10 months ago |LOL – the animation is just epic
But yeah it IS like it’s shown – to get almost 1d mk4 for $1300 is quite a deal, don’t you think

Good A65 pictures. Nice to see details.

10 months ago |Nice to see more detail of the A65! Apparently, they changed the screen of the A65 to differ more from the A77…One of the first pictures of the A77 and A65 showed the same hinge system for the screen!
And I still (can’t) don’t believe the 50mm will come with OSS…but it would be nice of course!! (all lenses with OSS have OSS markings on the lens…the 50mm doesn’t…)
I’m watching SAR also more then ever

10 months ago |Ya know, I’m an Apple Fanatic from the late nineties when it hurt to love Apple and defending the fruit was a daily exercise. But you camera people…you’re something else. I love my A55 (soon to be A77) and Fujifilm X100, but I’ll never understand the snarls and squints from Canonikons. Nuts.

10 months ago |I’m a Nikon owner (D7000, 17-55 2.8, 35 2.8, 10-24 3.5+, 50 1.8, 70-200 2.8, SB900) and yet I love what Sony are doing to the market! It’s exciting to see a company pushing photography forward with new technology and an awesome price, so please, don’t tarnish all Canon / Nikon users as being haters!

10 months ago |Interesting, dolby license behind the fold away screen of the a65. Would it be just to get the best sound quality with dslr film recording?

10 months ago |where is the second wheel?
I was tempted to be tempted by the A65 but the lack of second wheel is a deal breaker for me.
too bad.

10 months ago |A65 looks like a nice camera but what I don’t understand is why Sony placed the wb, display etc features on the AF dial. I think it’s far more logical to use the FN button for that, just like on the a5xx models.

10 months ago |So do the 65 and 77 use the same battery grip, I’m confused because the 65 looks to be a fair bit smaller? :/
Ivars
10 months ago |of course NOT. they are different sized. The question is will there be original grip for A65. i suspect that there will be none.

10 months ago |Although these cameras are undeniably great, Sony’s marketing is pretty stupid I have to say :/
I mean look at Nikon and Canon, the market leaders, when they release a camera, do they release ‘a slightly worse one’ alongside it?
Just look at Sony’s line-up
Amateur cameras:
a290…a390…a33
Mid range to enthusiast:
a55…a560…a580…a65…a77
Pro:
a850…a900
And for comparison, Nikon
Amateur:
d3100…d5100
Mid range
d7000
Enthusiast
d300s…d700
Pro:
d3s…d3x
Canon:
Amateur:
1100d…600d
Mid range:
60d
Enthusiast:
7d…5dmkii
Pro:
1dsmkiii…1dmkiv
Id say Sony have 25% more cameras out than necessary, in my opinion it should just be
a290…a390…a35…a65…a77…a900
To me that should be all Sony needs, this way there’s a definitive gap between the target markets, unlike now where the line between them becomes a total blur. Also the cameras really do need some differentiation, I mean the a850 and a900, 2fps and a slightly bigger viewfinder, a560 and a580, more fps and 1080p video, as is the case with the a35 and a55.
Releasing the 77′ along with the 65′ seems pointless to me, unless they’re cutting the 55′s production? to have 3 cameras with such similar specs out all at once seems pointless, Sony must be hungry because they’re eating a big chunk out of their own market!
Just my two cents

10 months ago |Sony’s aim is to be the market leader not follower, thus, has to be a bit different than others IMHO.
Like the crazy animation!!!
Rob
10 months ago |Well look at the latest poll results, hardly anyone wants the a65, sony eating into their own market point proven

10 months ago |The a65 is a different class of camera from the a77. I think at first everyone thought it was going to be a slightly lower-end a77, but looking at these photos it’s obvious that it’s more or less a shoe-in for the a55′s position. I have a feeling the a55 will be gone soon, along with the a290/390, and then Sony’s (SLT) line-up will look a lot less muddled. a35 -> a65 -> a77 (and eventually -> a99). All those cameras are sufficiently different in feature-set.

