(SR5) New Flash with continuous LED light coming along the A99. Hot Shoe is “hybrid”
I am getting more rumors from Super trusted sources:
1) A new HVL60 flash is coming along the A99 in September and it will have a super unique feature. Continuous LED light which is perfect for video recording! He said that also the new A99 vertical grip has some unique features.
2) The new hotshoe will be IAS combines with ISO hot shoe, so that a99 can use both ISO flashes and IAS video accessories from Handycam.
More rumors coming in eveyr hour…I am working to post everything as soon as I can! P.S.: Help me to push the SAR fabeook site

10 months ago |You can already get its smaller sibling from B&H and others, albeit with another manufacturer’s name on it:

P.S.: This rumour is too blurry to have an SR5 sticker slapped on it, trusted source or not. No pictures, no precise details, no product name. Nothing. Everything seems to be based more on desire than on knowledge, and like in Hans Christian Andersen’s fairy tale where one feather became five hens, this rumour has gone from changing iISO to ISO, to miraculously having system wide compatibility with increased GN and video light.
I just hope they won’t change the hotshoe, and I may be in the minority looking at your poll results, but among long-time A-mount owners (i.e. loyal users) I guess the majority voted like me. If Sony want to include an adapter, let it be one that enables the use of ISO devices on iISO hotshoes.

10 months ago |its about time, we need a higher powered flash, especially with such a low performance in low light, the strobe should be our saving grace!

10 months ago |How about a 1/500-1/1000 flash with I.B.I.S. enabled?
The current 1/200 1/250 I.B.I.S. disabled kinda sucks for things like hummingbirds.

10 months ago |There’s a GN 58 flash, so what’s the big deal if this one is GN 60?
First of all, we don’t know if it is. Secondly, it could be the result of increased zooming – the 58 has a much lower GN at 24 mm than at 105 mm.

10 months ago |Make it a hybrid with iso, ias and iiso and i’m content. some people probably will own four generations of incompatible flashes (4000AF from The first series from minolta, 5400HS from 7xi to minolta 7 and 5600HS/hvl-56am etc to this bastard foot and then flashes for the iso/ias foot
Zane
10 months ago |Finally…3rd.
But seriously, i’m guessing with the focus on LED that the video capabilities of the A99 will be impressive.
Lets hope for manual controls & AF. It would be awesome if Sony increased the movie ISO to 25600 like the Canon 5Dmk3, hell even the incoming Mirror-less Canon EOS-M does video up to 12800, but I think the “light hit” from the translucent mirror may stifle this dream!!

lol. The only thing that is affordable is the camera body, luckily Sony did release a lot of it!

So they can loose money and go out of business to make the cheapos happy?

10 months ago |The flash with led for video light is just a blessing. If it gives soft light it will sell like hot cakes.
LifeStoryImages.com
10 months ago |“Soft” light is purely a function of the light source’s size, and the distance from the subject, in short, the angular coverage as viewed by the subject. Aa strobe sized LED light will be as “soft” as any other strobe-sized light source. To soften the light, attach a 10″ x 10″ softbox to any strobe. The results are nice, even better if you can tether the strobe by a cord or radio popper and hold it at arm’s length to the side when shooting people or other subjects within a room’s length distance.

10 months ago |Hi Andreas
Many thanks for the news.
However this A99 wonder is not reachable to most of us.
Would you have rather any news from super trusted sources about the NEX6 promise ? EVF quality for instance… any other information is welcome…
I guess that if you make a survey about topics of interest, more than half of the readers would be keen to get this model between the NEX5N and NEX7.
I just want to know if I keep my NEX5N or start selling it now
Thanks in advance

