Video and pictures from the Sony booth ( +POLL)
Akihabara posted a set of new images and the video above directly from the Sony booth in Yokohama! You can see tons of new cool stuff like the A77 + battery grip, the Sigma 30mm E-mount lens, the professional NEX videocamera the Zeiss CP lenses for Sony and more!
P.S.: Sigma should have done the 30mm lens as fast as the 30mm f/1.4 lens which is already available for Alpha mount. That would be a nice lens!
Also DC.watch posted a set of new images from the booth.
And those are the official Sony images! Click on them to enlarge!

2 years ago |Is it safe to assume that new Alpha body will have a tilt/(swivel?) screen, judging from the button layout? I wonder why they chose the hinge location on the SLT bodies instead of to the side as with the Canon 60D/T3i. It is sometimes handy to be able to rotate the LCD to the front to take a photo of the two of us…
BMan
2 years ago |Meh, the transparent body has no CF card slot!
So that rumor is obviously false
That’s no very pro by the way.
SD cards are VERY slow compared to high speed CF …
AVESTA
2 years ago |That’s why you use Memory Sticks.
SD is for losers and don’t belong in Sony products.
Joel2
2 years ago |SD are slow in comparison to CF? Have you seen the speeds of the existing SDXC UHS-1 cards that are transferring at 104 MB/s or the newly announced UHS-II standard that will be able to transfer at 312 MB/s. The SD cards will not be the bottleneck in these cameras

plus CZ 50mm 1.4, CZ 35mm 1.4 SSM, CZ 24-105mm f/4 etc
Yes, Sony needs to make more lens for A mount. Sony can make more CZ SSM primes but they don’t.
So frustrating.
AVESTA
2 years ago |um… what do you mean you’re looking for a 24mm zeiss, that already exists.
and they’re not gonna remake a perfectly good lens like 85mm
JB
2 years ago |Add SSM on the 85mm and 135mm and it is worth an upgrade, and maybe even add weather sealing too.
Updating lens is normal in the photography industry.

2 years ago |Take a look – http://en.akihabaranews.com/?gallery=1&post=83788&origine=83788&image=022 – it seems like the eye-start detectors are placed like in Alpha 450 – over the viewfinder, not below. Bleah, it was one of the worse things in A450 ergonomics, plus this one seems to have viewfinder not covered well by the eyecap. Smells like a constant problem with reflections in VF… Pity :/
Nick
2 years ago |also, it isn’t clear what sort of screen pivot arrangment it has. It looks like it pivots at the bottom like an a55, but what is that big lump to the right of the screen ? Another hinge of some sort ? I can’t work it out.
I hope it has better ergonomics than the A550 for physical viewfinder access – having played with one in the shop I’d find that camera quite unuseable because the screen sticks out too far. Much prefer the a55 in that respect, where the viewfinder is clear of the back.
best image to look at is this one

2 years ago |Yea… true… though none of the photos actually show the back well enough to judge anything – the stuff on left or right or bottom could be wires, or some reinforcement, switch what so ever….
I’d wish for screen like in A580 – at least this one can’t be broken as easily as A55 one. But it doesn’t really make any huge difference.
BTW: They should make a limited edition of A77 – translucent camera with translucent mirror – pure awesomeness.

2 years ago |eye start is not an issue, but why is it so burried deep on the camera, i like how the A33/55 evf is popped out from the body, making easier for the eye to fit in… (like pro vid-cam eye piece)

2 years ago |with me, that LCD will make Sony A77 a loser. I love my A33′s rotatable LCD so much.
imanayAieR
2 years ago |look at the picture properly, it has the rotational lcd, its just, the extra 2 hinge on each side make it really confusing. maybe they really did made something even better? cooler then the canon lcd?
Rainmaker18
2 years ago |I’m a bit confused, to me the picture of the translucent A77 is different to the non-translucent A77 in the Video with the battery grip. The one with the grip does not seem to have any hinges on its lcd?