10 months ago |I agree to some extent regarding redundant models but you could at least use the same categories for sony as you did for canon/nikon. so, if you add the a66/77 to the line up they have right now on their page (http://store.sony.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/CategoryDisplay?catalogId=10551&storeId=10151&langId=-1&identifier=S_Digital_SLR_Cameras), it looks like this:
Amateur:
a390 a33 a35
Mid range
a580 a55 a65
Enthusiast
a77
Pro:
a900
It isn’t a lot actually. Then if you split up between mirror and conventional DSLR, it is even less.
To me, canon is the worse in this regard. Look at their DSLR lineup (http://usa.canon.com/cusa/consumer/products/cameras/slr_cameras), there are 13 cameras, 6 being rebels.
Also, a65 is different enough from a77 to warrant its existence. I mean, not everyone needs the features of the a77 (weather sealed alloy body, 12fps, 1/8000s, etc.) nor its additional expense over the a66.

10 months ago |Well, I think the A65 substitutes the A55. Maybe it fills the gap between A77 and A55. I would definitly prefere the A65 over the A55, for higher sensor resolution and microAF adjustment capability, plus better energy management (as seen on the A35). I think it is very well suited as a second body for professional/enthusiast use.
For myself the A77 is the choice: Better AF module, microAf adjustment is what counts for me. If the A65 would have had the sensor of the A35, AF module of A77 and micro adjustment, it would have been a very interessting alternativ. The sensor resolution of 24MPix is not the issue, unless Sony use a different non-Bayer sensor (similar to the Sony F65).

10 months ago |All in all, Sony does a good job sometimes at giving cheaper alternatives. Look at NEX 3. Does it sell far worse than NEX 5? How about a850 sales figures? Could the market really ignore it?
Ranting is good, but money talks. Whatever makes money is what makes the world go round.

10 months ago |What means “manufactured under the license of dolby laboratories” at the back of the camera, behind the tilting screen?

10 months ago |Meaning dolby stuff is inside it, perhaps some chips.

10 months ago |I am so disappointed now that I can see that Sony has kept the AF button where it is on the a55. I was going to buy the a65 purely in the hopes that the AF button would be moved to where my thumb can actually touch it. Anyone out there that actually focuses with AF button instead of the shutter button knows how superior it is. To throw that button down low is like saying they don’t think anyone will actually use it. I guess I will just keep my a55 and keep my thumb as limber as possible. Not to mention the fact that it’s surrounded by a dial that takes me into other functions. They should try recessing it so I have to use a paper clip to press it too.

10 months ago |I didn’t like thia animation. I own an A850 but right before that I have been the happy owner of a Pentax K7 and beleive it or not, that full frame of Sony feels like a toy when it’s compared to the construction of the Pentax. Sony still have some lessons to learn from venerable brands like Pentax (see the K5 results with Sony’s own sensor). I see a lot of disrespect and lack of humility in this animation, not even mentioning other brands like Olympus or Nikon… (it’s true that I’m not really inclined to love Canon’s products either).
And before you ask… I didn’t keep my Pentax because I didn’t have the money to own 2 cameras. I chose the full frame. But if it was for 2 aps-c, I would have chosen the pentax (or a Nikon)… with no hesitation. Too much toys in sony’s line-up.

10 months ago |Even as a Nikon owner, I am rooting for Sony. I had the a55 for awhile, and thought it was a great camera. The only reason why I sold it was because of the ghosting issue, which I initially thought was not going to be a problem (turned out to be a big enough of an issue for me to sell it). I’m hoping Sony fixes the ghosting issue for the a77. Sony’s aggression will hopefully wake Canon and Nikon from their slumber. It’s good to see Sony innovate in one of their markets again.

10 months ago |Ghosting? Was that an optical issue with some lens? or all lens?

10 months ago |A65 maybe the dSLT replacement for A560/580. I am a bit hopeful it will accept A5xx batt grip. The way I see it it will be A35, A55, A65, A77 for complete APS-C line up. This ensure significantly difference between model.