10 months ago |Oh……..I get it now!
The rest of us aren’t supposed to get any news from this site about “wonders” like full-frame Sony cameras and maybe alpha lenses also because you can’t afford to purchase.
daenur
10 months ago |2Cyr: Personally, I’d rather the NEX news was dropped from this site altogether, since it is not Sony Alpha. Maybe a separate website like sonynexrumors.com could cover that.
Frank
10 months ago |If there wasn’t NEX news then there wouldn’t be many updates at all. I prefer this site to cover 1″ sensor and upwards.
Hellven
10 months ago |Sorry but nex’s are alpha, my Nex-5 has an alpha logo on it, Alpha is aplied to any interchangeble lens system from Sony, SLR, SLT and Nex (this is on sony’s website)
but Cyr comment is just idiot
Cyr
10 months ago |@Hellven : what is idiot exactly Mr Clever ? The fact that I cannot afford to buy a A99 ?
Allan Olesen
10 months ago |Well, the NEX cameras are Sony, and they have the Alpha logo on the front.

10 months ago |I’d prefer it if the site covered both A-mount/DSLR/SLT and NEX. The systems are both branded Alpha, and more importantly, they are linked very closely in terms of hardware. A-mount lens news, for example, is relevant to both my DSLR and NEX/LA-EA2 combo.
Andrew Lynch
10 months ago |Daenur if you look on the front on a nex there is the alpha logo.
Plus what about the nex to alpha convertor LA-EA1&2?
Dulaney Ward

10 months ago |Found this link from “dm-accessories”. Can’t link from my phone. But in addition to Mino iISO…
“IAS, AIS and other “Hot” Shoes Sony has at least three non-standard shoe mounts, Active Interface Shoe (AIS), Intelligent Accessory Shoe (IAS), and “Sony Intelligent Shoe”. The Sony Intelligent Accessory Shoe and Intelligent Shoe are both hot shoes based on the “ISO” universal shoe standard. Be sure to check the camera which kind of shoe mount it has. Most other camera brands’ hot shoe designs are based on the universal shoe design.”
Now I’d really like to stay positive here, but with the current state of compatibility confusion of protocols for Sony/Mino iISO, I wonder if this new system will bring order to chaos, or just more chaos.

10 months ago |I want to know A99 have upgrade image stabilization or not?
And A99 have touchscreen display or not?

Sky_walker
10 months ago |Now I wonder if I should sell my A77 and flashes already, before people figure out what kind of crap Sony prepared, or just wait a little bit longer till Sony actually brings a successor.
I also wonder if new flashes will be compatible with old for remote triggering (as this could save them – I’ll be able always to use them as off-shoe flashes).
Frank
10 months ago |Since Sony is already criticised for the iISO mount, it isn’t going to make any difference when the A99 brings something new. In fact, Sony might be praised by non-Alpha users for supporting ISO.
Sky_walker
10 months ago |Those criticising iISO are mostly ppl who don’t use it or those that have no idea about the fact that using standard hotshoe won’t suddenly make all flashes compatible with your Alpha.
Switching to standard hotshoe is like moving from metal lenses to plastic – some people think it’s fine, cause lenses will be cheaper and by this more accessible, but other see that it only may lead to more issues with gear then there was before, including issues with quick changes of units and situations where you heavily exploit your gear.
I really hope though that I’ll be surprised by whole new flash system that beats crap out of Nikon’s CLS – then I’ll sit happy and await for A77 successor. Cause that’s the only way I see making such change reasonable.
Steve
10 months ago |I guess if Sony needs to make changes to improve its product and gain market share now is the time to make changes like the old shoe. The mission of the DSLR/SLT camera has changed with the addition of video and the new technology of LED is changing lighting and everyone needs to look on the positive side; this change in the mount will require Sony to replace all of it current bodies sooner rather than later, both Alpha and NEXT!
Now if Sony would just change its lens cap so we could finely get new and improved lenses

10 months ago |The bright LEDs will help to assist AF in low light conditions, I presume. Just want to ask, which is better? Red light or white light in terms of AF assist in the dark? I mean, why is the AF assist light traditionally red in color? I know some canons comes with on body amber AF assist light. I think some even came with green light. But predominantly it’s red on virtually all external flashes. Why?
Having said that, I think having LED video lights on the flash is a very very nice idea indeed.
