Sony A7s and RX100mIII European pricing to be unveiled the coming week.

The only region on earth that still has no clue about the possible A7s and RX100M3 pricing is..Europe! I actually mean the European Union state members using the Euro as currency. But one of our German readers just got that note from Sony Germany saying the price for both cameras is likely going to be announced the coming week:

Leider liegen uns noch keine genauren Informationen bezüglich der Verfügbarkeit der Kameras vor. Wir gehen allerdings davon aus, dass diese  voraussichtlich ab nächster Woche vorbestellbar sein sollten.
Bei weiteren Fragen stehen wir Ihnen gerne zur Verfügung.
Mit freundlichen Grüssen,

Hope it took that long just because they wanted to lower the final price :)

(SR4) Sony A99 to be discontinued soon?

One trusted source who shared correct info in the past just told me that he got a “note” saying the Sony A99 will be discontinued this summer. He will send me more info soon about a possible successor launch. Thanks “source” for sharing the info. Hope to get some news from you soon :)

Meantime Full Frame becomes cheaper: [shoplink 26856 ebay]Open Box A7 for $1298 (Samys)[/shoplink] and [shoplink 26857 ebay]A7r for $1900 (6ave)[/shoplink]. Hope Sony will offer a “cheap” FF A-mount soon too!

SR5=almost certainly correct!

Next competition rumor: Nikon D800 successor to come next month with same Sony 36MP sensor.

The Sony 36MP sensor was already powering the Nikon D800 (Image Source: Chipworks).

Sony is rumored to launch one (or maybe even two) new Full Frame A-mount cameras soon (likely this summer before Photokina). But before that Nikon will announce their new D800/E successor camera in June. According to Dr.Photorumor and Nikonrumors the camera will sue the same Sony A7r 36 MP sensor and overall the camera will feature a lot of small improvements and no real new big feature (like 4K or so).

There are a couple of interesting aspects of that rumor:
1) Nikon will not get a new Sony generation sensor (we were used before with Nikon FF cameras getting brand new Sony sensors 6 months ahead of Sony itself).
2) Nikon will not add 4K to their pro FF cameras. If Sony A99II will have 4K this will be one big unique selling point for Sony.

Can’t wait to hear more about the A99II. Some hints from my trusted sources maybe? :)

Unexpected: Fuji will launch a Medium Format camera with the Sony 50MP sensor this summer!

[shoplink 26808 ebay][/shoplink]

What you see on top is the nice [shoplink 26808 ebay]Fuji GF670 film camera (here one eBay)[/shoplink]. Well, according to the usually very reliable Fujirumors Fuji launch a medium format version of the same having a new X-PRO 1 alike hybrid viewfinder this summer. What doe sit matter for us? Because it should use the same Sony 50 Megapixel sensor of the recently launched Hasselblad H5D (in Stock now), Phase One IQ250 and Pentax 645Z cameras.

The question now is if Sony will at the same time launch their RX medium format camera. Would be a bit weird Sony outsourcing the sensor to a direct competitor but on the other side that is exactly what Sony keeps doing in the DSLR and Mirrorless market too.

This is going to be a hell of exciting time on SAR this summer! Stay tuned. Lot of things to come for the big Sony Photokina time :)

(UPDATED) Surprise: Sony A7s has full electronic shutter!

It’s a real surprise Sony didn’t make a big advertising on one of the Sony A7s biggest new features. According to Amazon US (Click here and read the “Additional Features” section) the A7s has full electronic shutter! It means you can shoot in full silence and with no vibration usually caused by the mechanical shutter! Quite a huge news nobody wrote about it! I hope this isn’t a mistake. This is Amazon’s description:

Silent shutter mode is ideal when discretionary shooting is required; like capturing a recital or wildlife. Activating the silent shutter eliminates the use of the mechanical shutter and therefore shutter noise by utilizing an electronic shutter in its place.

Also the well-known German Fotomagazin claims the Sony A7s is capable of shooting in full electronic shutter mode! The magazine also writes “Sony could not answer our question if the function (pure electronic shutter) could be updated in other Sony-A7-cameras.” (I don’t know if it’s technically possible).

Also Digitalversus writes:

“The other reason we’re dying to get our hands on the Alpha 7s is that it has an electronic shutter mode, which means it can snap photos in complete silence—a more-than-welcome surprise that puts it in competition with the Panasonic GX7.”

There is not detailed info yet about how exactly the silent electronic mode works on the A7s. Hope Sony will disclose more details about it soon!

————————

These are the first images of the amazing new RX100M3 that will be announced on May 16 at 5am London time. I kindly invite you all to follow the announcement live here on SonyAlphaRumors!

As you can see the RX100M3 has a high-resolution built-in pop-up viewfinder. The camera costs 849 Euro or $899 Canadian Dollars.  The amazing new features compared to its predecessors are:

1) Zeiss 24-70mm f/1.8-2.8 lens which is wider and brighter than the previous Zeiss 28-100mm f/1.8-4.9 lens
2) 0.39″ SVGA electronic viewfinder pop-up OLED viewfinder with 1,440,000 dots.
3) Built-in ND filter
4) XAVC-S video recording just like the Sony A7s

Some people complained that the compact is very expensive but they do forget that an external viewfinder usually costs $200-300 (here at Amazon) and ont he RX100M3 it’s included and nicely hidden when you don’t need it. That way the camera remains truly compact!

The new camera is 2,5mm thicker than the RX100M2 (and 5mm thicker than the first generation RX100). Full specs can be read here: http://www.sonyalpharumors.com/sr5-rx100miii-priced-at-899-canadiad-us-dollars-full-specs-leaked/.
