Will early NEX-7 preorders shipping without delay?
There could be a good news for some of our future Sony NEX-7 owners. Two of our readers sent me a message they received from Sony:
“Hello Mr. XXXX
Thank you for your recent Sony purchase.
We would like to inform you we are experiencing a delay with your Sony order. The following item NEX7K/B has been rescheduled to ship on 11/11/2011.
Tracking information will be sent via email once your order ships. This number will also be available within the order history in your Sony Account. If you are unable to continue waiting we encourage you to visit our website or call 1-866-337-7669 to work with a Sony sales representative to find an alternative product that will meet your needs.
We appreciate your understanding and thank you for choosing Sony!
Sincerely,
Sony Customer Care

It sounds like Sony already produced some stocks of Sony NEX-7 cameras and customers that preordered the cameras in the very first days after the announcement may will get the camera in time!
P.S.: NEX-7 preorder links Amazon, Adorama, B&H, J&R, eBay.

7 months ago |is it too late to pre order?
Linh
7 months ago |No. Bt definitely too late to expect first shipment.

7 months ago |I received the same e mail message from Sony. Twice, but that was way back in the beginning of October.
BilliBob
7 months ago |Yeah, I received this email twice. First the same day I ordered it in early September. And, secondly at the very beginning of October. Sony store online says available on or about 11/9 but I think they made 11/11 the actual release date.

7 months ago |What is a delay in camera shipping when people lose their house, their health, their lives and their loved ones. I can give my pre- order away if it helps
Eric
7 months ago |Obviously, but this is a camera news and rumors sight, not the red cross.

7 months ago |This is a camera rumor site. We fill bad for the loss, but yet, we still want our camera. This is called reality.
So a camera delay is still a camera delay. It won’t wreck my life, but I had some plans for using it and hope to use it soon.
Just because someone posts a concern about the delay, doesn’t mean they are heartless, just pragmatic

7 months ago |Hmm, I ordered through Amazon the second day it was available. I’ve heard nothing from them so far
Joe
7 months ago |Well, Amazon got their 5N shipment in almost a month later than SonyStyle. Sony would fulfill their pre-order 1st, before shipping it out to other retailers.

it’s an email from ‘Sony customer care’ & we all know that doesn’t exist!

7 months ago |I received the same message about my pre-ordered NEX 7 way back on 27 Sept. That was shortly after the clicking noise was discovered on the 5N and new firmware was being created for the A77 sensor. Since the NEX 7 has the same sensor as the A77, and probably also had the same clicking noise as the 5N, I figured that the 2 day delay was for addressing both of those issues (not the flood).
I have yet to receive another message stating that there will be a further delay of my pre-order. But that doesn’t mean that it won’t be. I actually hope it is delayed. I hate to think of anyone swimming thru the flood waters to get my camera boxed up and shipped out. If they do, I hope they get a bonus, or at least hazardous-duty pay.

7 months ago |Does anyone know how long it takes to ship from Thailand to U.S. ? I wonder if those early pre-orders were on a boat right before the flood.
Ken
7 months ago |Transit time from Bangkok to LA is approximately 24 days. Add to that Port times for loading and unloading would add a few days. An unknown would be a reduced speed for fuel savings and perhaps a secondary port in the mix. So 4 weeks minimum would be a good guess.
Elyn
7 months ago |Thanks Ken. That means early pre-orders were probably out of Thailand and on board ships or about to be loaded when the flooding started. Would explain why they are not canceling the pre-ordered cameras?
Are you waiting for one?
Ken
7 months ago |Yes, I have a pre-Order at Amazon since early September. I then ordered from Sony as soon as I heard about the potential delay. Thinking being that Sony might fill it’s own commitment first. I think there will be quite a demand for awhile.
My only concern was that Sony would ship orders from Thailand similar to how Apple operate.

7 months ago |Ordered mine 9/10, and still received the same message from the US Sony Store, that it will ship 11/11. So don’t know what the deal is yet, or how many were made, since it was over two weeks from introduction when I ordered mine.

7 months ago |This has been debated several times on DPreview. The messages you are receiving are automated. Call your Sony rep and they probably have no clue about the disaster or the delivery, or delay about your NEX7.
There is not even an official statement from Sony that can be trusted.
eg Cancel indefinitely NEX7 and A65, as published on this site but a few days later A65 available everywhere.
Sony is keeping quiet for very good reasons because they do not have enough info to make an official statement.
What is likely and probable is that given the cycle for production, shipping, distribution, release etc is that here are a limited batch/number of units in transit to destinations if not already received.
What happens to those is still doubtful – Sony hang on to them or do a limited drip feed release, who knows.
But we will know in the next two weeks or so as release dates arrive.

7 months ago |Hi,
The message was from Janice at the Sony Store, and was a detailed response to my question. She also authorized a 5% credit due to the delay, so pretty sure it wasn’t automated. It may or may not be true, we will see.

7 months ago |I’m with most of what you wrote except about the part that Sony said the NEX7 and A65 were cancelled indefinitely and then showed up everywhere. Sony Japan (although Sony’s main HQ) was speaking about the Japanese market. A Sony US rep noted that and lo and behold the A65′s started showing up. I’ve seen no word on the A65 showing up in Japan.
Most of these sites reporting on the a65 & nex7 were reporting a delay worldwide because of what Sony Japan had to say about Japan’s delay. I understand that might usually be a good gauge but that’s how bad rumors start.

7 months ago |I hope they give a few to Amazon. I really didn’t understand they prioritize sony style and preordere at Amazon like 5 min after they posted the link.
There is only one way to find out.

7 months ago |Just got off the web chatting with a Sony agent via their online chat system. He checked and said that the anticipated first supply (expected sometime in early Nov) was adequate for a pre-order placed today. They do not charge your cc until they ship to you so you can cancel if delay extends or you change your mind. Try “talking” with an agent on their chat system at the Sony site to get their comments on availability. I’ve pre-ordered today and now have my fingers crossed.
Ken
7 months ago |Thank you Gerald, that is good news indeed. It will be hard to use a Nex 7 without thinking of the misery inflicted on the persons who built it. Think I will send Red Cross some $
