US instant rebates on the A55, NEX-5 and VG10 (replacements coming soon?)

There have been new instant rebates on the Sony A55 camera. As you know last week we told you that there could be a new A57 (or A65) announcement in July. And rumors from new sources do suggest that also the NEX-5 and VG10 could be replaced (more on that as soon as I get info from trusted sources). The very interesting note is that those deals do end on July 9. And our sources told us that there coul be a press release on July 7 ![]()
The following price drops in US may be a indirect confirmation that the rumor is correct! Here is the list of the price drops:
A55
You can get the A55 body only for $699 (-50$) at Amazon (Click here), Adorama (Click here) and BHphoto (Click here).
And there are also price drops on different A55 kit options at Amazon (Click here), Adorama (Click here) and BHphoto (Click here).
NEX-5
$50 price drops on all kits at Amazon (Click here), Adorama (Click here) and BHphoto (Click here).
NEX-VG10
$150.00 Instant Rebate on the NEX-VG10 double lens kit at Adorama (Click here).

The VG10 can be better. I am looking forward to the next one!

12 months ago |I agree JB. I’m also interested to see if the A77 and Nex7 can compete with the GH2 in terms of video. Sony took two steps forward in terms of video with their recent Cybershots. But they took one step back with the recently announced Nex. So I don’t know what to expect with Sony. I definitely don’t have my hopes up but I’m anxious. I really want to get the A77 but I’m worried that the video capabilities will be lacking.

12 months ago |Still a typical Sony promotion, though. The $150 off the 16mm has been in place since day one and has never changed. For the Nex-3, 5, or VG-10.
I have a waiting list at our store for the Nex-7 and A77 already. Here’s hoping all goes according to timeline.
Actually the camera we need to ship ASAP isn’t Alpha, it’s the HX100V. People are seriously getting impatient.

12 months ago |I hope the A55 replacement doesn’t loose the rear articulated screen like the A33 did.
As a cost saving measure the A35 is a design blunder. I think I read somewhere Sony left the articulated screen off to save $30 bucks. I would gladly pay the extra $30 bucks.
You loose the ability to frame creative shots. The solution to the lack of a rear articulated screen is to buy something like the Sony CLM-V55, an HDMI 5.5” WVGA Clip-On Monitor.

Oh wait, maybe theat’s the strategy behind nixing the rear on camera monitor – to get us to spend MORE $$$!!
I just hope the A55 replacement and the new A77 still have the rear articulated monitors.
Because of it I think physically, the A33 is a better designed camera than its replacement – the a35.

12 months ago |I think Sony did that on purpose to differentiate A35 from A55 and its sucessor but not to save 30 $:)
p.s. A33 vs A35. is there any other diffenece from OUTSIDE besides screen? I don’t think so

12 months ago |Where are the final specs of the A77? Don’t understand why the testers not give this kind of information..
What about the ISO start by ISO50?? 100% sure we can use CF on the A77?
No filp-over screen?

Anyone know how to buy HVL-f20s from Japan.
I scanned a few Japanese sites (including Sony) and what I understood is that it will be available on June 24th. Can this be true? Does anyone have any experience with buying stuff from Japan that ship overseas? Money is no issue.
Thanks
Jack

12 months ago |And please forgive me for being off topic, but have you seen any indication that the A77 or a future Alpha will have wireless connectivity?
Sony for Life
12 months ago |No interest at all for the a35 or a55, all I WANT is the a77, period.
Sony better NOT delay this time – otherwise might have to look for alternative/s!

12 months ago |Sounds like the new A77 will be the replacement for the A55.
I still doubt the A77 will be a replacement for the A700, it’s too cheap and comes with a cheap kit lens.
Adam Maas
12 months ago |Expect multiple kits for the A77, with the 18-55 as the cheap option, most likely the rumoured 16-50 f2.8 as the expensive option and probably the 16-105 in between the two. At $999US body only and $1099 with the cheap kit lens it’s quite a ways upmarket from the A55 or even the A580, although the latter will likely go away once the A77 ships.
Sony knows it needs to be aggressive to be a player in the upper end of the APS-C market, so pricing needs to be aggressive. If they provide more performance for less money than the K-5 or D7000 the A77 should do well. Pricing against the 60D with the rumoured specs will do exactly that.
kalpurush :)
12 months ago |Agree with you Adam. Very logical analysis mate
Sony knows only a very competitive price can allow them to compete against the D7000/60D or K-5.
ageha
12 months ago |I doubt they are stupid at Sony. If it’s a D7000 killer they are not starting a price war. What would be next? The D7000 sells for $499? I think they know the A77 won’t be able to compete with the D7000 and the 7D.
HD10
12 months ago |A 24mp APS-C sensor combined with a miserly performing kit lens will quickly result in poor reviews for the A77.
At 24mp, lens diffraction starts as early as f/6.3 or f/7.1. An 18-55mm or 16-105mm f/3.5-5.6 zoom will mean that one will always need to shoot wide-open in the long end of the zoom to avoid or minimize lens diffraction.
The A77 will generate a lot of business for Sony as many will have to ditch their slow zoom lenses and get the new 16-50mm f/2.8!
Adam Maas
12 months ago |Nope, the big review sites/magazines all tend to review performance using either the high-end zooms or a 50mm prime (the makers tend to send out the high-spec kit for review, or at least the medium spec kit).
Note Pentax and Canon also both offer their cheap 18-55 as a kit option on their high-end bodies, there’s a serious consumer market for buying a lot of body and sticking cheap glass on it.
