(SR5) A first look at the A77 EVF!

Dear readers. What you can see here on top is the very first picture of the Sony A77 EVF! You can see the 19 AF points (11 of them are cross type). You can also see the 1080p60 logo. Hope to get more sceenshot like this as soon as I can.

I also ask my sources if they can tell me more about:
1) Image quality (Low and High ISO)
2) Is there it 14 bit RAW?

Thanks!

(SR4) An NEX-7 hands-on report and NEX-5N info

There are two rumors coming from Asia and from sources I know well.

1) Hong Kong Sonysdf (Click here to read the english translation).

According to the source the Zeiss 24mm f/1.8 has a nice Bokeh but corner sharpness wide open is not on very top high level. The NEX-7 feels larger than the [shoplink 5502]Leica M9[/shoplink]! It is also rather heavy, whilst it feels extremely solid in hands and is well built. It has direct and professional controls;

UPDATE: I got this info from one of my sources in Hong Kong but I now saw it has been posted at RiceHigh a couple of hours before I posted it (the post was scheduled while I was working). So here is the link to Ricehigh.

2) Thailand Fotorelax (Click here to read the google english translation).

The NEX-5N has a “Capacitive Touch Screen“.

Sony A77
Body only will be priced at $1000
Body + 16-50mm f/2.8 SSM Kit will be priced between $1600 and $1800.

NEX-7
Body only will be priced between $1000 and $1100.

NEX lenses
Zeiss 24mm f/1.8 will be priced between $900 and $1000.

Sony 55-210mm OSS Zeiss 24mm f/1.8 will be priced between $250 and $300.

I asked the source why there is a such huge price range for the A77+kit lens but I still didn’t get an answer yet.

(SR5) Sony lobbying for the next FF cameras (to be released in 2012)

I am getting tons of enthusiastic emails from dealers and photographs that claim to have seen and tested the A77 and NEX-7. And some of them also told me that Sony is already “lobbying” for the next fullframe cameras. Sony wants the dealer to push the Sony products also because their upcoming fullframe cameras will be even more amazing than the A77. I have been told that Sony is currently talking with all the major dealers to redefine the marketing strategy. I will give you some concrete details about the strategy as soon as I can. The only good news that I can give you now is that there will be more new fullframe cameras than I thought. I now heard about three different fullframe camera coming in 2012!

There has been no [shoplink 3032]Sony A900[/shoplink] price drop yet because Sony plans to release the next FF cameras in 6-9 months only. It would be to early to clear the stocks now. The [shoplink 3028]Sony A850[/shoplink] has been discontinued.

(SR5) Exact Sony A77/NEX-7 availability report

I just got the very exact availability roadmap of the next four cameras. As I already told you the new cameras will be available in Japan starting from September 16th. But the rest of the world will have to wait quite a bit :(

The NEX-5N will be available in Europe and US around the 5th-10th of September.
The NEX-7 will be available in Europe and US around the 7th-10th of November.
The A77 and the A65 will be available in Europe and US around the 17th-20th of October.
I have been told that those dates are subject to change (+/- 1 week)

(SR1) UPDATE: Almost certainly fake A77 picture :(

Click on picture to enlarge the image!

A chinese forum user posted the picture on top claiming that it was taken with the Sony A77! Of course there is nothing that can confirm is this is true or not. The EXIF says it has been take with the A77 at ISO 400, f/6.3, 1/320 and with the focal length at 210mm. Exif data can easily be faked and the image itself looks like a photoshop collage…take that “rumor” with a grain of salt (it’s almost certainly fake!).

Some of our sources may have a real A77 picture to share? :)

(SR4) Small but important Sony A77 Europe/US difference in video recording?

Two trusted sources noticed that on “paper” there is a small difference between the A77 US and European versions. Apparently the A77 can record FullHD videos at 1080p60 and 1080p24. The European version can record in 1080p50 and 1080p25 but not 1080p24!
I hope this is a mistake only, it really doesn’t make sense to not offer the 24p version in Europe!

UPDATE: I just got this from a third trusted source: “US version is 24,30,60p, European 25 and 50p. There is no difference between 24 and 25p visually. You can play 25p at a speed of 24p and vice versa. Problem is sound, but video editors have no problem in converting the sound speed digitally.

Some other bits of info: I really got tons of rumors from testers that said the AF speed is amazing and very accurate. This is just a subjective “judgment” but I never so many sources be happy with a pre-production camera!
