(SR5) On Monday Sony will announce their most expensive E-mount lens in their range…the 600mm f/4.0 costing around $14,000!

What you see on top is an image from the official Sony patent for a 600mm f/4.0 FE lens

It has been a rollercoaster of rumor time: But finally we sorted out things and we can report with 100% certainty that on Monday Sony will announce their most expensive E-mount lens ever:

We have been told 600mm f/4.0 will have an estimated price of around $14,000!

By comparison the Nikon 600mm and the Canon 600mm lenses cost less than $13,000. Here is a size comparison between the Nikon/Canon 600mm lens and the Sony 400mm GM. I guess the Sony 600mm will have a similar size.

On Monday June 10 (I guess 4-5pm London time) Sony will announce:

  • 200-600mm f/5.6-6.3 G lens priced around $2,000
  • 600mm f/4.0 for $14,000

Exciting!

Note: Nokishita confirmed two lenses are coming. But they have no info about when it will be announced and how much they will cost…we have it :)

In case you missed it: Summary of why we got no announcement on June 6 as previously rumored:

  1. June 5/6 journalists had a meeting to test the 200-600mm G lens.
  2. But the NDA to publish their hands-on is now set to expire on Monday (June 10) and not Today (June 6) as they have been previously told.
  3. A second lens has been unveiled to them at the very end of the meeting!
  4. This lens is the 600mm f/4.0

(SR5) Great last minute news: Two FE lenses to be announced on Monday!

I now had a chat with three different sources. All three were actually expecting to be able to publish their 200-600mm FE G lens hands-on news today!

But now they told me that there was a last minute change at Sony:

  1. All journalists and youtubers had to sign an NDA which will expire on Monday!
  2. They now got info about a second FE lens too!

So this is what we learned now about the two new FE lenses:

  1. Sony 200-600mm FE f/5.6-6.3 will cost around $2,000
  2. The second lens is a fast telephoto prime!

Sorry again for the confusing 200-600mm announcement rumors but as you see there was really a major change because we now have TWO FE lenses to be unveiled early next week!

Summary in case you got lost with my rumors lately:

  4. This lens is a fast telephoto prime.

UPDATE: Correction on time release info. 200-600mm FE (price $2,000) and second FE to be announced on Monday!

UPDATE:
Journalists are currently attending the 200-600mm FE G lens launch and shooting both wildlife and sports with it. But the official press text has still not be released.

I realized that I misunderstood the time release date: At 16:00 London time the Sony journalists press meeting has started but the NDA will expire on Monday! Sony decided to give journalists some hands-on time before the lens news goes public in a few days. I apologize for the misunderstanding!

One more thing: Latest I heard that the lens price is around $2,000!

UPDATE-2: Sony decided in very last minute to delay the public announcement to Monday…and we will get a second FE lens too! Read more about it here: sonyalpharumors.com/sr5-great-last-minute-news-two-fe-lenses-to-be-announced-early-next-week/

Summary in case you got lost with my rumors lately:

  1. June 5/6 journlists had a meeting to test the 200-600mm G lens
  2. But the NDA to disclose their findings is now set to expire on Monday and not Today (June 6) as they have been previously told
  3. A second lens has been unveiled to them at the very end of the meeting!
  4. This lens is a fast telephoto prime

The waiting for the new 200-600mm FE G lens announcement…

I just saw on Instagram many of the well-known youtubers on flight to the Sony event. While I have no 100% confirmation Sony usually makes the public announcements of new products around 4pm London time. UPDATE: Sony had the press meeting event but the NDA will expire in a few days after that event!

Now while we can be pretty certain to get the new 200-600mm FE I have no idea yet if we can hope to get something else. As far as I have heard the really HUGE events are scheduled for late summer. Sony is betting high on a new High end camera that will replace the A9. It will have a REVOLUTIONARY sensor and I am sure in that case that this isn’t a hype.

I also got rumors about the A7sIII and other Sony FE lenses I will post the weeks after today’s announcement.

In the meantime let’s see if Sony can surprise us today…

Will you buy the new 200-600mm FE if it's priced around $2,000?

Image of the new World’s widest rectilinear Full Frame Lens mounted from Laowa on the Sony

Kevin Yeung from Laowa posted these pictures of the new World’s widest rectilinear Full Frame f/5.6 M mount lens. In this case you see it adapted on the Sony using the Techart LM-EA7 autofocus adapter. Not sure if this lens will be available as native E-mount version too. Laowa did NOT disclose the focal length of the lens yet…

He also posted three imagge samples shot with it:

Size comparison between the 200-600mm FE and the 100-400mm GM

Our reader Robert made this size comparison between the leaked Sony 200-400mm f/5.6-6.3 G lens and the Sony 100-400mm GM. The new Sony super telephoto zoom lens will be announced this week on June 5 or June 6.

I have no idea how much the new 200-600mm lens will cost yet. Would be happy to learn it’s around $2,000. As a comparison the Nikon 200-500mm f/5.6 lens is priced at $1250.

And some fun by VTC Media :)
