(SR5) Sony NEX goes Full Frame!!!!
.
.
.
This is a very short but almost revolutionary rumor…
I just learned via (many) trusted sources that the third revolution from Sony is about to happen. After the SLT and NEX introductions (first two revolutions) Sony is about to change the photographic and video industry with the third revolution… a new Full Frame NEX system!
I am now working on the details of that “revolution”. If all works fine I will have some news to post about it within the next days. I want to be 99% sure about what I am going to post here….so dear sources send me all the info you can at sonyalpharumors@gmail.com or use the anonymous contact form on the right sidebar…Thanks!
As usual with rumors keep your expectations low and be aware that this is a rumor based on mysterious sources and NON-facts. Keep also in mind that I have been told this is just a “Start” (whatever it means). But this may be the first time I believe Sony could seriously compete against Nikon and Canon and Leica in the Full Frame world. Canon C300? Nikon D800? Leica M9? Hmmm, Sony may (very) slowly catch them all
Stay tuned on SAR! Working within all my free time on rumors now! Please write precise questions within the comment system so that sources can read and answer them. I know the first question will be…is it possible to have a Full Frame sensor on a NEX mount?

Thank you all, a very tired and overworked Andrea (SAR admin).

Reminder (SR = Sonyrumor):
SR1=probably fake rumor
SR2=rumor from unknown sources
SR3=50% chance it is correct
SR4=rumor from known sources
SR5=almost certainly correct!

11 months ago |If they were smart, Sony would release this with three Zeiss primes. Wide angle normal and portrait.
Sahaja
11 months ago |In fact make that: revive and update all the Zeiss lens designs made for the Contax G2.

11 months ago |The flange distance has to be changed and so do the mount. No matter in terms of business points of view or optical.

11 months ago |It will be interesting to see how they work out that issue. I would love to use my old Nikon glass with a little camera like this. Even the aps-c nex cameras feel like all lens no body. This camera will be even more front heavy. I also don’t think current Sony lenses produce and image circle that is large enough for ff.
If this rumor is true it will be interesting to see how this all plays out.

11 months ago |I foresee Full Frame Russian Jupiter glass going up in price and getting harder to find.
The M10, with it’s movie mode, EVF, and live view, is going to look like an expensive Nex. Could it be that Leica becomes a lens company only?
Canon had a chance to do this with their EOS-M, Sony has taken up the challenge, it’s all good.

11 months ago |The NEX 600mm and 70-400G lenses must fit in a shirt pocket. Or smaller to be appropriate for NEX.
Been out all day on a photographic foray in a natural area, How about the rest of you?

11 months ago |For the shirt-pocket crowd Sony already make the RX100

11 months ago |Hmmm, will Sony produce an Nex 8 FF 24megapixels and Nex 9 FF 36 megapixels. In near future, I trust sony technology will bring high megapixel to low noise. : )

11 months ago |A FF Nex, sounds great. This is just what I am looking for. When do you think this will come out end of next year?
My problem is that I am a pro photographer and I am about to upgrade my two 5D2 cameras, I will probably go for the 5D3, but I would like to have a Nex as my back up and weekend camera. I am sick of carrying two heavy camera bodies with me, I wish there was an adapter that allowed me to have full usability with my canon L lenses. ( Focus as well) Saying that, if the Nex 6 is good I will buy one for the weekends and the 5R for my wife. I want some fun cameras, the Canon 5Ds are for work.
Anyway the NEX couple of weeks should be good. Who knows if Sony plays their cards right, myself and lots of other pro will be shooting with them. I would love to have a A99 and a nex 7 with phase adapter in my bag.
I’m getting a bit tired of canons, specially when they bought out the eos M?

11 months ago |Nobody has mentioned it, but I think it is highly probable that this full frame NEX(-9 ? ) will use the same sensor as Leica M10, with offset microlenses. Leica has to insist on that in order to enable its old lenses work well on digital sensor and Sony would be wise to use it in the same way. This could be THE camera for legacy glass. Cross fingers…
As for current NEX APS-C lens compatibility, they could enable it via adapter and use cropped part of the sensor, that’s not the problem.

11 months ago |I was so hoping for this! And the best thing about SONY going FF the first (after Leica) is that they are the gods of compactness and are able of making the camera so much smaller than the M9
Edgars
11 months ago |It seems everyone have something to say about FF NEX.
I still didn’t understand the rationale of FF sensor for compact camera system.
Denis
11 months ago |Compact very high quality lenses (if sensor is done properly), that’s it
Bengt Nyman
11 months ago |The main rationale for a FF NEX is image quality, not body size. The next step in image quality requires that we get rid of mirror focus inaccuracies and mirror slap. The Nikon D800 focusing problems prove the point. The remaining challenges for mirrorless are a top quality viewer or magnified-LV and fast, accurate image sensor autofocus. It seems Sony NEX is showing the way.

11 months ago |It would be a dream: I have Canon FF system and Olympus OM-D for compact solution. If I could have a NEX full frame with EVF and focus peaking, I will probably sell everything and buy just this one with a couple of AF zooms and Leica primes with adapter. As said, it would be a dream…. Let see. Devid

11 months ago |I will keep my NEX7 and use it for telephoto shots. I get a free 1.5x multiplier when using the 7. The main attraction of the FF NEX will be getting full use of my WA lenses. I have a 21, 28, 35 and 50 that all get a little ‘robbed’ by the crop factor.