2 years ago |the new prototype looks quite promising…i’m already in love with all them buttons on the back AND on top! personally, i think it’s a big improvement, compared to the former mock-up. Also, the second display looks larger. sadly, they cut out a 3-way metering mode switch as it seems. however, on the front it looks like there is still one for the af-modes.
i can live with the no-cf-card thing, it’s stupid, but it’s not just a sony thing.
the only thing, i’m still really concerned about is the ViewFinder, hopefully they come up with a very good solution, as i don’t like the a55′s.

2 years ago |i wonder what new flash they’re releasing. isn’t it too fast for a f58am replacement?

2 years ago |WHERE ARE ALL THE BUTTONS ON THE A77? WHY IS THE MOVIE BUTTON PLACED SO UNERGONOMICALLY?!! fine they may have wanted to prevent anyone from accidentally pressing it but behind a AEL button which is raised? wtf?!!
Khai
2 years ago |ok the black one obviously is the prototype we’ve been seeing for the past god knows decades? the newer one ie the transparent body, hopefully has all the right buttons in the right place..i still do not get why the movie button has to be so far beside the viewfinder?

Yea, the new prototype has much more buttons

2 years ago |I’d like to see some additional focus on A-mount lenses. The quality being offered currently lack value. I’d like to see more Zeiss options and G lenses with SSM and bright f range. I’d like to see a 18-55mm f/2.8 G lens with SSM priced at what the CZ1680 goes for (preferably under $900). I don’t want to fork out over $1500 for the CZ2470, but would like to have more options in between the standard Sony lenses and Zeiss.
Again, there’s really no news in book. Any new body is pretty useless if the lens options remain weak.

2 years ago |What’s this fuss about new lenses? Sony does publish new lenses regularly. They did last year as well. Whereas its lineup was missing an upgraded semi-pro body for ages…. Now, that a seeming perfect semi-pro body is finally being released, you guys are crying for lenses?
To me, Sony already has quite a lot of variety in their lineup to choose from that they will upgrade continually as they have been doing for the past years.
Sky_walker
2 years ago |Maybe fuss is here because during last 4 years Sony was lazy about lenses, and in 2010 it was just miserable defeat in numbers?
Dulaney Ward
2 years ago |not really; Sony has been releasing lenses just about as fast as Nikon. Three a-mount & three e-mount last year. Three great FF lenses in 2009. Sony won CIPA awards for its a-mount lenses both of the last two years. Four e-mount & at least two a-mount this year: what we’ve seen so far are the lenses that will be released with the A77; there will be other cameras, and, I expect, other lenses.
Sky_walker
2 years ago |Ok, I wasn’t talking about e-mount there cause I don’t care bout them – they don’t fit my camera, so even if Sony would release 50 of them – I still would keep my statement about Sony being lazy and staying behind competition while it should release more lenses as since very beginning it was behind the competition,
eg. We don’t have any enstablished offer of mid-range lenses, something well build but not f/2.8. Right now it’s or plastic-fantastic or super-expensive Zeiss/G.
Not even saying about total emptyness in affordable SSM offering – Canikon somehow can do this, but Sony needs to wish my big pile of money for it or they throw me the SAM junk which only advantage is eating battery faster. Great.
saiman
2 years ago |Also, the Sony 28-75mm f2.8 SAM (which is a great lens) is already around the $900 mark. I don’t see how making it G would keep it in the same price range?
Not to mention, the CZ1680 is still around.

2 years ago |I agree that the mid to higher end bodies need updating. I am looking forward to the A77. I just think that Sony ought to do the same for their lens line up and move away from the cheap Konica models they’ve repackaged.
It makes no sense to have great bodies and a slow lens offering. The Zeiss lenses are great, but they’re also $1000-1500 a piece. The line up for under a $1000 is very weak and, on average, slower than the competition.

