(SR3) More tidbits on the Medium Format Sony: “Imagine a sort of digital Mamiya 7”.

One of the anonymous sources that gave me tidbits about the Sony medium Format Camera is that you have to imagine it as a sort of digital [shoplink 25383 ebay]Mamiya 7 (here on eBay)[/shoplink]. But the camera should look better and be smaller :). This means it is definitely a mirrorless camera and probably has a built-in EVF. I still have no specs (a aprt of the 50MP sensor) or any confirmation from my trusted sources. That’s why I rank the rumor as SR3 only (50% chance it’s true).

Sony Korea slides unveils the plan to focus on the “High-End” market!

The Korean site Naver posted these slides from a Sony Korea presentation (translation on courtesy of Dicahub and SAR reader Park). There are a couple of interesting info:
– Sony is now entering “Phase 2” of their product startegy. From 2014 towards focsu will be on the High End A and E-mount market.
– In Korea Sony has the chance to become the leader of the system camera market (DSLR+Mirrorless) by end of this year! They have 31% of the whole market in Korea and 53% of the mirrorless market.
– Sony said they have 50% share of the global sensor market (on a quantity basis).
– Sony said A6000’s 24.3MP sensor is a newly designed sensor. On-chip design is applied on this sensor as that of A7 and A7r, which gives about 20% increase in sensitivity over NEX-7’s sensor.

Well, I am not surprised to hear they want to focus on the higher end market. It’s where you make the money in these days! Let’s hope we wills ee all these new stuff very soon :)

(SR3) Surprising rumor: First hints about a Sony medium format camera?

Two different anonymous sources got hints about a quite surprising new Sony camera. They have been told Sony will launch their own Sony branded medium format camera within the next 5-6 months. It will use the same 50MP 44x33mm sensor used by the $27,500 Hasselblad H5D-50c (here at BHphoto).

Both sources stressed to say that the camera will not compete against the Hasselblad, Pentax 645DII and Phase one using the same Sony sensor. The camera is “completely different“! And….good news…it’s cheaper than them :)
Don’t know if this could be a sot of medium format RX camera with fixed lens or a new interchangeable lens mount system. This part is pure SAR admin’s curiosity and not a rumor. But I want to know if…:

Are you interested in any of the three patented options? I would get the...

Note for the “medium format camera” sources:
Please be patient if I don’t post all what they send me. I am using the info they share to double if not triple check the quality of the information with trusted sources. But I would be happy if they can keep sending me more details and if they want they can create a fake gmail account to contact me directly and anonymously at sonyalpharumors@gmail.com. Thanks!

More about the new Sony sensor:
Sensor Type:  50 Megapixels CMOS (8272 x 6200, 5.3 × 5.3 μm)
Sensor Dimensions:  32.9 x 43.8mm (sensor is physically 70% larger than a Full Frame sensor)
Image Size:  RAW 3FR capture 65MB on average. TIFF 8 bit: 154MB (on the Hasselblad H5D-50c).

The SR5 weekend rumors roundup: A3500 leaked, new FE lenses to come soon, and A77II and surprises too.

There is going to be plenty of new Sony stiff coming soon. For A and E-mount lovers! In case you missed it this weekend we had some new rumors and leaks:

1) Sony Australia (Click here) already lists the new A3500 camera and new 18-50mm f/4.0-5.6 lens. I don’t know when Sony will announce them officially but I guess it will be very soon.

2) Mark Weir from Sony confirmed that new Full Frame E-mount lenses are going to be announced soon. And yes, Sony is working on very fast aperture lenses too. He also said new power zooms are in the work. The probably most intriguing news is that Sony will soon announce camera(s?) that have been never made before!

3) The A77II is coming for sure in very early May. And I am looking forward to post the first specs soon!

You have to stay tuned on SAR. If the rumors I am receiving in these days are correct there will be room for quite some surprises too!
