Yole prediction paper: Sony will further increase the sensor quality advantage over the competition!

With the new A7rII Sony made a new step forward to increase their sensor quality advantage over the competition. And as soon as Sony will give us real 14bit RAW we will be able to squeeze out some more performance out of it! Yes that’s me again making some push on Sony :)

What can we expect from the future Sony sensor development? Pierre Cambou from Yole Development is sure Sony will increase the technological advantage over the competition:

“Yole forecasts that the CIS industry will reach $10B this year, with Sony remaining the undisputed world leader –mainly at image sensor level, but gaining strong momentum at camera module level too. And what will Sony’s $4B be used for? Probably to increase capacity, enhance R&D efforts, and further widen the gap between its competitors. It may also be used in applications that will generate a firm lead in automotive, and to develop sensing technologies for consumer and automotive applications. With this bold financing move, Sony is leveraging its leading technology position and demonstrating the confidence it has in its products, its technology, and its future.

Sony’s success story has or will have many consequences on the competition:
1) We already heard that Fuji will use a new Sony APS-C sensor on the X-PRO 2 which is rumored to be released in early 2016.
2) Nikon lost the exclusivity on new Sony FF sensors. I don’t know how Nikon will react to this
3) Also Pentax is rumored to use Sony sensor on their Pentax FF camera coming this fall.
4) Canon…yes Canon…what the heck will they do?

EISA awards for the 90mm FE and Sony A7II cameras.

Bildschirmfoto 2015-08-17 um 13.01.31

Like any year websites report about those new EISA awards. Sony won two of them with the 90mm FE and Sony A7II. And just like any year these kind of awards look like made in a way that every company gets a price in at least one of the many categories. Yeah, I guess companies need that award logo to promote their brand in stores.

Photographyblog reviewed the 90mm FE lens and writes:

It delivers outstanding sharpness in the centre of the frame almost throughout its aperture range and it also doesn’t suffer from distortion even when shooting in the RAW format. It offers quite fast and reliable auto-focusing on the new A7R II that we tested it with, plus intuitive manual focusing thanks to the push/pull collar and an outstanding level of build quality given the budget price – it’s even usefully weather-tight too.

Personal note: Need more time to answer your mails. New Baby is here (and my A7rII too).

A7rII_baby

On Saturday I received two new babies. One is a real baby (a daughter) and one is my own new Sony A7rII :)

The reason I am disclosing this personal event is that my mail box is exploding with messages I didn’t answer yet. And the next few days I will keep not answering most of your messages to spend more time with my newborn. So please excuse me for the next 1-2 weeks if I do not answer you. I will catch up by end of this month. Some sources also hinted to me a Sony announcement is not far away so I will still work on the rumor front to get some info about the new cameras and lenses.

First personal A7rII test: I used the A7rII for the first time on Saturday night when my baby was born. I will not post these images for obvious privacy reasons. But I want to say having a silent shutter was super! And so the ability to shoot 4K videos! I loved the new EVF and it made it very easy for me to manually focus with my favorite lens which is the [shoplink 39461 ebay]Canon FD 55mm f/1.2[/shoplink]. A personal thanks to Sony for creating a camera capable to shoot such beautiful images and videos.

The present I would like to get from readers :)
I do plan to improve the communication and utility of my social networks. And I would like you to subscribe my network to not miss any SAR news also useful because of the extra info I share through them:
