The real cause of the A77/A65 shipping delay is the flood in Thailand.

As you know Sonystores delayed the shipment of the Sony A77. For example SonyStore.com (Click here) removed the preorder option, Sony Uk (Click here) says the camera is “temporary unavailable” and both Sony Germany (Click here) and Sony France (Click here) say that shipment will start in mid-November.
But there was no official news about the real cause of the delay. I guessed that reason is the current firmware issues. Apparently I was wrong. I got some news from one of our very good top Sony sources. The reason for the delay is the flood emergency in Thailand. According to Bloomberg: “Sony Corp.’s factory in Ayutthaya, which produces digital cameras and lenses, hasn’t suffered major damage from flooding and is operating as normal, Yasuhiro Okada, a Tokyo-based spokesman for the electronics maker, said earlier this week.” But our source told us that while it is true that the factory has not been damaged the transport system of the region is completely stocking and most of the workers can’t even reach the Sony factory. Please share the news to all people that is waiting for the A77 and A65. It’s important that they know that it is not Sony’s fault if they have to wait 2-3 weeks more before to get the camera.

2 years ago |Sorry for my foolish question, does this delay also implies the pre-order units? Or it is just for the actual release units?
acolyte
2 years ago |Let’s say 1 month ago 20 people pre-ordered. Then 2 weeks ago another 10 pre ordered. The first 20 batch may be shipped, but the next 10 may not have finished production and is strongly affected by Thailand’s condition. If you have pre-ordered, it doesn’t mean your shipping will not be delayed.
For now, the best sympathy we can give is be patient instead of ‘that’s the prob of people who didn’t pre order! I did, so it’s not my problem’, which is how a lot are sounding here.

2 years ago |90% of Ayutthaya is now under water as well as half of Thailand. We’re witnessing a historic flood here. The 2nd horrific disaster of the year to Sony after Tsunami in Japan…
hanugro
2 years ago |Is this anything to do with the two typhoons recently that also strike Philipines badly?
lifeispixels
2 years ago |Partially yes. while we were not hit directly, the typhoons brought a lot of rain to this region. It has been raining almost everyday here non-stop for over 2-3 months now. The amount of rain the soil has absorbed is incredible and thus all rivers and canals can’t drain the flood quickly enough. I have been living here for 30 years and never before that it has been raining everyday like this for several months…

We have a really bad image of westerners and it would do all us a favor if you can sound more rational. Or would you like to trade geographical locations?

2 years ago |I do not see why “us westwners” would like to trade locations, or why “you easteners” would like to do it.
If people do not like the natural environment they can always move away.
Or otherwise they elaborate means and ways to overcome those problems. Sometimes that is not enough, like in Japan, and now in Thailand, but the resulting natural disasters should not be used as a way to accuse other people not to understand the tragedy going on.
When an earthwake devastated the city of L’Aquila, in Italy, a couple of years ago, and many died, no photo site wrote anything about it. Disasters happen also in America and Europe. And why should people be more concerned about natural disasters going on in Asia than in America or Europe? Why countries hosting industrial facilities where cameras are produced are more entitled than other countries to receive the public sorrow?
I am very sorry for all victims of this flood. At the same time I am also sorry for all victims of all natural and human cathastrophies of the world. But if I want to read and discuss about this, I will go to the appropriate sites, not Sonyalpharumors. Here I discuss about cameras. Here, in this site, the flood (or previously the tsunamy etc.) is mainly a camera issue. In other sites it is a very important geo-humanitarian issue.
This is the way I see it.

And this is a camera _rumors_ site, to discuss rumors, not ‘Andrea, tell Sony that I want my camera now!’ site. Not that most of the trolls even thinks if getting an alpha.
I don’t want to offend people – just.. For trolls to be more rational. To troll in some other post. Some people waste their brain juice for annoying things sometimes, so before it spread like a virus..
lorenzino
2 years ago |Yes, I can understand your point. It does not make much sense to write here or elsewhere that we are disappointed because Sony will not deliver as expected while natural (or human) phenomena are hitting the life of thousands of people.
OTOH, I wanted to stress the fact that this is not a news or humanitarian site either. So it is natural that, after paying respect to the victims of the events, eventually people go back to talking about cameras.
About moving away from the country, or region, etc: yes, I was being sarcastic, as no population in the world really wants to move away from its homeland. And after all: why would they? Humankind settled almost everywhere in the world, from deserts to the artic regions, because human culture helps in reducing natural problems. It is a matter of “getting adapted” to the environment. And this is valid for all world, not only for Asian countries (if Finland or Iceland are inhabited…). And many European and American countries are problematic as well (Italy for earthwakes, the USA for tornados, etc.)
So I guess we are all in the same boat, after all…

Billy bob
2 years ago |Don’t believe this article, it makes no sense. It’s delayed because of a flood and not the dozens of people around the world who tested a camera riddled with bugs and almost broken? You mean if there was no flood, the camera who be released into market when the focus points disappear, the dials are broke, the camera can’t accept 3rd party lenses, etc, etc, etc??? That’s complete bull! The camera is delayed because Sony can’t release a completely broken camera, people would not but it. This is their chance to compete in the high end enthusiast market, their not going to take a chance and screw themselves. Nikon & Canon own the mode range market, Sony must release a winner for people to even consider it, not broken high spec sheet of a camera.

And for you, who have never been affected by typhoons, monsoons, etc., you can get off your high horse and maybe just think about the lives being lost and disrupted in these countries. People are losing propery, the livelihoods, and even their lives and here you are with your fanboyism bashing Sony, nary a care in the world for the disconfiture of a significant amount of the world’s population.
