Competition on the horizon: Canon new camera mount system? Megapixel race is restarting again!

Mark my words guys. Early 2015 will be very exciting for the whole photographic industry with many new cameras and what’s more important new sensors and advanced features. I already told you there is something big from Sony on the horizon (coming January). The Megapixel war is restarting and Canon will likely try to fight back Sony too. There is finally going to be a big battle on the Full Frame Mirrorless and on the sensor ground. These are the reasons:

1) Canon is seriously considering to launch a complete new mount system (Source: MirrorlessRumors). Likely a Full Frame mirrorless system to fight back the A7 series

2) At Dpreview Canon said “In the very near future you can expect us to show something in terms of mirrorless and also a higher resolution sensor.

It’s going to be strong battle. If Canon gets “serious” with the new FF mirrorless mount system Sony will have to fight against a very strong PR machine. Sony really has to do things right in 2015 to not lose their current advantage. And it’s certainly a good news for us to know they have finally some competition!

The Chinese site Cnbeta claims to have got that image of a new Sony sensor. It’s a 12 megapixel Full Frame sensor with Global shutter.

While I am absolutely not sure if that’s a true image I am sure Sony will make such kind of FF sensors within the next 1-2 years. Sensors with Global Shutter take a snapshot representing a single instant in time and therefore do not suffer from the motion artifacts caused by rolling shutters.

Sony confirms again A-mount keeps going on. And me working on A-mount rumors…

In an interview with DC.watch Sony confirmed once again A-mount development is going on. And that’s also the kind of info I keep “receiving” from trusted and anonymous sources. I am trying to get some more reliable detailed info about the possible future A-mount stuff release. Let’s hope I can post more “solid” rumors soon!

(SR2) Some “whispers” about the FE lens price: Zeiss 35mm for 1399 euro?

sony-fe-24-240mm-zoom-lens

VeryBigLobo got unofficially some “whispered” price info of the new FE lenses:

– 28mm f/2.0 G should cost 499 Euro (February shipment)
– 35mm f/1.4 Zeiss should cost 1399 Euro (March shipment)
– 90mm f/2.8 G macro should cost 999 Euro (March shipment)
– 24-240mm f/3.5-6.4 should cost 1099 Euro (March shipment)
– both converters should cost 229 Euro each (March shipment)

Take it with a grain of salt. To me this looks like a very good pricing!

Reminder: Sony announcement in a few hours at 15:00 London time.

In a few hours at exactly 15:00 London time (16:00 in Köln at the Photokina) Sony will introduce new lenses. As usual you can follow the event here on SAR where I will give you all links to reviews, news and preorders for the new products. By the way 15:00 London time is:
7am in San Francisco
10 am in NYC
23:00 in Tokyo.

What can we expect? The Zeiss 16-35mm f/4.0 for sure. And Sony will also likely show more new (pre)production A and E-mount lenses and an updated FE lens roadmap.

(SR5) Full Zeiss 16-35mm FE lens MTF and design graph.

I got more images about the new Zeiss 16-35mm f/4.0 FE OSS lens that will be announced tomorrow. As you know you can follow the event live here at SAR at 16:00 Berlin time!

Here are two graphs about the new lens:

The Zeiss 16-35mm should ship within end of this year. But I “fear” that all other lenses that will be announced tomorrow will hit the market in 2015 only. Because so far I didn’t get detailed info on them…probably because Sony will not unveil the final info tomorrow (just general introduction).

To end with a good news: After Pohotkina I can probably start with new rumors about the High Resolution cameras and some RX camera info I got in these days.

Follow the Sony announcement live here on SAR on Monday Sept 15 at 16:00 Berlin time. That’s:
7am in San Francisco
10 am in NYC
15:00 in London
23:00 in Tokyo.
