6 months ago |I’m really wanting to see how this performs compared to the Sony offering. Whereas the Sony will always be about $800, this lens will drop to $500 FAST. All Tamron lenses do.

6 months ago |Like other said 18-200 is a very popular lens, probably a sweet spot for price/performance. They could make an 18-300 which will be twice as big and they will sell a few only.Don’t forget, Tamron does not make any money from Sony 18-200 lens, Sony does.I for example will wait for price to go down and read reviews about performance, but if the lens reaches $500 and it’s not a dud, most likely will buy it.

6 months ago |18-200 sell well and Tamron already have lots of experience with this kind of lens, so it’s a no brainer for them. As you point out, it doesn’t fill a need though, so for us, perhaps their 17-50 f/2.8 would be far more welcome ? A 16-50 f/2.8 certainly would for me.

6 months ago |actually what Tamron must do , is to made a E-mount 17-50 F2.8 , 10-24 and the 70-300 lens ASAP , better before the sony one……. This 18-200 is just duplicate with the sony one…..

6 months ago |No. What Tamron MUST do is make a business case that people actually buy lenses for NEX. Enthusiasts bitch that the lenses are too big and the consumers that NEX was originally targeted will pretty much sit on the kit lens or buy a super zoom. They have to prove there is a market, then they can start rolling out the more niche products. Just because you want a 16-50 2.8 or whatever, doesn’t really mean there is a market for it. I mean the enthusiasts that patrol these forums are most often not the intended market. And remember that a 16-50 2.8 is going to be a lot bigger than the kit lens – if Tamron bring that out everyone on here who says that’s what they should release will go ‘oh it’s too big waaaah’ and the consumers will go ‘but I already have an 18-55…’.
They have to prove someone is going to buy lenses, starting with the easiest market – travel cameras.
