FYI. Sony already close malaysia alpha production early this year. Most of them offered to work in thailand. I believe they are from SPE line. Something like that

3D video is no magic. It just records one 1920×1080 video, and produces two horizontally shifted images of the same frame for left and right eyes. Using the built-in converter of the TV, the two shifted video images will be displayed as 3D, using the shutter glasses supplied with the TV.

Tony : +1, it seems interface is the major and unique default of NEX cams.

Der Modus 3D Panorama ist ein abgewandelter Schwenk-Panorama-Modus. Auch hier macht die NEX erstmal viele Einzelaufnahmen, aus denen sie sich dann wechselweise die passenden Ausschnitte fürs rechte + linke Auge holt. Das funktioniert freihand und überraschend gut – die Beispielfotos auf dem 3D-TV sahen mit 3D-Brille jedenfalls sehr beeindruckend aus. Abgelegt werden die Fotos in einem offenen CIPA-3D-Format, betrachtet werden können sie vor allem auf 3D-Fernsehern.
Diese Funktion wird erst mit einer neuen Firmware verfügbar sein, die im Juli 2010 kommen soll

I will be very happy about the 3d video even if I can not imagine it is possible (OK ich höre auf, zu posten )

@at Yeah, I vaguely understand this 3D technology used nowadays in movies and although it’s a small step from what we’ve been able to watch up to now it’s a step forward and I would like to be able to shoot 3D videos even if I have to watch them with glasses – as in cinemas …

@JaccoW The omission of intelligent sweep panorama on the NEX is a big minus. I might get a HX5V as a second camera ( to E-PL1 ) just because of it. I doubt it can be implemented on current NEX cameras. HX5V uses its fast burst speed ( 10 fps @ 10 mpx ) to combine 100 2 mpx images into a lower resolution panorama than NEX’s. NEX has 5-7 fps 14 mpx burst and a different shutter technology ( its shutter can clearly be heard during those burst shots ).

wow…. firmware upgrades for NEX will be lovely! I wish they’d make such cool upgrades for Alpha DSLRs too… (last great upgrade of firmware I recall was one for A700 allowing ppl to disable noise reduction in RAWs)

But it’s good to hear that Sony won’t end like Olympus did Hopefully we’ll see some A700 successor this year… oh, and I demand my Zeiss 50mm!

Is anyone else less than blown away by the output seen so far? The lenses seem to be not the highest quality, at least to my untrained eye.

I hope that you will be able to do that. Someone has already used an m42 mount lens via the standard A to E mount adaptor that sony have made. In other words I think they had the A mount to E mount adaptor attached to the nex-5. Then they attached a m42 to a mount adaptor onto the lens. That is the expensive way of doing it (because you have to buy the sony A to E adaptor.

Hopefully very soon after the cameras are released someone will make an m-mount to sony E-mount adaptor which should be cheap as it will only be a “dumb” metal mount. Exposure and focus will be entirely manual. But there will be great joy at being able to use the quality and tiny voigtlander and other m-mount lenses!