11 months ago |this doesnt make sense, its an SR5 rumor, meaning its almost certainly true according to your own explanation of the rumor rankings. but you say:
I just learned via (many) trusted sources…..
then you say:
As usual with rumors keep your expectations low and be aware that this is a rumor based on mysterious sources and NON-facts.

11 months ago |I answered many times the same question:
1) One thing is my rumor ranking based on my experience with sources:
2) Another story is the “meaning” of rumor. I have to remind you from a LEGAL point of view that I don’t take any responsability if for example you buy shares from Sony based on rumors or if a “rumor” turns out to be false.

You may remember when “Warning: Contents Hot” warning labels had to be enlarged because somebody ignored the original, albeit smaller, warning label and forgot that Hot Coffee is … well … hot. Likewise, you shouldn’t be surprised that you have to answer the same question about rumors many, many times.
On the other hand, you may find it humorous that the very people who harass you because they ignore your disclaimer about rumors are probably the same people who get burnt by hot coffee because they didn’t realize that hot coffee was going to be so hot.
David
11 months ago |No offense, but that is a terrible analogy.
Please, take the time to read the wikipedia article about Liebeck v McDonald’s (the case you are referring to) before you mock it. Everyone knows that coffee is hot. So is the sun. They are not the same degree of hotness. People have an expectation for the temperature of hot coffee. McDonald’s coffee well exceeded this temperature, to the point where it caused 3rd degree burns. The reason the warning was ineffective isn’t because the person couldn’t read it, or because the person was stupid and didn’t realize the coffee was hot, but because the coffee was abnormally hot, well exceeding a consumer’s expectations for “hot” in the context of coffee. When that happens, the manufacturer needs to take special care to explain the situation.

10 months ago |@David, No offense taken. At your recommendation, I reviewed the wikipedia article. Thank you. Here are some references you may want to review at your convenience. They are a little bit more robust than wikipedia, then again, what isn’t. There are plenty more, you just have to look.

11 months ago |I’ve been waiting for (and foreseeing) this since I got my NEX 7, and suddenly discovered that my M9 had found its new place on a shelf . . . I will purchase a 24×36 version of the NEX 7 IMMEDIATELY whatever the price tag will be.

11 months ago |Any good guesses on time-frame? I’m not crazy about a FF NEX but I’m looking at upgrading my NEX in the next year. Considering the 7 replacement but a FF would open up some great options.
Joel
11 months ago |I’m a Nikon system user (D800/D7000) with a full catalogue of lenses so I’ve clearly got a strong investment in that other company, but this rumour excites me a great deal.
If they can keep the body under $1500, give me a great EVF and somehow find a way to keep the 24, 50 and 85mm 1.8 primes (I really dont care for FF zooms on such a small body) under $500 a pop, then I’ll most definitely buy into the system as a daily walk-about / holiday kit.
This is precisely what Sony need to do to get us other guys on board. Excellent work Sony if this is true!
Eddie Argos
10 months ago |Imagine how gigantic the 24 1.8 for a ff would be!
Joseph
10 months ago |Crossing my fingers!!
Plz make an adapter for my Nikon rangefinder glass… I will buy this immediately as long as it works for all my primes from 21-135mm. 24mp at least. I will be in RF heaven. Hopefully with EVF with TTL viewing and focus peaking or something along that line…

10 months ago |Why classify as SR5 if “based on mysterious sources and NON-facts”?
Dan
10 months ago |A NEX-7-like FF. is what I’ve been dreaming for.
If it had an in-camera auto-focus and IS (by moving the sensor) it would be the perfect tool for using lenses made by others on it.
Just imagine how would be to have in-camera AF and IS on old Leica lenses…

8 months ago |FF sensor on a mirrorless body (big boobs on a slim frame): “Hhhhhyes!”
Could this finally be the muzzle for arbitrary Canon clowns? Or a Sony sideshow?
Omar
8 months ago |I hope this is true. I think this would be the best and kill Leica M9 for image quality and of course value. I would buy a FF Nex in a heartbeat. I also hope they offer it without AA filter like Nikon D800E. I am in the crowed that think no AA filter looks better. Finally I hope they improve the color over the Nex-7. Nex-7 takes great detail shots but the color is depressing, dark and full of brown and orange tones too much compared to M9, Nikon D800, and Fuji X series. Sony, fo full frame, improve the color, and drop the AA filter with 36 megapixels and you will RULE THE WORLD… for a little while at least.

7 months ago |Sony is cutting jobs but for some silly reason doesn’t want to add English to the menus of the cameras they sell here in Japan. It’s kinda sad. They could easily sell more cameras by just adding an English menu over here.
The new RX1 looks like a nice camera but I want a wide-angle lens so I will have to wait for the NEX-9 FF or what ever is coming out next. I hope it has a touch panel, it’s wireless and it comes with a popup flash like in the RX100 or RX1.
I bought the RX100 and I’m kinda happy with it but the pictures kind of have too much noise (JPG noise??). Black and white images also take a long time to process and purples always end up looking blue as well for some reason.
Any news on when their next lot of cameras will be coming out?
RX100: It is difficult to focus sometimes having the preview pop up onscreen after you turn the dial but then having to half press down the shutter button and use the wheel to find the areas you need to look at. Can we get an update to make focusing easier soon please?
