May 14, 2010 |The NEX has better specs and much more potential in terms of sales than this- not sure why they’re even investing resources into a camera like this.

May 14, 2010 |Well this camera by itself is nothing much to be excited about. It seems to have continued the progression from pro to toy camera as you guys have already noted. 14MP is kind of surprising for the entry level, but honestly a waste. 12MP would have been more than enough. It does look like they addressed the concerns of the too-small hand grip, which is a good move for Sony.
This release does lead me to believe that there will be more updates to the alpha line very soon, hopefully the a330 will get a similar update, but with HD video, perhaps as the a390? It would make sense to me to have the a290 be the new very low entry level model, then step it up to the a390 with some stronger features at a higher price point. Of course I am just guessing here, but that would be nice. If Sony can put an a390 on the shelf with HD video, 12MP APS-C sensor, geotagging, and a higher-res LCD before August I will definitely buy it.

May 14, 2010 |From all the information we’ve seeing so far it looks like there’s 2-3 new Alpha’s coming.
The first thing to note is that Sony have fixed the silly grip of the current low end Alpha’s which is a good thing. The bad news is that there doesn’t seem to be any upgrades to its features. 2.5 fps? Come on it’s 2010! It will also probably get the current sensor from the A380 and everything else looks the same and I doubt it will shoot HD video either.
The A390 or whatever it will be called will most likely shoot HD video. The question is, what sensor will they put in it?
As to why Sony keeps taking features away from its entry level range is a head scratcher to me. The A200 looks better when compared to the A290.
Hopefully they’ll bump up the feature in the A350 and A380 replacements and give us something decent.
Cheers

May 14, 2010 |Sadly, Sony continues its march straight into the photographic toilet.
Unless the a700-replacement is something spectacular (which seems soo unlikely), they’re sunk, as far as enthusiasts and semi/pros go. :/

May 14, 2010 |What i heard is..this is not the promised model they been talking baout…n in my opinion this is just a230 re-designed body..as we all knew..the current entry level model has too much complaint about the hand grip. As a380 is discontinued too (in Singapore at least) there’s must be something coming ….CMIIW

May 14, 2010 |The funny thing is that the a230 with the 10MP ccd has better IQ than the a380 which has the 14MP sensor that will go in this camera.

It would make sense if that were true because most people still think more MP makes a better camera, especially coming from the P&S world. Also, this would make economic sense for Sony to use up the lower quality sensor on their low-end cameras and start putting something nicer in the next level up camera. Keep the low-end crappy and the higher-end well, higher-end.

June 3, 2010 |What a joke, just the 230 with a higher MP, larger grip, and slight body tweak. Sure wish the 450 was available here in the States, or that they’d release something similar to it, instead of trying to blur the line of P&S and DSLR. More menu diving = P.I.T.A. My guess the 390 will be the same thing as the 380 just with a slight body adjustment. Lets hope the Mid to high end releases dont get watered down into a waste of money.
