8 months ago |actually – NEX7 got quite decent update. In line, if not better then what Nikon gives usually in it’s firmware updates. There’s hardly any reason to whine, although obviously – there’s still a place for future updates.

8 months ago |A35 was not even released officially in Japan and Sony discontinued this model very quickly. I don’t think there is any hope for more firmware update unless it’s to fix any serious flaw…

8 months ago |Sony almost never releases updates for it’s cheapest cameras. No idea why the whining. A37 is one of very, very few exceptions where low-end model got firmware update.
Should have collected bit more cash for a camera.

8 months ago |Sony’s specs also claim an old NEX-5 can is capable to film 1920×1080 AVCHD up to “50p, 28 Mio., PS” – my can’t and it never got lens compensation either, while also 5N is history now and might also get specs soon it never really had…

Sony should also post firmware updates for the recently discontinued models A35 and especially the A55 to keep customers happy! The A37 must be much alike internally and that cam features focus peaking and lens correction! Sony please deliver focus peaking, lens correction for A35/A55 too! Post one ULTIMATE firmware update 6 monts to 1 year after discontinuation! (At least!)

8 months ago |I don’t see what’s the rant with the movie button on the A77… apart from the ONLY time I adjusted my diopter and accidentally pressed the movie record button, I’ve NEVER accidentally pushed the button in normal usage..

8 months ago |That is probably because you never pull the screen out by pulling the upper right corner.
But to a lot of us, this feels like the most natural way, since we have our left hand under the lens – and when pulling with the right hand, the upper right corner is the intuitive place to grab the screen.

Tried the action you’re refering to, but I still don’t understand why use the right hand instead of the left? It feels more natural, to me at least
Anyhow, I’ve ran the update for my 2470Z and 50 1.4, not changing the movie button function as I think it would be faster to use should the need arises.

But now I’m rest assured that if I ever find the need to deactivate the button, hey, it’s there for the picking!

With left hand under lens and right hand on grip, I can pull out the screen with my right thumb without moving my hand from the grip. I can’t do that with my left hand.

Then I actually had to think about the chances this FW can brick the camera and if it was actually worth the flash…
Alas, I did the flash… nothing new…
I was going to invest in the A99, but now I have to reconsider after this joke of an update. Sony and long term product support doesn’t seem to mix very well…

8 months ago |Yeah, I was talking about firmware update. The touch screen with no touch shutter was really a waste, touch screen wasn’t that helpful to navigate through the menus and sometimes you would end up using the touch screen accidentally, I just let that turned off all the time.

I get this window in the update application.
“If the camera is connected, this application cannot be initialized properly. Disconnect the USB cable.”
When I do the install app quits. Camera has to be connected and on for me to get this window. Mass storage is selected.

I was really hoping they would not do this again. I spent 45 minutes on the phone with Sony. The solution was to disconnect all other USB devices and then try connecting the camera to each different USB on my machine until I got the one the firmware wanted. It seems like ridiculously poor quality control to not fix this on the next firmware after it is discovered.

8 months ago |For those performing updates for their Sony camera who have never done it before and have newer computers, from past issues I have seen, do NOT plug the camera into a usb 3.0 port. Although your computer will detect the camera being plugged in there, the software update program from Sony won’t.
Of course who can try it in a usb 3.0 port and if yours does work then great. I just wanted to put out this lil tidbit for others who might run into this problem I have seen happen way too much. And could use this lil note to help save them more time.

8 months ago |I tend to think that this FW update is light, for the time between last FW update to this one (IMHO). Frankly, there are lots of documented requests that, i have to imagine SONY is connected and monitoring many of these (if not – they should be) – Voice of the Customer (VOC). Videos on YouTube, the Sony Hack website, this site, etc. I realize that some of those requests are dreams, but there are a few that would be nice to realize within the camera. In any event, coming from the A500 and going to A77 – i find it extremely refreshing to even get FW updates from SONY. So, thank you – but we would like more
