Two Good Morning News for you: A77 and Zeiss 24mm lenses are shipping!!!

A new week started and I am glad that I can share two good news:
1) The first batch of A77 cameras produced in Japan arrived in Asia. You can see a picture of the package (Click here) and a picture of the camera (Click here). It says “Made in Japan” and no more “Made in Thailand“. Now let’s hope Sony will also send them soon in Europa and USA too. Amazon Japan (Click here) now says the A77 will be back in Stock in two weeks. Check the A77 in Stock status at Amazon, B&H, Adorama, J&R, eBay.
2) Henrik sent me the screenshot you see on top to proof that Sony Denmark shipped his Zeiss 24mm f/1.8 for NEX lens! If you preordered the lens than you will might get it that week. Otherwise check the preorder info at Amazon, B&H, Adorama, J&R, eBay.

2 years ago |I hope I can get my hands on a “made in Japan” NEX-7 early next year. That would be incredible. Obviously anything produced in Japan will have better quality control over Thailand and China.

2 years ago |Why would something produced in Thailand have worse quality control? Have you ever seen the Sony camera quality control department in either Japan or Thailand to compare them?

2 years ago |Do you think a BMW or a Mercedes made in the US is as good as one made in Germany? Don’t be naive, host culture impacts output no matter what standards it is held to. My wife’s a production manager at a JP factory in Thailand (not Sony) and her best friend a QC manager. Having heard what I’ve heard, I sure would prefer a Sony cam from Japan or a BMW from Germany.

2 years ago |Hi.
The Japanese Camera and box are mine.
I purchased the camera recently, but the unit has been sat in a locked display case since before the Thai floods.
So I would assume it was made in Japan before Thai manufacturing started?
As far as I know, Manufacturing back here in Japan again hasn’t yet begun.

2 years ago |This isn’t the first time Sony (and other Japanese manufacturers) have made something likes this. It usually has happened two different things with some specific key products from this company:
a) To investigate and improve the assembly processes, and to have a tighter control of the components supply at the beginning, the first batches are made in one of Sony principal dedicated factories within Japan (“Made in Japan”) to later shift the production, move once assimilated a simple and standard model of production, to another associated factory (in this case “Made in Thailand”), leveraging assembly costs.
b) Keeping different lines of production (probably with different output volumes as well) in a way to satisfy different markets, and taking advantage of their existing infrastructure in place, easing the supply chain. From photographs I’ve seen, one of the firsts ‘SLT-A77′ with the caption “Made in Japan” sported the ‘J1′ denomination making reference to a Japanese Domestic Market (JDM) version.
It had happened with a lot of Sony products previously (PlayStation platforms, for example) and is obvious this approaches have been influenced by the problems derived from the flooding in Thailand, of course, but it isn’t necessary to assume an specific product is only manufactured in one place at a time.

2 years ago |Jan C, I believe your camera is a pre production camera. Nothing wrong with that, I would love to have such an a77. Don’t think sony will move their production of a77 or nex 7 to Japan but to an other location in Thailand.

2 years ago |Same I checked Amazon USA and no update yet. Also for some reason after I changed my shipping speed to 1-day it said that it would not be delivered until after the 25th. I hope that’s an error.

2 years ago |Hi Andrea, your Finnish links are still rubbish like has been all the time this far: eBay sells just dollar priced stuff (and no a77 there), Sony.fi knows only that “temporarily out of stock” and pixmania.fi has never heard anything like sony a77. Luckily there is several sellers to preorder and even having some body only or 18-55mm sets here
But if they pay you for keeping their links on your page, it’s ok to me

2 years ago |Hi Ollder!
The links are automatically generated. I am not getting paid by Sony or Pixmania to keep links. I thought it would be nice to link to finnish links when someone wants to check the status of some products in Finland. That’s it. Otherwise you woudl have links to German or US stores and I guess that’s not interesting for you or not?

2 years ago |Hi, not meant to make a big deal.
And in principle you are absolutely right. It’s good to get some domestic links to start. Thank you for that and sorry for my purposeless moaning. Sony at least is an official source, and probably those others get a77 when it finally comes to market.

2 years ago |Hope we can get a Nex 7 made in Japan as well. If that is the case, should we still pre-order? or shop when we can really select if it is MIT or MIJ?
