The Sony countdown: Only 10 hours to go!
Ready for the Sony DDAY? There are only 10 hours to go (Announcement will be made at 6-7am London time). I am constantly watching for leaks on youtube, stores and so on but there is still nothing. Did you find something? By the way, just saw that Nikon will announce new Coolpix cameras. And there is might a chance this this is all what we will see form Nikon tomorrow!
Meanwhile those are the poll results. Seeing the results the A77 is the most wanted new camera. The A65 almost earns no attention. And it looks like 15-20% of you will buy the whole package, A77+16-50mm+battery grip. The NEX-7 also “beats” the NEX-5N. But let’s see tomorrow if you really will confirm your shopping intentions!

2 years ago |My purchase is going to be determined by one thing…what’s the cheapest camera that gets me manual video controls over shutter speed, aperture, and exposure. I’d be happy if it was a 5n, happier if it was a nex7, and broke if its an a77. I’m making a short film, and as attractive as a gh2 is, the tech advances in the small size of the hx9 makes me believe that the nex 7 can do what I need, and the only reason the nex 5n couldnt would be because of feature crippling. The nex “peaking” feature mostly eliminates my need for a follow focus. That’s a $300 – $700 savings right off the bat. i had intended to build a pistol grip rig with a follow focus and an lcdvf, but if the articulating screen is good enough, I could conceivably reduce that to only a $20 opteka handle. That would be a major coup for the indie run and gun filmmaker. I will be super sad if the nex 7 doesnt have an auxilary audio input, but it wont be a deal breaker. but it would be nice to not have to sync audio with at least 1 nex body. Here’s hoping!

2 years ago |Sandra, I sold my 7d this week! I have never enjoyed using it, and the hx9 I purchased to go on vacation with to San Fran last month impressed me immensely, especially the 1080p 60fps. The nex5n and 7 have to be at least as good…manual controls in a small package, and its a done deal. Canon has it true, but overall, shooting with a nex body is a lot more comfortable than a 7d to me. That’s a fantastic camera, btw, but ive seen plenty of moire in that cam. More than in my hx9
In the end I have to choose my next camera on features that I dont have to do in post…exposure correction, re-rendering to 24p, syncing audio. I hope the nex 7 will do it.

I hope that too. The hx9 has definitely more resolution than the Canons but it’s not there yet. What did you do with the lenses from the 7d (if any)? That’s the main problem for me about switching to Sony (“digital” lenses can only be controlled from the body)

2 years ago |Sorry Sandro…i didnt read correctly! Well I had the kit lens as my only ef lens, the rest were manual focus (m42, c mount, fd mount, nikon). I am thankfully only losing one lens (28-135) in the changeover. But I totally understand reluctance by people with expensive lens collections. I can afford better manual (old) lenses than the same money spent on new lenses. The good news is that there are tons of great cheap manual lenses (f1.2 mamiya sekor was $50) on ebay, and i just need new adapters.

If those small cameras do 1080/60 then DSLR with dual processor must be capable of 4k/24fps.. pure math

2 years ago |4K? Heck I’d just settle for 1080p that could actually resolve anywhere close to 1080 lines. As it is now true resolution on the video mode of any camera can’t even max out 720p let alone 1080. Right now consumer sensors have to throw away at least 3/4 of the data (likely quite a bit more) to get the camera up to Warp 24.
It’ll also be interesting to see how it handles moire, if they can pull even with Panasonic I’ll be impressed. If not, mm, well maybe Mosaic Engineering can manufacture a filter for the Sonys

Ehehehe.. Andrea I’d rather make my decision after reading some serious tests on IQs and build quality.. On paper A77 and related stuff sounds really appealing.. We have to hope it doesn’t disappoint in real world use. After all.. it has to be a tool to take better photographs! Doesn’t it?

2 years ago |I voted none on the pole. The cameras that are the most interesting in this group are the NEX-5N and NEX-7. So yes I’m interested, but I would never say I’m going buy a camera sight-unseen. I will wait and see how they perform and whether they have the features I would require. And of course, I’d have to decide whether I really need a new camera and if I can afford one. Just seems like common sense.

I don’t see the LA-EA2 on there though, which I will also be wanting (if it does indeed support screw-drive).

So decision was to make A77 with more advance features for the price. I guess i will keep my A55!

im from malaysia, they will started by briefing/soft launching internally, and training/QnA/technical for staff/trainer/dealer. the full launching for media, blogger, special guest are at the evening.
willbo: actually, shipment has started, usually about 3 week to reach US shore, but custom clearance may take some time, distribution etc. so predictably will available online store in 6 weeks time.

but anyway, A55 replacement should be a bigger body, not the same A3 series entry body.
