Sony is quite an innovative company no doubt on that. But let’s help them to figure out what SAR readers would like to get from them. One of the ideas popped out from our minds is that one:
Current Sony FE lenses are quite big and it would be nice to have a new dedicated pancake lens line. They could just learn from Pentax who created the limited pancake line. These lenses have a fairly good optical performance and at the same time are extremely compact and well-built. The lenses are:

Sony released the new firmware 3.30 for the Sony A7rII (download here at Sony UK).

• Benefits and improvements:

  • Improves stability of the camera while shooting still images by regulating the internal temperature
  • Overall stability and operability of the camera is improved.

Sony manager Otaka spilled out some info about the future Sony product launch cycle. He said:

今後は新しいボディが出たら新しいレンズが出る、新しいレンズが出たら新しいボディが出る、といった感じに思っていてほしい。

which translated means:

“From now on, if we release a new body, we’ll release a new lens. If we release a new lens, we’ll release a new body.”

The latest two Sony announcements where about new lenses “only” (Zeiss Planar FE in July and the 50mm FE and 70-300mm FE in May). So it’s great to hear we are now getting new cameras too!
