This is a Guest Post from Dierk Topp:

On July 24 I read about a German dealer here on SAR, who has the Batis 2/25mm in stock. I called him right away and clicked the buy button on ebay, while I was talking to him – and I got it July 27 :-)
I wanted  to compare the Batis 2/25mm with the Sony 4/16-35mm and the Sony 4/24-70mm and did some test shots the same day. The building where I live has a U shape and it is ideal to do lens tests from one part of the building to the parallel other part.
The images were made with tripod ISO 100 and f/2 to f/8 with the Batis and f/4 to f/8 with the Sony lenses. Minimum processing with Lightroom 5, sharpening 40,1,30. I used the lens profile for the Sony lenses but for the Batis I don’t have a profile jet.
You find all test images here in my flickr album
I selected the most important three images with f/5.6 and show you a crop of the lower right corner. Click on the images for the full resolution images.
I don’t want to comment on the image quality as you have the chance to judge yourself and look for what is most important for you.
Bought new, all lenses are in about the same price range.

I see the following Pro and Cons:

Zeiss Batis 2/25mm
Pro: f/2 with good bokeh, best IQ, lowest close focus distance
Con: no zoom, “only” 25mm, no OSS (no problem with the new IBIS bodies)

Sony Vario-Tessar 4/16-35mm and 4/24-70mm
Pro: good range of zoom, OSS
Con: only f/4, less bokeh, less IQ

I have to find out, if this Batis offers opportunities for new – other – different pictures, or is it just my(our) G.A.S. ?

Size comparison on the A7R (I have only one, the others are from PS :-) )

The weather has been very bad for landscape and architecture shots, here are my first results.
During the next days I will load more, if the weather becomes better.

You will find them here in my flickr album
