NEX-5N spotted in China?

A chinese Xitek forum user spotted what he says is the new Sony NEX-5N while Sony was shooting a new commercial. Nothing really spectacular here. Can’t wait to find any A77 and NEX-7 backstage pictures! Watch out for leaks, and make me a call when you find them! Thanks :)

(SR5) A77 has an “electronic first shutter curtain”!

According to bullet proof sources the A77 will have a very short release time lag thanks to a sort of “electronic first shutter curtain“. Michael Covington’s website explains what it is. The electornic first shutter curtain begins the exposure electronically with zero vibration: “In fact, as I understand it, the “electronic first shutter curtain” is a virtual moving edge just like the real shutter curtain, so you can use it even with short exposures. Columns of the sensor are turned on one by one just as if the real curtain were exposing them. Because a CMOS sensor can’t turn off as quickly as it turns on, the real shutter curtain is used to end the exposure.”

A77 with fastest locking-on GPS built in to any camera? (Photoclubalpha)

David Kilpatrick wrote an interesting article at Photoclubalpha (Click here) about the future GPS future from the A77: “It will be the fastest locking-on GPS built in to any camera, and it will be the first to record ALL the data you need. That will include not only the latitude and longitude and height above sea level, but also the compass direction the camera is aiming in and the inclination of the camera. Combined with very accurate focal length, focus distance and AF locus data, this will make it possible to use the Alpha 77 for photogrammetry (measurement, mapping, object size identification).” Read the full article at Photoclubalpha (Click here).

David made a mix between rumors and speculations and I cannot confirm or deny the features he mentioned inside his article. If some of my sources knows more about the GPS specs drop me a text ;)

P.S.: Greetings to David K.!

(SR5) NEX-7 and A77 will be available in Japan on September 16 (announcement on August 24 confirmed).

Our Japanese friends over at Digitcaminfo (Click here) said the Nex-7 and A77 will start to ship in Japan on September 16. It will ship in the rest of the world by early October (A77) and late October (NEX-7).

In the meanwhile our sources confirmed the announcement will take place on August 24 in Tokyo (Should be at around 6-7am London time). As you know you can follow the announcement on this website as we will cover you live with all first news, reviews, image samples and so on. On the same day also Nikon will announce their new stuff. My guess is the new FF cameras will be based on the “old” Sony 24 Megapixels sensor as I have heard the new Sony sensor (and camera) will be ready in early 2012 only. And Nikon will also announce a mirrorless system.

So don’t miss to be here on SAR on August 24 (6-7 am London time). Keep following us on Facebook, Twitter and follow our RSS-feed! And be sure to be here at SAR on August 24th!
