Official Tamron teaser for the launch of four new Sony FE lenses!

And here it is the official Tamron teaser for the launch of FOUR new Sony FE lenses!

It’s pretty clear from the image that we should get a new zoom and three primes. The zoom looks to be something like a  70-200mm f/2.8 lens. I wonder how fast the primes will be…

Still from what  I heard it will  still take some time to see those four lenses announced. They will be displayed at the PhotoPlus Show in October and NOT before that!

Here are the six new next Sony Full Frame sensors. One of them has Quad Bayer Structure!

Sony has registered six new Full Frame sensors. Below you can find the full spec sheets. What’s particular is that the sensor named IMX521 uses the Quad Bayer Structure. Sony writes:

HDR function is available by dividing exposure time in the 4 same color pixels into long exposure pixels and short exposure pixels. or dividing conversion gain in the 4 same color pixels into LCG pixels and HCG pixels.
Quad Bayer RAW function makes it possible to readout 4 same color pixels without addition.
When normal operation. 4 same color pixels are added and made 1 pixel, and output as bayer pixel array. In addition, a group of divided 4 same color pixels is defined as 1 pixel unit in this product specification.

Here are the short sensor specs:
IMX311: 48,9MP (45° deg. square pix array)
IMX313: 48,9MP (16bit A/D, stacked 3:2, 30p at 16:9 FULL 8k readout. 60p at 6k with crop.)
IMX409: 55MP
IMX410: 24.6MP (24mpix, 19fps for photography. 6k 40fps, 4k crop 100fps.)
IMX521: 15MP with Quad Array
IMX554: 30MP

(SR5) Sony will release FOUR new camera models between July 17 and September!

As I have told you before Sony will have a major product announcement day on July 17. And while we are not sure what they will announce we know that Sony has registered a total of FOUR new camera models!

Today they registered the fourth new model with the code “WW642826”. It usually takes between 1 day up to 2 months between a camera registration and the official announcement. So while it’s unlikely that all those four models will be announced on July 17 for sure we will all get them til September. Here is the full list via Nokishita:

There are some unexpected news we learn from this list:

1) I have to say I don’t recall ever having seen so many registered (and yet not announced) new models. For sure something BIG must be behind this…
2) Pure speculation: Sony patented a Drone (see here). There might be something like that too?

Stay tuned on SAR to follow the Sony announcement live on July 17 at 3pm London time!

Yasuyuki Nagata at Dpreview: New 600mm lens is designed to be used on faster cameras than the Sony A9!

Dpreview interviewed Yasuyuki Nagata from Sony. Here are a couple of interesting tidbits:

  • Sony 400mm f/2.8 sales were more than two times higher than estimated
  • 70% of the 400mm GM owners are professionals
  • Unlike the 400mm GM the new 600mm GM is targeted at high-end amateurs (Photographers that shoot birds, wildlife, aircraft). 70-80% of them shoot wildlife
  • The new 200-600mm is G because there are some compromises, for example in the materials, or the body. We didn’t use magnesium-alloy, or the [newer XD linear autofocus] actuator.
  • The 600mm GM to be compatible with cameras that are faster than the A9
  • What kind of camera do A9 owners want as next? Nagata says: “They always request more speed, less weight, greater usability
  • Sony plans new lenses on both on the telephoto side and the wide-angle side

Dpreviews clear take away from this is that the A9II release is not far away:

The a9 is a seriously powerful camera, capable of communicating with compatible lenses at a rate of sixty times per second, but at some point it will be replaced by something even more powerful, with a higher sensor resolution, and capable of even greater performance. A lens like the G Master 600mm F4, with its twin high-speed ‘extreme dynamic (XD)’ linear focus motors, has to be designed with this kind of development in mind.

I told you folks, the A9II is close…and if the rumors we get are right it will be announced in late summer/early autumn!

Sony Russia manager says not all technologies are yet ready for the A7sIII and expect an A6500 successor!

The Russian website Photorar interviewed the Sony Russia manager. He shared two info about the future cameras:

Sony A7sII:

In order for this camera to become as popular and breakthrough as the A7S and A7SII, serious fundamental improvements must be added to it. My personal opinion is that not all technologies are ready for this. What can be improved in comparison with A7SII?

Sony A6xxx or A7xxx::

there will be a further development of the A6500 line.

Sounds like Sony’s next three cameras will be the A6700 or A7000, followed by the A9II and than the A7sIII!