2 years ago |move along people. nothing new here. it’s the effin’ same display of cameras from PDN PhotoPlus Expo here in New York last Oct and i believe that it was the same set of display too in Photokina.
Sony, you should know by now that the world has gotten smaller that in one place you put up a product announcement or display production units, it will be known by everyone, and i mean “everyone.” Why not put something new on every trade show you go to and not put out the same thing on every damn show. We’re getting tired of seeing these things (esp. the a7xxx mockup) over and over without you releasing something. not news at all.
Daniel
2 years ago |… the bigger news seem to be around the nex line again…a little improvment however, don’t u see that the new mockup is so much nicer than the old one!? that’s a huge leap forward, such tranlucent technology, just phenomenal !!! I can hardly wait fo the next one, imagine how good that will be!!

Sony “Who cares about official specs&release date, we’re doing art here, can’t you see!?”, oh, I almost forgot, where are the coloured nexes? now, really…!!…

2 years ago |Is it? I must have missed the new transparent prototype with all those buttons.
Daniel
2 years ago |You saw those too!? hmmm, nice new mockup with shiny new buttons, great!!!
Daniel
2 years ago |Seriously, they’ve announced this camera more than a year ago…you’re right about one thing, don’t know if you meant it or not, but this is the true, this is the PROTOTYPE. The sad part is that this should have been shown earlier, not some silly mockup. we all agree that the final product is just around the corner….my personal belief is that it’s being tested right now, but this means that Sony only started working on it very recently, maybe after the a580 hit the market as a final product. What’s been shown before, the mockup was just a hint of the new camera to be developed, more of a guideline to their program for the next year.
This becomes more obviously with each month that passes…
The fun part is that the A77 is already a legend without having been launched yet…so at least it’s famous, i’m sure it will be a succes. I think exsisting users will upgrade from their smaller consumer alphas along with those a700 users who are still waiting for its succesor and haven’t jumped ships to Canikon
rattatatat
2 years ago |Personally, I think the top LCD and four button layout look similar to 60D layout. However, the 60D has a nicer dial/shutter configuration. For me, the dial in the complete vertical position seems for ergonomical, but the A700 dial is still better for one hand operation than the A580 (horizontal) position. These are just nitpicks and minors issues that you get used to after some time with the camera.

2 years ago |Here’s what I want for the A77/A7XX:
- best of both worlds of the technology from the a55 and a580 and the body of a850 or a redesigned body of the a700. (the a55 body is too small esp. the grip and the EVF needs more work so still prefer OVF but mirrorles technology in it is amazing)
- from a55, take the translucent technology with all its goodness and EVF in conjunction, there should be like a switch to go to OVF and then go to the traditional mirrored sensor just like the a580. or maybe even in OVF, you can have the option to use the translucent functionality and vice versa.
- it’s like with one turn of a switch, you have the functionality of a55 and then switch back to an a580 or mix-n-match both features (mirrorless-mirrored, EVF-OVF) but with a similar a850 body or an improved a700.
- the LCD screen should be similar to a580 but should have the ability to also flip sideways like the Canon 60D so you can flip the screen 270 degrees or 360 degrees if they can do it.
- thinner LCD if possible with the OLED technology or similar to apples’ iphone 4′s retina display.
- NO TOUCH SCREEN for god’s sake.
- GPS, Wifi for wireless data transfers (byebye Eye-Fi cards), CF + SD + MemoryStick (CF preferred)
- Should have the ability to use LCD monitors/HDTV’s as screen via HDMI or if they can make it too for VGA and DVI would be nice.
- has the ability to crop photos and apply filters such as B&W, sepia, etc just like in Nikon’s DSLRs and extend this feature to have more filters similar to instagram. this feature wouldn’t hurt if they add it. why not?
with all those, what camera manufacturer can compete with that on the Semi-Pro lineup? Canon 60D? Nikon D7000? nah…

2 years ago |I hope 2011′s lens releases aren’t just going to be a stream of E mount lenses.
All we know is coming in A mount this year so far is the 500/4 and the A77′s (APS size) standard lens.
Maybe they’re planning on saving the next set of full frame lenses to release them along side the A900 successor in 2012? Depressing, if so.
