(SR5) NEX-3 officially discontinued in Japan!
Last week I told you that the NEX-3 will be replaced by the NEX-C3 in April. And yet not even Sony Japan doesn’t make it a big secret anymore. They officially discontinued the NEX-3 (Source: DC.watch)! According to SonyAlphaRumors sources the new NEX-C3 will have a 16 Megapixel sensor (same as the NEX-5) and a new body design. 2 years ago |But the NEX-5 does _not_ have a 16 Mpx sensor, it has the same 14.2 sensor as the current NEX-3. Will the new C3 have the old 14.2 sensor, or the new 16 sensor from the A-55?

2 years ago |no, a lot of people believe in the dxomark data. If the new nex-3 has the same sensor as that found in the A55 and A580 (as well as the D7000 and K5) then it would be a real selling point for the nex. This sensor is a significant improvement on that found in the nex 5.
There’s still a lot of room for development of the nex camera line up, I’m sure this year will bring a lot of changes.

2 years ago |dxo-mark is not the most reliable source available..if you know how to closely read dxo-mark, you will notice they are from time to time dead wrong..(and not only with the sony line-up btw..)

2 years ago |when dxomark says that a k20d performs better than a canon 5d mkII than i really start to have some thoughts about a lot of things on dxomark..however, this site is very much appreciated by camera-measurbators though, LOL!

2 years ago |When shooting video I want a sensor that doesn’t overheat like the one in A33 & A55 (that’s why I’m afraid of using that sensor in the future nex), better image in low light (maybe pixel binning), usable internal microphone for concerts and the sound autogain problem solved. I also want a way to start recording a movie with the remote (and of course an ir sensor). I would like an quieter shutter for some situations (although i love the sound and feel of the current one). For usability either an external dial with all the shooting modes (including the special ones like hdr) or a touch screen (touch and focus would be so cool). Maybe a tiltable screen also. And bug fixes (like when you want to shoot hdr and raw is active) and small improvements. All these are some of the more important wishes. There are more of course like better availability around the world and such.

2 years ago |The 16-mpx sensor is not a problem even in the A33/A55, if you turn of SSS. Since the NEX cameras do not utilize SSS, they should have no problem with overheating with the 16-mpx sensor

2 years ago |A lot of people buy into the MP myth. At the same time, the new 16mp Sony sensor is GREAT with noise and dynamic range. I would love it if the new NEX cameras had it. The current sensor is no slouch. It’s the best sensor on any camera in this range (NX, Pen, Panasonic), but the sensor on the 580 is just cutting edge right now. It’s the main reason why the Pentax k-5 produces such great images.
I personally think though that they will use the old sensor at least on the new NEX-c3, and maybe use the newer sensor on the NEX-c5. Kind of like what they’re doing with the A33 vs the A55.

2 years ago |Frankly I will be a bit peeved having spent money on a NEX-5 kit if the NEX-3C has a 16Mp sensor. That is a bit like a stab in the back for NEX-5 owners IMHO. OK if it inherits the 14Mp sensor and an NEX-5C then comes out with the A55/A580 16Mp sensor. I agree that the 14Mp sensor is good anyway.

2 years ago |I m agree, sensor is one of the best u can find at this level of price. For me more important improvement could be autofocus speed and of course battery life !! and improve the feeling of the nex-C3 in the hand

2 years ago |I know it’s hard to design for a camera as small as the nex but it would be great to have in body stabilization. This was one of the reason that made me switch from Canon to Sony 2 years ago.

2 years ago |I own a NEX 5 and Sony need to greatly improve the video. The video from my Canon HF-S100 video camera is far sharper and captures much more detail when I did a side by side comparison. The video from the Panasonic GH2 is now the new benchmark for video from a stills camera.

2 years ago |i dont think the nex-c3 will install the same 16 mpx sensor as with the A55. It will make the NEX-5 instantly outdated for the market.
It should just be same NEX-3 sensor with new body and control scheme.

2 years ago |I think this news has only this meaning: Japaneses didn’t like the NEX-3 body, so we will change it a little bit for them, but the rest of the world will still get the old NEX-3 body.
