Place your bet: Where will A-mount be in three years from now?

Sony stated that they will keep A-mount and somewhat hinted that it would kept alive in the very high-end segment. We are eagerly waiting to get news about the A99II and I really do hope Sony will give as a “WOW” with that camera as they did with their recent A7rII release.  That said, I am curious to hear from you what your “feeling” tells you about the A-mount future:

What Sony lens do you hope to get in 2023?

This is a list of features I hope to see on the new A99II:
– 50+MP sensor
– Really really really fast autofocus which works reliably in low light (much better than the A7rII).
– Best EVF in class
– Really really really long battery life (much better than the A7rII).
– 4K with no overheating issues (thanks to larger body)

On the panel we also have Sony manger Kenta Honjo so be sure to ask him precise simple questions about some of the A7rII issues we found out in those days. Robbert:Shot my first real shoot with the new A7Rii yesterday and it performed fabulously. Used it connected to my MacBook Pro running Capture One and the files where transferring to the laptop pretty fast. The autofocus was running perfectly and the files that are coming out of the camera are rich, detailed just beautiful. Also thumbs up for Sony for the new cable management thingie that’s in the box with the Rii!! The first result of the shoot can be found here: https://flic.kr/p/xc44eR

Gilles:Something interesting: On the A7R we had to use the sony adapter la-ea4 to gte good results. The AF was slow but accurate. I saw Brian Smith explaining early that with the A7RMK2 it’s highly preferable to use the sony adapter la-ea3 because the AF is handled directly by the body. Sounded great. I got a la-ea3 on Saturday and was surprised to find that my Zeiss 1.4 85mm was not recognized as an AF lens. Then tested all my lenses and got weird results. The Sigma ART 35 works fine. The Sigma ART 50 tries to get focus and then restarts, never able to focus completely. 1/3 of the Zeiss lenses are working (Sony-Zeiss Alpha A-Mount 24mm f/2 SSM does but neither the 85mm nor the 135 mm work). The Tamron 150-600 works like a charm. The store where I bought the adapter talked to a Sony rep this am who confirms that the adapter has incompatibility issues. If that is true Sony A-mount lens users have a real problem. Painful, inexplicable and inexcusable. We should find more from Sony engineers.

Ryan:I just posted a blog post with some sample images and initial thoughts on the new A7Rii. I will also be running this camera through its paces in the studio today with the Profoto B1 strobes. Tomorrow I’ll be shooting environmental portraits with the A7Rii and Profoto B2 strobes. http://www.sniperphotoblog.com/2015/08/sony-a7rii-high-res-samples-lets-see.html

J.C.:I got a lens for a very good price from Amazon & I am so amazed by the proformance VS the cost, I thought every e-mount user should own one ! I have a lot of lens like konica, minolta, sony, zeiss , & more that I shoot daily. This new lens rivals some of my best& outperforms many that cost much more!  The lens is an 85mm F1.8 all manual, solid build metal& glass lens with hood & caps, brand new with E-Mount Adaptor for 109.00USD from Opteka. It comes in cannon EF mount, hence the Fotoga EF too Emount Adaptor.

New XEEN Cine lenses for Sony E-mount from Samyang!

Bildschirmfoto 2015-08-09 um 20.42.00

And now it’s official: The new Samyang Cine lens line “XEEN” has been announced. And full specs and preorder are available at BHphoto:
Rokinon Xeen 24mm T1.5 Lens (Click here).
Rokinon Xeen 50mm T1.5 Lens (Click here).
Rokinon Xeen 85mm T1.5 Lens (Click here).

There is also a first impression review at BH Explora (Click here):

I found the Rokinon XEEN Cine Lenses to be well made, easy to work with, and overall I enjoyed the image quality. They rendered naturalistic images with good contrast and a pleasing, slightly warm feel. Intercutting between the lenses required no additional color correction beyond applying the same LUT to the footage. It is my preference to shoot more closed down than wide open, and I did feel the lenses performed best starting around T4, but I was still satisfied with footage shot at T1.5. Overall, I was pleased with the XEEN lenses and look forward to working with them again.
