that when/if Sony does release lenses like those (as well as a 70-300mm) people will complain:
“Whats the point of releasing those big lenses? Nex should be small and pocketable. If I want bulk, I’ll carry a full size DSLR” and so on….

4 months ago |how about instead of putting out body after body and replacing the 18-200 lens every year or blurring yet more prime focal lengths with similar new lenses they start doing unique focal lengths and creating the lenses they are still missing from the lineup?!
We NEED a 70-300 (or 400 if possible) ASAP!
We need a decent 18-105mm type lens (like the Canon and Nikon SLR lenses)
85mm (ish) macro?!
Or how about just some actually wide aperture lenses?! You can’t go round bragging about a system with just 2 wide-aperture lenses available after 3 years!
Lenses create the system, not the bodies! We have the bodies already!!!!

dro
4 months ago |yeah yeah.. but a nxt gen sensor usually means an improved iso and dyn range.. it would be sick!
Rooru S.
4 months ago |So, looking at this, we can confirm Sony wouldn’t offer their accesories for the NEX-3N, even the larger flash unit. This means either, they’re going to drop a little more the introduction price for this camera or they don’t have a clue what to do for a new model. Hope that zoom lever doesn’t come for higher end models unless you can customize it and set it to change aperture or shutter speed or something like that.

4 months ago |Bigger than C3 and same grip (the F3 grip is perfect for me), plastic its cheaper than c3 and f3 and there is something weird about the screen…
Im only interested if they sell kits with pancakes lens and touchscreen and/or wifi.

4 months ago |andrea do you have any infos when the nex 7 successor is coming?
JesperMP
4 months ago |Personally I found NEX-F3 to be not exactly pretty, but the grip was more important to me than the looks. NEX-3N is a small step backwards IMHO.
I dont get the infatuation with designing the smallest mirrorless body (like the GF3/5 and EPL/EPM).
With exchangable lenses you need a bit of grip, and the lens plus body does not become much bigger when there is a bit of grip.
And …. a grip makes room for a bigger battery.

MdB
4 months ago |Well the F3 is the only ’3′ series NEX to date to have the port. They probably found that F3 buyers didn’t actually buy the EVF which is nearly as expensive as the body itself. Also as they move away from the NEX accs port, they probably can’t find room for the new multi hotshoe in the small body. They would probably find that having touch (which I will guess this has) would be more important to buyers than a port which makes the camera bigger, that they’ll never use.

4 months ago |Looking at the elevated ridge above the LCD, this version seems also a little bit bigger than the previous C3, though I hope not.
Just sharing my opinion regarding the NEX 3/5 cameras. I really wish Sony keeps these models lean, neat and modular, just as they were from the beginning. Even if it means you will have to add flash and EVF on your own. The NEX 6/7 should be the ones that have this onboard. That ought to be the differentiation within the NEX family.
The Lotus Eater
4 months ago |Sony better not be planning on putting that W/T lever on higher-end models. It will be completely redundant when mounting the majority of e-mount lenses.
